8Dog sent me this question, and it's something I have never thought about. So you all answer it:

When is the last time we won a regular season non conference game that was worth talking about? Now compare that to all the recent non conf games we've lost that are embarrassing.

we won every non-conference game we played because we only had 2 losses on the year and they were both in the conference (KY and Bama). Surely, somebody we played that year out of the conference was halfway decent.

Without looking at past schedules, the last games I consider good non-conference wins are Xavier in 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 and Oklahoma in 2002-2003. We blew our chances against Syracuse and Arizona in 2004-2005.

Ricky has beaten Oklahoma and Arizona. I'll give him the 3 Xavier wins, but they arent exactly a huge name. This is his 11th year and he has astonishingly few big non-conference basketball wins.

getting 9-10 wins a year off of playing South Alabama, McNeese, and Jacksonville St and then winning 8 conference games gets you 18 wins. That doesnt make you a great coach. And there are a helluva lot of coaches out there that can do better than that.

Perhaps Xavier isnt a big name to those who dont follow college basketball closely.

And the Road Warriors built off that success to then flame out in both the SEC and NCAA tourneys. What's your point?

2008 SEC champs - Tennessee - Sweet 16
2007 SEC champs - Florida - National Title
2006 SEC champs - LSU - Final 4
2005 SEC champs - Kentucky - Elite Eight
2004 SEC champs - MSU - 2nd round
2003 SEC champs - Kentucky - Elite Eight
2002 SEC champs - Alabama - 2nd round
2001 SEC champs - Florida/Kentucky - 2nd round/Sweet 16

I don't feel like going back farther. However, this shows that only MSU and Bama won outright titles in this decade and failed to go farther than the 2nd round. Let me reiterate that for you. Our best team, record wise, EVER is only one of 2 teams in the current decade to flame out earlier than the Sweet 16. And let's not forget, Alabama made it to the Elite 8 the very same year that your precious Road Warriors went undefeated on the road in the SEC!

My point was, Croom went 8-5 LAST YEAR in football, yet his team still performed badly enough the very next year to get his *** fired, so, just because Stansbury went undefeated on the road -- what, 3 years ago now? -- does not give him a free coaching pass for life, even at EmState.

I was in a hurry and didn't realize how my original post read.
