Question on the future of Dan Mullen.................

After State gets its sixth win against UM they will, in all liklihood, go the to the Liberty Bowl and play Houston. Based on the performance of the two teams, Houston will be favored to win.

If Houston wins, what will the Bulldog Nation feel about the future of Mullen? How long will beating Ole Miss be enough to satisfy the fan base? It would seem that, at some point, Dan will be expected to show progress on his SEC record. What is the opinion of the board? Are you satisfied and if not, who would you want to replace Mullen?

...you have a bunch of carts before the horses:


1) MSU has to get a sixth win. Remember this is Miss. State we are talking about. Which means Murphy's Law is on the horizon.


2) Houston has to beat Tulsa to win their division.


3) If Houston beats Tulsa to win their division, then Houston has to beat USM in the CUSA championship game.


4) An undefeated, highly-ranked Houston team may get a better bowl than the Liberty.


5) MSU, if bowl eligible, may go to Music City Bowl.


Too many undetermined scenarios to be preparing to tar & feather Mullen over a loss to Houston.

I'm not so sure Houston would be favored by much if at all. Sorry if I don't swoon over CONFUSA teams but they've played some real bad teams this year. As far as I'm concerned as long as we're getting to Bowl Games Mullen is ok by me, we'll eventually get over the hump.

the champion of CUSA is contractually oblicated to host the Liberty Bowl. Has that changed?

What do you think they do when Boise gets selected for a BCS game? Every bowl with a #1 conference tie in has an exception clause for if said team is invited to a BCS game.

Are you seriously this dense?

Is MSU your number one team? I have a feeling it's not. It doesn't matter one way or another, but I think it is fair to let people know where your allegiance is.

Now to answer your question - My thoughts are that I am very happy with the progress of our team. We are beating the teams we are supposed to and losing only to ranked opponents. The biggest hurdle we are facing atm is that the division that we play in has 3 of the top 5 teams in the country. We played those teams very competitively which has been absent in the past.

We have a VERY good team and it will continue to get better as we continue to fill gaps and Dan Mullen continues to gain experience.

to a BCS bowl if they finish out undefeated and in the top 12 of the BCS. So i doubt we would play them.

I don't even care if he is a rebel. I am just curious if he is a State fan. I don't think he is based upon some of his prior posts.

We're in the third year following one of the worst stretches of MSU football. If you had asked us 3 years ago if we would be questioning whoever replaced Crooms if the new coach only managed to beat only Ole Miss in the SECW (but did so every year) and went to back to back bowl games (one of which was a NYD game), we would say we would be questioning whether or not we could keep the coach, not whether or not he was doing enough.

We started down this road with very little to work with. We all expected Mullen to need time to build the program. And we didn't know that the West would become such a forbidding place to play. My estimate at the beginning of this year was a 6 and 6 season and we are on pace to do that. There have been some mistakes and we have not gotten as lucky as we did last year, that's just football. I'm not sure I understand why there are some people out there that want to punish Mullen for having a better than expected season last year. Going into this year we knew we couldn't handle any issues on the offensive line, and we had issues. Nothing terribly unexpected has happened.

I think the one area we need to fix is recruiting, but even that we are starting to see that some of these guys Ole Miss snatched away are head cases. I'm not exactly missing CJ right now. We need to figure out how to recruit better but so far I'm pretty happy with the product on the field. We just need to keep progressing and building a program, not just grabbing at quick wins by bringing in talent that will ultimately be detrimental to the team. If we go to the Liberty Bowl, well ok. If we play Houston and they end up beating us, I can live with it. I'm happy with Mullen right now and as a realist I see no reason to turn on him at all.

Houston will only appear in the Liberty Bowl if they lose in the CUSA Championship Game to Southern Miss, who would then go to the Sugar Bowl.<div>
</div><div>Boise can't go to the Sugar because they're a non-AQ and won't win their conference championship due to their TCU loss. (Non-AQs have to win their conference in order to have an opportunity to get a BCS birth.)</div><div>

If Houston beats us in the liberty bowl we will riotous beyond imagination and Mullen will be on his way out the door. Beating Ole Miss means nothing to our fan base and I cannot see it sustaining him even if he could have another chance which he wont because we would fire him. This lack of progress, going from 1 bowl game in 8 years and beating UM 3 times in 7 years to beating them 3 times in a row for the first time since world war 2 is no real indication of progress. 2 bowl games in 3 years just not sufficient if you dont win both.

I am not satisfied. I would hire...Tommy West.
