Question about Todd Gurley suspension.

It's not from what I can tell and I think he will sit out one game which is one game too many. It's stupid that these guys can't take advantage of their popularity to make a little money.
Well I think they did change the rules to allow players to profit off their liklieness but it doesn't go into effect until after next season or something like that.

But rich alumnus could pay $50K for an autograph. It's a slippery slope if the NCAA wants to keep it as a amateur sport - which is really the most ridiculous thing. Just let college football be what it is - a multi-million dollar business.
I'm pretty sure Johnny never admitted to taking money for the autographs, and the NCAA/aTm couldn't/wouldn't prove that he did. From what I hear, Gurley has admitted to taking $.
I get the part about a kid being able to cash in on his signature. But once its allowed, it will become a recruiting tool. As in, you come to Alabama, you'll get more for your autograph. As if they need any more of an advantage.
So it's OK for the rich white kid, but not for the poor black one. Not saying that's my personal opinion, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some people bring this point up. BTW, the NCAA doesn't need proof of anything to suspend a player. They do what they want to all the time.

And the NCAA has not suspended Gurley, Georgia has. But your point is well taken, the NCAA is a dictator-style organization that does what they want, when they want. No level of consistency.
Its unfortunate, but that was their reasoning. That's why there was no wording saying that there was a violation, just the NCAA and aTm have reached a deal to suspend Manziel for a half.
You didn't ask me, but my opinion is that any player that wants to complain about the current circumstances is welcome to go play for another organization. The thing is, though, they won't because simply getting to be a college football player is a dream gig and the NCAA provides a platform to the NFL like no other. If that's not good enough for someone, they're welcome to head to the CFL at any time

Exactly. They are welcome to hire the coaches and train at home. Saban only costs $10 Mil/year. If you divide Alabama's coaches salaries by number of players, each player is making well more than $100k/year in coaching time. Not including that overlooked benefit they call a degree.
