Question about ESPN Gameplan

I'm currently getting my TV via DirecTV in Starkville and I'm thinking of getting Gameplan for the season. I should be able to see the games without Gameplan but I don't think I'll get them all in HD. Are all the games broadcast from DirecTV in HD on the Gameplan channels?

What I hate each season is when my local station picks up a game. When this happens, I lose the HD feed and the game looks crappy on the big screen. Looking at the schedule right now, there is a chance that the Memphis and Auburn game could be picked up by WCBI.

So, if a game is picked up by the local network, will the game also be broadcast on a Gameplan channel or will it be blacked out?

Trying to decide if it's worth getting the plan. The main goal is to get to see/record all of the games in HD if possible.

NONE of the Gameplan games have been in HD and if your local picks it up it's blacked out on the Gameplan anyway. What you need to do is get an over the air HD antenna. The indoor ones are pretty cheap and they work ok. I live futher from WCBI's tower than you do I think and I can ususlly get their signal. Be sure and get one that has a signal boost. I think mine was about $60. Obviously it only works if your TV has a built in digatl tuner, which most do now. Out of all the localsthe only ones I can NEVER getare WTVA and ETV. Their signal is VHF and the others are UHF.

If you want to go the extra step, get one of the small outdoor HD antennae (with booster). They work a little better.<div>

Are you saying the local channels aren't already broadcast by DirecTV in HD? I did not know that. Poor golden triangle.

You can put an outdoor antenna in the attic and it works equally well. Make sure you get the right one for the signal you are wanted to pull in.

This will tell you where the towers are and what kind of antenna you need. If that's the way you want to go.

How much better? I do occasionally have trouble, esp on clear days.

I live in Tupelo and have Directv. I have a roof top antenna connected to my Directv box. You can get a AM-21 box from Directv that you connect to your DVR via usb cable. With the AM-21 hooked to your DVR all the OTA channels show up in the DVR guide and you can record them just like any of the Directv channels. You get all the sub channels so it comes in handy like the last SEC basketball tournament when WCBI airs the games on channel 4-2.

The AM-21 costs $50 but you may be able to talk Directv into giving you one for free since local HD is not available in N. MS.

I've looked at every option to get HD to my football TV when HD is not offered by DirecTV. However, I have yet to find an economical or low labor intensive way to do it.

The location of my house in a low valley with tall pine trees all around topped off with my metal roof makes an indoor antenna useless. To get a decent signal, engineers from the TV stations have said that I need to get an antenna way up high, above the roof line and tree line. So, that means setting a tall pole to mount the antenna. Then, getting the antenna wire from outside and to where the TV is would be a nightmare.

I've been tempted to install one from time to time but hate to spend that much time and effort for one or two games a year. Plus, with my luck, as soon as I do install, DirecTV will add our area to their HD market. Right now, the Jackson area is the only area that has HD Locals from DirecTV. However, I'm encouraged to see Hatteisburg and the Greenville/Greenwood area on their list to get it this year. Hopefully, we will be next.

It's worth it to add an antenna. It's more than one or two games a year. HD is a must for NFL, NCAA Basketball, NASCAR, Maters golf etc. if your watching on a big screen HD TV. I have a 52" tv and the network low def programming looks like crap. It's also good when the weather gets bad you don't have rain fade with the antenna.
