4-0 is sweet. IMO we're a pretty mid team but that's progress & we're building a good foundation to build upon.
With that said, here are some quick thoughts:
1. Proud of how we came out in the 2nd half & took control of the game. That shows that we're well coached & have leadership in the locker room.
2. Loved how Shapen ran yesterday. 65 yards gained is tremendous. HE MUST DO THAT. We've proven we can hit deep balls, so teams must defend that first, which means they can't stack the box. Shapen has to be able to run. It's wide open if the other team only has 11 players on the field. This is the most exciting thing about Lebby IMO. He's forcing defenses to defend in a way that Mullen could never accomplish. We never established a deep ball game in 9 years of Mullen, 2 years of Moorhead, & the Leach era. This is the first time in my lifetime.
3. Along those lines, Lebby must play KT more in short yardage situations. He's unstoppable & a huge weapon for us. Additionally, we need to go deep in that situation with KT so the safeties are forced to sit back. I need to see KT taking 5-10 snaps vs TN for us to have a chance. He's way way way too good not too. Leak/Tebow style.
4. Ferrie looks like an NFL kicker.
5. The internal pressure NI was getting on delayed blitzes was a huge concern. We need more big explosive guys in the trenches.
6. Big fan of Gayten. Adds another dimension
7. Yesterday's crowd was an indication of poor season ticket sales. As the program builds again, the crowds for bad non-con games will improve because more people will already have tickets.
8 . Watching Mizzou & SC last night & we're not at their level right now in physicality & athleticism. Catching up to those teams is our next step. Fringe playoff contenders like Mizzou/SC/OM. That's where we've got to be but we aren't there yet from a roster standpoint in the trenches & on defense.
9. Can't wait for next weekend. I'm pessimistic about our chances because I don't know if we can compete in the trenches & stop the run. That said, our secret weapon is deep balls that can flip the game. Shapen was off with those yesterday but, if he's ever on with them, we're going to win that day. Maybe we're on next week & can light TN up.
Overall, very proud of where we're going right now. Need more athletes & explosive big guys to join the program to take the next step.
