I can't remember who it was or when it was (it might have been last season or the season before) but someone caught a pass and it was in their hands for literally less that one second. Anyway they reviewed it for like 10 hours and then ruled that he had posession for that split second IN THE ENDZONE, so therefore it was a touchdown.

I dont understand how things like this happen...how do a group of guys all watch the same video and decide that that is not a catch? He had control, got 2 feet down, everything.

How they all came to the conclusion that that was an incomplete pass is beyond me. Complete ********

That is the first time I've ever heard you have to hit the ground with possession to make a catch. That is was Golic said he was told in the replay booth at halftime. That is horseshit.

with everything but the ball in the air and out of bounds? As long as it crosses the plain right?

than the common sense rule when it comes to making a catch. You basically have to not only possess it with two feet down, but also keep possession after you hit the ground. If you bobble it when you hit the ground, it's not a catch. Even though the Oakland receiver had two feet and a hip down on the ground in the end zone, when his elbow hit, he bobbled the ball and it brushed the ground. Therefore, in the NFL that's not a catch. I don't agree with it, but that's the rule.

Note 1: A player who goes to the ground in the process of attempting to secure possession of a loose ball (with or without contact by a defender) must maintain control of the ball after he touches the ground, whether in the field of play or in the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, there is no possession.

That wasn't slight movement of the ball when he hit the ground. If you go to the ground, you better hold onto the damn ball.

Incomplete pass.

He had it secured no question, two feet down. Then when he hit the ground it came out. I understand its open for debate, but the replay def wasn't conclusive.

Wasn't it like inside their own 10? Or am I crazy?

Both State and UT owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Stoerner's clumsiness.

Because the entire question was whether he got both feet down. If you watch him land on the ground, the ball moves under him. But the refs clearly stated that he had control and got both feet down. Nothing was ever said regarding whether or not he had control after hitting the ground.

I'm 100% certain (unless the rule has changed - this is based on a play I saw 2-3 years ago... and goes for catches in the endzone, not sure about elsewhere) the reciever must maintain possession after he hits the ground regardless of whether he has both feet down or not.

I believe it was a Giants game a few years ago, the TE... maybe Shockey, caught the ball in the endzone & cleary had both feet down after he caught the ball. But he fell on his way out of bounds, ball hit the ground and bounced out. It was ruled incomplete because he did not maintain possession after hitting the ground. If the ball had not come out after hitting the ground, it would have been a TD.

I mean, who wasn't pulling for the raiders outside of chargers fans?

They've become the vandy of the NFL, minus the brains of course
