In talking about Mississippi State’s attendance this season, Cohen more
than hinted about some changes coming to the ballpark to entice fans to
attend. “There are some internal things about the nature of our stadium
and the nature of our seatholders geographically and otherwise. I think
we can meet our fans halfway and do some really out of the box,
inventive things to help that matter.”
Anyone have any clue?

it appears they're looking at a way to free up the grandstand to be used when "geographically challenged seatholders" don't show up. Smells like they're cooking up some kind of ticket exchange type deal.

At some point we're going to go full digital on tickets and that will hopefully facilitate a way for people to free up their seats when not in use.

Personally I think the University would be wise to issue credit to season ticket holders in some way if they are willing to allow unused game tickets to go back on sale for individual games. Maybe give Bulldog Club priority credit. Maybe charge less of an annual seat renewal fee if you free up tickets for resale. Lots of ways to be inventive or out of the box.

I've always been more than happy to pay extra for a CB ticket, but haven't always be able to get one. It's very frustrating when the grandstands are maybe 1/4 full, and I cant sit in there. I was fortunate this year to have access to a season ticket holder's extras, but I'm sure there are still others in the same boat.

It seems the biggest hurdle is the lifetime contracts. I'm not sure of the particulars of that, but I do like the idea of having them where they could be bought and printed at home. I'm just not sure how you would get people to trade in their official printed tickets. I think that's the problem now. A lot of people just don't care enough to try to resell them of even give them away, much less go through the trouble of resubmitting them.

I say that the school shouldn't issue any actual tickets. There should be a web page where season ticket holders can check outtickets and print them one week at a time or release them to to be resold to others for some sort of points.

The BC would have to go to a system where tenths or hundredths of points were awarded. Like... if you put your tickets back in the system 24 hours prior to game time you're awarded a percentage of a point to your BC level.

Example: Purchasing a football season ticket gets you 1 BC point. If you put a game ticket back in the system, you're awarded 1/6 of a point (since there are 6 home games).

There has to be a reward for people putting their tickets back in the system or people will never use it.

There are a lot of fans now that give tickets to charities, individuals, etc. Some people return them to the school for use in promotions.

If there was an easy, fast way to ensure that if you're not going to be there someone can purchase your seat from the school so the school sees a benefit, I think a majority would try to do so.

You'll also see a more people sign up for season tickets.

What's the biggest factor keeping people away from games anyway?

I'm going from memory here but I seem to remember that LSU averaged over 10,000 people per home game this year. Do they count attendance differently from us? Are they counting tickets sold or actual attendance?

How much of a difference would it have made if we had had a winning program all year that was exciting to watch? I know they got hot in the regionals but regionals do not a season make. We got off to a pretty shaky start this year if I remember correctly. What did we win - 3 SEC series out of 9? We had a losing SEC record (14-16). If we can ever get good enough to be in the top 3rd of the SEC, then I think more people will come.

BTW, I'm not part of the problem. We missed only 2 or 3 home games this year due to conflicts and we drive 45 miles, one way, to get there. We buy season tickets every year.

I think if we had a product on the field that was fun to watch, the attendance problems would solve themselves. I don't mean we would be packed for every game but it would be a lot better than it has been lately.

That we count paid attendance, and certain other schools are counting something else. We had somewhere in the neighborhood of 5,600 season tickets, and reported an average attendance of about 6,100. UM on the other hand, had slightly fewer season ticket sales, but reported attendance in excess of 8,100. There were also funny things they reportedlike early season Fridaygames pulling extremely large crowds.
LSU usually sells out of season tickets, and their stadium does officially hold over 10k, so theirs is a bit more believalbe.

It could be something as simple as you buy a general admission ticket, you sit where you want. If you are sitting in someone's seat that is a season ticket holder, and they have a ticket assigned with that seat, you move to another seat in the grandstand. On a bad day, someone might have to move twice at the most.

I could definately see them awarding BC points to the season ticket holders that show up. That way, they're not penalizing the season ticket holders that do show up and it encourages them to show up.

You might see completely open seating for midweek games. Because people that are geographically at a disadvantage are not likely to show up to those games. But we'll see. I'm glad that they are addressing it.

is what it comes down to. Although, they should draw better than us. They have a winning program/tradition and they are in a much larger city. They should easily get 5,000 during midweek.

I don't think that there's any doubt that having three straight losing seasons hurt our attendance. Now that we've had a good season, I think you will see attendance go up. As far as the product- we need to do more and better stuff between innings. Not everyone is a hard core baseball fan, and you have to do things to make the experience fun for most of the crowd. Here's a hint- doing the chicken dance ain't it.

As well as non-SEC weekend games (early season in particular). The only problem is that you still get some people that gripe about open seating for those weekend games, anyway. We were asked to move out of a couple's seat for a game (while there were 5,000 open seats around them) and they made a big deal about it. I imagine it's people like that who are the reason they make such a big deal about the grandstand seating being closed.

Hell, SBW Saturday game, the bleachers were packed to the brim, but you look at the grandstand and it isn't halfway full. That really pisses me off. I think they are working on a plan that will work for everyone.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's allowed as a matter of convenience, but I certainly haven't run across anything official.

In years past, it was every game (including midweek games... which is stupid... because the 20 people that come have to sit in the bleachers).

They did it unofficially for convenience, and quite honestly, that's perfectly fine with me. Does mean some folks might get asked to move, but them's the breaks.

but when people are dicks about it and make it into something it isn't, that really pisses me off.

the season ticket holders that get pissy about having to move. Which is pretty silly because 99% of the people will move without an issue. And they have to wait all of 10 seconds for you to move, or less.

But, maybe the school sending a letter out to all of the season ticket holders telling them what is going on will help out with that.
