Question for the board regarding Stans

Hypothetical question here. There are two options you can choose from:
1. We make the tournament this year and lose in the first weekend. We proceed to sign Devonta Pollard. Moultrie goes pro but Sid stays. Stans keeps his job.
2. We miss the tournament this year and don't sign Pollard. Moultrie and Sid leave, but we keep our current recruiting class and the rest of the players on our team that aren't seniors. Stans is fired.

Which side do you choose? I think I'd take the first one, but it's getting closer and closer with each passing game and honestly, if we were able to still sign Pollard with a new coach, I'd probably take the 2nd side.

The primary problem is the leadership (or lack there of) of this team. Things will never change with Stansbury at the helm, regardless if we get Pollard or not.

Also, Sidney will never reach his full potential, so it's time for his *** to go b/c his lack of defense really hurts us.

Stans goes either way. I've not had much of an opinion either way, until now. Stans seems to simply ignore coaching basics...things like use of timeouts, substitution patterns, etc..and that doesnt even include the X's and O's aspect.

Stans supporters have long argued that replacing him is a risky move....and I agree. BUT, I'm ready to take that chance.

I've been one of those long time advocates of keeping him because I thought that the success that MSU has had with Stans could easily diminish with a new coach. However, I'm done with weighing the risks and we've been through the "let's keep him to maintain the recruiting class" scenarios too many times already with the same result. No matter how great one of his classes looks, one will transfer, one will quit or get kicked off the team, one will have personality "issues", and then there may be one that is mature enough to actually do what he needs to do for 3-4 years.

I still fully believe that the next coach may very well not reach the level of success that Stans has seen and that so many fans complain about, but I'm ready to roll the dice.

The reason I didn't list "Stans is gone either way" is because I don't think he gets fired unless we fail to make the tournament. I was trying to come up with the most likely scenario that would keep Stans around, and the most likely scenario if Stans were fired.

I never want to see Bury, Retardo, or any of the Bury family in the Hump ever again! I don't care how we finish. Even if we win the NCAA tournament, Bury has to go!

Sure a new coach and staff is an unknown, but I love MSU and love watching MSU play basketball. I am in this thing for the long haul and the sooner we get rid of Bury, the better!

It's like groundhog day. Every season is the same ole ****. I am tired of it. Our problem is leadership on this team. No one is coaching them up or showing them the way. He doesn't know the right way. We can't keep saying, one more year, or "let's keep this class together." Gotta grow a pair and take a chance. We know what keeping him here will produce. So no matter what, he's gotta go.

One of my friends INSISTS that if we get rid of Stans we will go at least 3 years without a postseason appearance. But to be honest, would you rather keep getting talented freshman and transfers and being ranked anywhere from #10 to #20 for most of the season only to tank and end up bounced before the 2nd round of the tourny for the next ~5 years (until Stans retires) OR endure 3 years with relatively mediocre expectations with the hope that the athletic department goes and finds the next Mullen/Cohen of MSU bball that will take us over the hump we can't get over now?

"Stans can recruit"... If you're a talented, semi-highly recruited player from the north Mississippi and surrounding area (i.e. Jarvis, Hood, maybe Steele)... unless it's UK, where are you going to go? UAB? Our facilities and reputation are enough for any competent recruiter to get the same exact players we're getting now.

"We win in basketball more than any other sport"... Probably because of the discrepancy in good teams in SEC basketball vs literally any other SEC sport. SEC golf, track, football, softball, baseball, and tennis are all considered among the best in the country. SEC basketball is looked down upon by every other major conference. If Arkansas or some other mediocre SEC program right now cared to put the money that we put into our basketball program I'm sure they could go 19-7 every year too.

Your friend may very well be right. Odds are good that the next coach won't be any better than what we're getting out of Stans now, and he could be worse. I'm starting to think it may be worth the risk though.

I suspect that Arkansas and several other SEC schools we're outperforming spend more on basketball than we do. I bet we're near the bottom in terms of basketball expenditures.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this board is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.</span>

My point was that it really doesn't matter what this team does the rest of the year. We have, what, 14 years of history with Bury, and we know what we are going to get in the future. At this point, how this team finishes this season should not determine if Bury stays or goes. If by some miracle the team finishes better than what we now expect, that should not give Bury a pass. We all know it would not be because he is such a great coach.

I am tired of watching the crap that Bury is producing.

"We were the underdog" at LSU..................are you 17ing kidding me?
