Quick question before I select my seats

I'm thinking about going with the East side in order to get a little closer to midfield. Is the sun really that terrible to drive the demand and cost up on the West side like we've been seeing? I've been enjoying the shade in section 6/F for the last 5 years and not sure how bad I've been spoiled by that. Last time I sat on the East side was as a student during the croom years and we didn't get picked up by many evening tv slots in those days so can't remember what it was like to have the setting sun in my face for a game.

My choices seem to be to stay in sec. 6 near the goal line or to get between the 40's on the sunny side. There are seats available on the outer edges of 3&5 but I don't see the value in moving over a 1/2 section for over double the donation. Anyone who has sat on both sides care to chime in?

Also, for those interested. Here's some screen grabs of what's still available in the lower Q. I left out section 21 since that's faculty.

And since I'm sure someone will ask. Rank is 3300's, pick tomorrow.

It all depends on the time of year and what time we play the games. I sat on the East side last year and the first couple of games were in the day time and we had to leave at halftime because it was so hot. I was drenched with sweat and I dont sweat much. With the addition of the SEC network, we may start getting more night games so it really wont matter though.

It's pretty brutal, but I say that because of the heat. I don't mind having to wear sunglasses or shield my eyes. Having said that, most of the games from mid-October on aren't too bad from a temp standpoint, and half it's really only from about 4PM-6PM that the sun is an issue ONLY on that side of the stadium.

You'll be okay over there. Do you have any kids and wife? Might take them into consideration if you do.

It really comes down to personal preference. But the sun is a ***** on the East Side from August to late October.

This probably won't help you much, but FYI, I've gotten fried on both sides at one time or another. It all depends on whether our game is an early one or a late one in terms of which side is better regarding the sun.

From a fan standpoint, as you can probably guess, you'll be around more MSU fans in Sec 6 whereas a lot of the seats around Sec 20 end up getting sold to visitors. You may not care much about that, though.

Lastly, one thing that you may want to consider is that the awful rows on the west side are ~ 60 seats wide while the ones on the east side are ~ 30 seats. After a few whiskey drinks, I've just about peed in my pants in Sec 4 before because I didn't want to hike over 30 people to get to the restrooms. Now that I've got kids, it's even worse.

I'll echo this... It can be brutal. For me personally, not enough to turn down near midfield seats.

About as miserable as I've ever been was 2 years ago when texas A&M and Johnny football put on a show. It was unreal hot and I was on the east side. That was a miserable game.

The row width was a very big driving point in me picking the east side.

Give a serious look at 1st 2 rows of Sections 306-308.

Very easy access into and out of seats (since walking concourse is located between Rows 2 and 3). The seats are chairback and generally located between the 40's. The sun will be behind you in the late afternoon/early evening games. The cost is cheaper than Section 6 or Section 20 and the view is much better.

All good points from you and others.

As far as the midday games like a&m. Hot is hot, when it's hot at noon on the East, it's also hot at noon on the West. I'm more worried about the setting sun but may only have to deal with that 1 or 2 times a year depending on which games I make the drive up for.

I hadn't considered how being behind the visitor's bench and amongst visiting fans might take away from the atmosphere. Good point there.

The section width is also something that's been on my mind, less knees to hurdle is a big selling point.

I have been on the lower East side for a number of years now. The only time its really, really bad is a sunny afternoon game. But since CBS never picks an MSU home game to do a broadcast in the afternoon its really become a non issue. Now the SEC Network may end up giving a higher chance of the afternoon kickoff time coming back, I don't know. But for 11:00 and 6:00 and later kickoffs I've found it to be only a slight nuisance for maybe the early part of the first quarter of early season 6:00 kickoff games.

Do you have to look through a handrail in 306-308?

No you don't have to look through the handrail. The game view is great from these sections. That is where we have sat for the last 5 years and loved those seats. The only drawback was the walk up the ramps but that was pretty well resolved with the two new elevators last year and should be a non issue with 4-5 this year. Plus they are chairbacks and you can see and hear the jumbotron perfectly. I previously had seats on the east side and moved because of the sun FWIW.

And the thing that really sucks about this...

is that there's really no winning when it comes to the West side. If you're stuck in the middle, then like I mentioned, you can plan on climbing over a ton of people any time that you want to leave your seat. If you try to fix that by picking aisle seats, however, you'll be getting up about every minute and a half to let someone walk by you. It's a pain either way

If you are in Row 1, you do have to look through the handrail. If on Row 2, you can see over the handrail. The view is so much better that the handrail is not a big issue for me.
My family has tried nearly every section in DWS and my kids and wife refuse to sit anywhere else now. They really are great seats.

CBS no longer has exclusive rights to the 2:30 - 5:30 time slot. There will definitely be more afternoon games. For sure 1 on SECN and I'd bet at least 1 on an ESPN network every Saturday.
