It is a foregone conclusion that majority of state fans are happy with athletic administration we have at State. Within the next 5 and 10 years, realistically, what would you like to see out of the three major sports within the SEC and nationally.

Football - just keep on what we are doing. 4 out of 5 years make a bowl game with 1 out of those 4 - make it a step up season with 9 wins or so.

Basketball - 60% clip for tourney appearances. 3 out of 5 seasons.

Baseball - Regional 4 out 5 years. CWS once every 5 years.

After that - anything else is gravy for me.

In football and baseball- but not basketball? You expect a New Year's Day bowl and a CWS- why not expect a Tourney run?

Football
-I think a 10 win seasonin the next 5 years wouldbe a pretty reasonable request. Bama and LSU are just so much better than everyone else that I think even in 5 years it is unrealistic to expect to be in Atlanta. Notto mention Arkansas is still very good, as well as Auburn.A couple of 7 to9 win seasons with10 win seasonand aCapital One bowl I think would be very solid, and if we keep recruiting like we are, very reasonable. We had to build from the bottom up in football, so with the power of the SEC, I see this as our most difficult sport at achieving long term success.

Basketball
-We need a Sweet 16, andI don't care who it's from. MS has talent that is capable of getting us there every year, and we can supplement from out of state if we need to. As most have said, in this sport a coach is measured on NCAA Tournament wins. As of now, Stansbury has never strung together 2 in a row. Not saying that he should be fired, but I'm saying that MSU has not garnered national recognition under him because we've never done well in the NCAA Tournament. We should be in the Top 5 in the SEC every 4 out of 5 years in my opinion.

Baseball
-I think we need to be in the College World Series at least once. Twice would be great, but we are still rebuilding and there are a lot of really good baseball teams out there. I think we are getting the talent in here to do it, I think Cohen is the guy for thisjob, and I think we should expect a programlike ours to reach theSuper Regionals and the College World Series on a regular basis( And by regular basis I mean Super Regionals 2 or 3 out of 5 yearsand CWS 1 out of 5 years.)I think we can sustain long term success at MSU in baseball, and the foundation we seem to be building here has me excited about the future of MSU baseball.

People will get tired of 6 win fb seasons but with 3 top 10 teams in the west I feel like it can be tolerated as long as a Nashville type trip ensues(it was ba). I agree with baseball. My only question with basketball is what is our record the last 10 years using DS's standards? Too lazy to look up

I would shoot for hosting regionals every other year. That gives you your best shot at a super. Anything past that pt is too random. Anything can happen at the super reg level. We should be in a regional every year.

I honestly don't know if that's reasonable or not praticularly with the new draft rules that look like they could put us further behind some schools.

so here's mine. Football #1 a win against LSU. I'm so sick of losing to those 17ers. I'll add to my expectations after #1 is accomplished.

2. Basketball #1. A new head coach. I'll add to my expectations after #1 is accomplished.

3. Baseball #1 Omaha. Cohen has been here long enough. He should have MSU in a Super every year and every other year he should be in Omaha. My expectations for baseball are very high. Sorry.

I'd like to see appearances in those and higher bowl games as well as more wins against Western foes. As far as basketball and baseball is concerned... basketball - for 17s sakes... I just want to see a sweet 16 finally. baseball - a few super regionals with a couple of cws strewn in there.

Football - 6+ wins every year. If the SEC goes to 9 game schedule I'd be willing to let a non-bowl season in every now and again but otherwise we should be scheduling such that we win 6 at least every year.

Basketball - make the tourny 4 out of 5 years at least and get to the damn Sweet 16 already. We have been consistent enough to make this happen.

Baseball - make the tourny 4 out of 5 years. With our support, history, etc... there is no excuse for not

All other sports - beat OM. Because really, most people don't care about the other sports except for that game/match

I agree with you especially basketball. Right now, Stansbury has done things for basketball where the administration cannot to put any pressure on him. Truth be told, he is not a good game day coach. Even if we make a sweet sixteen, I just can not trust the man when it comes to game day coaching. But at the same time, if we let him go, can the next guy recruit like he has done at Mississippi State? I say that's a risk we should take if he doesn't produce in the next three years.

Unlike football, we have the facilities at State to attract a talented coach. Till this day, I say the hiring of Mullen was excellent not because of the results he produced on the field but when we were looking for a coach, State didn't have nothing to offer the next coach in terms of facilities, history, etc. And that comes down to the administration we have. Somebody earlier put Stansbury in the perfect terms, he does not have the same motivation the rest of athletic administration does. Mullen and Cohen own him in terms of fan interaction.

1. Football: 7-win seasons at a minimum. In fact, I've heard rumors that 7 wins will be required for a bowl game and I think that's reasonable. A team should have a winning record to go to a bowl. And under Dan Mullen, 7 wins each years should be expected. In the next 5 years, I'd like to see, and expect to see, a couple of wins over Alabama (Croom managed it ... why not Mullen, who is a much better coach?) and at least one win over LSU. We should continue our domination over the Bears ... no reason not to with their unproven coach taking over. We may slip up and get beat a time or two, but in general we should be the dominant team. Over the next 5 years, I don't think a 10 or 11 win season is out of the question, given the fact that we'll all be excited about playing in our newly expanded stadium. And I think we'll continue to win the in-state recruiting battle. If we were in any other conference in the country other than the SEC West, we'd be doing much, much better record-wise ... but I certainly wouldn't want to be anywhere else.<div>
</div><div>2. Basketball: We have a pretty darn good team this year and should go a ways in the Tournament. Today's loss was, I think, a result of mental letdown because of the hard-fought victory over the Bears less than 2 days before. The players just didn't seem to have a lot of "get up and go" and that's understandable. And unfortunately, just about everything Georgia threw from outside the arc went in. Ours did too for a while, then grew cold. It's a fickle game.</div><div>
</div><div>3. Baseball: I don't really care that much about baseball, but I would like us to do well. Even I got interested in the Regionals last year and we came so close to going to Omaha. I'd like to see us keep that up.</div>

b/c I know it had to be tough in anticipation of this answer.

Your grandmother should be able to coach our football team to a 6 win season with the way our scheduling is set up currently. This season was equal to a NIT team to me. And like I have said before, I was happy with this season.

The reason I don't expect a step up season in basketball is because my goal for our program is consistent representation in the NCAA tourney. It's always been that. And it's not like a 9 win season like we had in 2010 for football was something extraordinarily done. We went 4-4 in the league. And if Stansbury had a record that was even close to Mullen's record this year in the SEC (2-6 = 4-12 in basketball), we would all be wanting Stansbury to be shown the door that season.

But we still went to a bowl game.

My point is, if we keep going 6-6 and slipping into the Liberty Bowl, BBVA bowl, and Music City - people will get tired of it. That's why I said quality SEC wins are more important that 'going to bowl games'.

The knock on our football program right now is that we can't beat anyone but UK and OM - not that we can't go to bowl games. It doesn't have to be LSU and Bama, but <span style="font-weight: bold;">we've got to start beating Auburn, Tennessee (next year), Texas AM, etc. </span>That's much more important than 6 wins a bowl game.

It's disappointing we didn't convert on a couple of chances we had to get a quality win. But I'm not going to get bent out of shape about it when it's the first time in Mullen's 3 seasons he didn't get a quality win and he still took us to a bowl anyway. Not saying you are, but there are definitely some on this board that are.</p>

Division so loaded. Granted I'll be expecting some upsets soon but to have played as tough as we have with the nation's best has me very satisfied after year 3. I know many count all losses the same but I don't and as long as I see our players fighting their heart's out to the end, I'll forgive Mullen for the occasional coaching blunder as he continues to grow into the job. If we continue to recruit like we did this year and the stars allign, I see a possible ATL trip in the next 5 yrs. Having 3 teams in our division playing at a national championship level every year can't go on indefinitely. Simply looking at our SEC West record only is short sighted at this juncture. Mullen has got the most out of his overall talent as well as any coach around.

Football- I think it's very reasonable to think we should bowl in 4 of our next 5 years. I would also like to see us beat Arkansas at least once, and LSU or Bama at least once. I also think we need to win at least 4 SEC games in one of the next two seasons.

Basketball- I think we better make the tourney this year. I'm expecting us to get Pollard too (bc if we're going to lose to UGA then he better shine on the recruiting side). We should make the tourney 3 of the next 5 years (I would say 4, but next year will be rough). And we need a sweet sixteen in the next 3 years.

Baseball- I say Regional in 5 of the next 5 years, super regional in 3 of those, and CWS in 1-2. I have great expectations inbaseball and I think Cohens expectations are even higher than mine.

(sometimes my iPad screws up the spacing in my posts, so sorry in advance)

Here's my hopes:
Football - Keep beating ole miss, watching them go batshit crazy is just too much fun to give up. Keep going to bowl games. In the next 5 years WIN the SECW and go to championship game and WIN it. not having won the SEC championship since 1941 is too damn long, Jackie proved we could get there, now lets get there and win it. I know, I know, bama and lsu are just too strong. 17 em. It would take some fortunate breaks and even some out right luck but what the hell.
Basketball - With all the damn talent the recruiter gets we should at least make a few decent runs into the NCAA tourney every 5 yrs. or so, say at least a sweet 16 or elite 8. Win the damn conference outright every now and then too.
Baseball - This is SUPPOSED to be what we're best at. Regional every friggin year. Host a supper regional every other year. Go to CWS on a regular basis. Win the CWS once in my friggin lifetime.
Probably too damn optimistic for some of you, except Dan Mullen. Maybe Cohen too.
<end of rant>
