Are people so emotionally invested in recruiting due to their investment in a given institution's athletic program?

Good question, for me recruiting is like a never ending game. I will admit, that like most on here, I get emotionally invested when MSU plays a football game. I get nervous, I yell, and I may even throw something on occasion. However, no matter how bad or good that football game is, I know it will be over in 3 to 3 1/2 hours. On the contrary, recruiting just never 17ing ends. It is a 8 month soap opera that climaxes in the month of January and beginning of February.

When MSU runs a play in a game, I know the result of that play 4 seconds later. So no matter how invested I am, every 4 seconds I get an answer. Then if I still have questions, the coaches can comment on them after the game. Whereas in recruiting, the coaches aren't allowed to comment.

So recruiting is so bad because it last forever, the coaches cannot comment, and I get no confirmation of results, like I do in a game. For other sports, recruiting isn't as bad because 1) I may not care as much and 2) They have early signing periods in which I get more immediate confirmation of results.
