It looked to me like Auburn played the best game they had played this entire year. Their seniors were jacked up, and it appeared that most shots were contested but still went in. I thought our offense made a high percentage of their shots for a road game. My question is two parts.
1) Could we have done something different defensively to stop the shots from falling?
2) Do think a Kentucky, Tennessee or Vanderbilt team would have lost this game?

(In a nutshell, did we just *** this game up or do you feel like it was just Auburn's night and nobody was going to stop them?)

Westayed in the zone too long, that has a problem for Stans all year. How do you beat a zone, you make 3 pointers, just ask Auburn. We should have playedman and/or a box and 1 on Waller. When teams are making 3 pointer against your zone, you get out of it quick.
I thinkUK and Vandy could have won the game, Tenn would have lost.

I do think your suggestion of a box and 1 (or a diamond and 1) would have been worth trying.

the last game ever in that coliseum, senior night and the freaking threes falling no matter where they were shot from.Hey that's Miss State luck. Kind of like football, teams don't get good until they schedule us. (WV, GT, Houston)

I circled this game a long time ago as one we would losebecause I knew this would be the last gamein Beard Eaves a while back. Auburn is a very similar type of team to us, and just like us, when they get hot they are tough to beat. They almost beat Kentucky on their home floor, andno matter how badthey are, a teamlike Auburn always has a chance to win at home if they can hit 3's. You get a large crowd that on any other particular night wouldn't have been there, then couple that with senior night, and a team that starts a ton of seniors playing in their last home game, and you get a recipe for an upset. Lots of things not related to the actual playing of the game that were against us going in, so I don't blame Stansbury nearly as much for this loss.

we wanted to protect them in the second half, so we played more zone. they obviously decided that when we were in man, they were going to come straight to swat, especially after he got his 3rd.

i agree, though, we could've mixed it up a little more. they were on fire, though, last night.

We play zone to keep the starters from wearing out by then end because of our shallow bench. And i always love for folks to bring up the box and one or the triangle and two. This isn't jr. high girls basketball. If those gimicky defenses worked teams would use them. Coaches can't put in some defense that youhaven'tpracticed all year and expect to stop another team from scoring. Hell, our team cannot perform an out of bounds play that Stans draws on his dry erase board at the end of a game.

And whose fault isthis? It comes back to coaching and having your team prepared to make changes in your defenses and offense during the course of a game. I have seen many a team in CBBuse the box andI this year.

We simply got outplayed. Others have said it already Auburn's last game in their soon to be gone arena. Auburn's Senior night. Their last game this year. Playing West division leader.

What I find amazing about the game - It'samazing how many teams have a guy who has his best game of the year when they play the dogs. Auburnkilled us in the paint, with some of the best tightest/passes I have seen to a man under the goal from out in three point land with a resulting shot skillfully placed over JV for a goal. Additionally Auburn shot the three well. They shot everythng well. They defended us as good as I have seen.

Sadly, we just got outplayed.

Maybe we will have Auburn's game this Saturday against Tennessee.

I haven't seen a box and one, outside of high school, in, well, I don't know if i have ever seen that in major college ball. But I'm sure South West Texas El Paso A & M runs it to perfection.

(I posted this in another thread but it should have been here.)

There are the posts on the board that say "Auburn
played their best game in X years blah blah blah." Not true. Waller did
what he has done four games in a row and many times over his two years
here. Knox made open layups and dunks. Nothing special about that. Reed
and Hargrove were average. They didn't do anything they haven't done a
hundred times before. The problem last night was that we made things
far, far too easy for them. We got abused in the zone by either the
shooters, mainly Waller, or on the backside, particularly the few
minutes Phil played down there, but he was by no means the only guilty
one. But Auburn's pre-conference and early conference struggles are a
thing of the past. Auburn played Kentucky to the wire this year, blew
out UGA, blew out LSU, and handled Arkansas and Bama pretty easily.
They have also gotten better all year long. Lebo's problem is it took
him so long to get them playing well that he might still lose his job.
Since starting 1-5 in the league, Auburn is 5-4 with two road overtime
losses (MSU and Ark), a UM road loss in which they had a good-sized
second half lead, and a close loss at Florida. If they beat Bama on
Saturday to finish 7-9, and if UM beats Arkansas, Auburn finishes third
in the West because they will win the tiebreaker with the Hogs. If the
season was 4-5 more games, I suspect they would catch us.

I
guess what I am trying to say is we lost to a team with a bad RPI who
is playing well. With all we had to play for, we could have and should
have won, but we made too many mistakes on the floor and from the
bench, and that was that.

It's not the band that i'm honoring with my name, it Ellie May's boyfriend from the Beverly Hillbilly's. And quit making me prove a negative with this box and one BS. No one uses the 17'n box and one. Admit it!
