if Florida wins tonight, will you all go purchase a Florida schedule poster and put a little red arrow next to the ole miss game?

and obviously my joke was a joke. I didn't realize you were inviting hard hitting discussion about the subject.

In that case let me ponder it for a while.

slap one of the "Ole Miss - 31 National Champions - 30" bumper stickers that were selling like hotcakes outside the Cotton Bowl, on their car...if it's not already on there. They finally found something to replace that "Deuce For Heisman" bumper sticker...

No. I have no 1977 Notre Dame schedule either. I was at the game, I know what happened. We got our asses beat by USM the next week and had a losing season.

on my head, but: I have never known another Rebel who has a copy of that schedule. I have seen it hanging in Abner's along with a million other things. I'm too lazy to look it up but I doubt any other team has ever beaten the defending national champs and the current national champs in the same year (assuming Florida wins). So yeah, I'm proud as hell of it.

Nutt should definitely brag about it though, especially since he'll probably be the only coach in history to claim beating back to back national champions (2007 LSU and 2008 Florida).

even though its really not as big of an accomplishment as its being painted considering that 5 teams beat the defending national champions.

As you should be.

We need some catchy term like 'Bacon Number' that describes how many teams you are away from the national title.

I personally think we should just to keep the theme in Ms going i.e. Ms State thinks that there offense is going to be like Florida's next year since they hired their OC. This is what they are selling to recruits and beating their chest about, even though we all know who really handles the play calling. So I think that we should definitely put a little star by that game since we did beat the NC's. That is a very good point that you brought up. Thanks for sharing.

I was under the impression that the offensive co-ordinator usually is the one calling the offensive plays. How the f#$% do you know anyway? I do find it comical how the Florida win is all that matters and not the losses to Vandy, South Carolina, Wake, and Bama. To Ole Miss fans those losses were flukes but the win over Florida was for real.

Sure we lost to vandy, sc, wake, and bama. We know this. We lost some games early this year when we were adjusting to a new coaching staff and learning how to win. We were also without P Jerry AND Hardy for some of those games. Having those two guys missing from our defensive line is a lot to make up for. Then we went down to Florida and beat the Gators and our season turned around. We finished our season with six straight wins and we are playing almost as well as any team in the country. This team is totally different than the Ole Miss team from the beginning of the season.
