Question about the pylon.

My understanding ever since I've been watching football is that if a runner reaches into the endzone and the football touches the pylon, then that would be considered a touch down.

But when Cam intercepted the ball and kicked over the pylon, that was treated as if it was a touchback. Why is that?

Because it's still Out of Bounds.

The Ball scores points, not the player. The goal line extends forever, so long as the runner is inbounds. There are still boundaries in the endzone.

That still just seems weird to me. If it's out of bounds, then it's out of bounds. If the ball touches it, it should be out of bounds I think.
