Question about bowl eligibility

I think they were saying last night that since UT Martin isn't an FBS team it wouldn't count toward bowl eligibility. Hopefully not true though.
You can count 1 I-AA win per season towards the 6 you need to go to a bowl. UT-Martin is our only I-AA game this year so it will count. Now if we were to add UT-Martin to next year's schedule as the 12th game, then we'd have 2 I-AA games and could only count 1 towards the 6.
But no more. Most schools only play 1 or none FCS schools a year for that reason. The payouts for FCS schools are much cheaper than a smaller FBS school , say from the MAC or Sun Belt. If you wanted a buy game with Florida Atlantic from the Sun Belt you are going to pay them 800k-1million for a one time visit. Payouts to play FCS schools are around 350k ( I think that is what we payed Jackson State and Alcorn ) simply because FCS visits are not as high in demand because most schools only want to schedule maybe 1 a year .
I remember Ole Miss played 2 FCS schools in 2008 so they had to win 7 to get bowl eligible ( they won 8 and went to back to back Cotton Bowls - first time in 50 years)

and that "text question of the day" crap, where they had text-in votes asking people if they thought we would get the "6 FCS wins necessary to become bowl eligible," saying that UT-Martin was not an FCS school. Apparently neither the announcers nor whoever is responsible for creating that question knows how the process works.
There's also another rule about that. It's either you can't count non FCS wins towards your bowl eligibility in back to back years, or you can only count 2 wins in a 3 year span. It's been so long since it was talked about that I can't remember which it is.
