You said in another thread that you were nearly certain Wilson won't be fired. I don't know if your sources are worth a damn or not but is there at least a possibility that Wilson could be reassigne to being a position coach and us still hire a new DC?

The thought of playing OK State with Wilson coaching the defense scares the crap out of me.

I don't have any sources, but I can't imagine us demoting him and keeping him on the team.

The best scenario I can think of is hiring a position coach that can help him scheme and make ingame adjustments. The problem is somebody that can do that is somebody that can be a defensive coordinator. I think the only way that happens is if maybe we find an older, ex-DC that doesn't have the instensity to take on the responsibilities of DC anywhere, but wants to keep coaching and is willing to be a position coach. I'm assuming we'd have to come off our checkbooks and pay more than the average position coach salary to get somebody good enough to help. Also, that assumes Wilson doesn't have an ego that would prevent him from taking his cues from a position coach. He's an inexperienced coach, so you'd think it wouldn't be too much of a hit to his ego to accept some help, but I could definitely see plenty of ways for it to go wrong.

Coach Wilson is going to remain as DC for at least another season from what I'm hearing. That's not to say Mullen won't make him change his philosophy a little or something like that- but Wilson aint going anywhere.

I think we will lose/release at least 2 coaches though. Should be a few changes coming.

The only problem with that idea.....

Is that we already have someone on staff who can do that/should be doing that. His name if Geoff Collins. He's been a successful DC at every stop and has that aggressive mentality in the mold of JLD, EJ, Manny, etc. He was the guy I thought should've been named DC 2 seasons ago instead of promoting Wilson.

You can't make a guy who thinks soft, ****** Big 12 D is good change his philosophy to physical, aggressive SEC D. The 2 are polar opposite mindsets and completely incompatible. If Mullen wants a change in philosophy, he needs to man up and fire Wilson. I'll be honest, if Wilson is still DC next season, I'm gonna find it real hard to pony up for season tickets aGAIN. And I highly doubt I'll be alone.

ZERO possibility, either Wilson will stay on as DC or he will move along to another school. No up and coming assistant coach is going to take a demotion on a coaching staff, talk about causing problems within the harmony of a staff that would certainly do it.

I can see us keeping Wilson as DC. I won't be pissed if he comes back, but I'm fine if he doesn't.

If he does return, one of two things will happen.

1. He'll get motivated by being on the hot seat & work his butt off over the next 12 months. He comes up with a new scheme, and we look like a legit SEC defense next year.

2. He takes the Croom / Woody route, stubbornly refusing to change anything, and we get completely embarrassed by Ok St, Troy, Tx A&M, UM.

The risk for Mullen is that if #2 happens, we'll likely miss a bowl and he'll be on the hot seat. We'll be opening our expanded stadium in 2014 with about 40,000 fans in attendance.
