Yeah, you can't rebuild an entire O-line. If you calculated the minutes of playing time of those that left, I would suspect it is 98%. I know their play was substandard, but you gain chemistry and knowledge of the other players beside you on the line with playing time. Hard if not impossible to rebuild all and have any continuity. Unless we get more 5-star guys up front it will be the Lanorris escape show all over again. WE need at least 3 more BLUE chippers that can block-head hunters. maybe 4 more!!!
I'll take the 9-3 Lanorris escape show over 4-8.Yeah, you can't rebuild an entire O-line. If you calculated the minutes of playing time of those that left, I would suspect it is 98%. Problem is, the line showed little to no chemistry. Throughout the year we repeatedly heard from coaches and players alike that a problem was getting the OL to play as a unit.
I think we have to be better by default. We have an OL coach who has actually put OL in the NFL. Teasley was easily one of the worst P4 position coaches.
I assume it's a mashup of poor evaluation, players who just weren't as good as their HS ranking would indicate and poor coaching. Then is the Assessment of High school players that far off. How many of these guys were heralded 4-Star Recruits and end up being busts?
Markee Anderson 4 Star, J. Thompson high 4-star some listed as 5-Star, Tree B. 4-Star described as a beast. How can they all be that inept. Plus the massive one that never saw the field and transferred- Cam something- was a 5-star. Where is this complete void of competence coming from?
Cam should have been converted to Nose Guard and just put in to plug the middle.
These high school guys don't line up against college guys in high school; of course im sure you know this. High school guys get stars for weight alone. The really good ones (big, mean, AND smart) are id'ed early by the blue blood schools; significantly fewer of these guys than there are the so-called 'skill' guys so competing with the alabamas and georgias for the top shelf OL guys is tough. And unfortunately today you don't just move a Kam Pringle to nose guard; in his view thats not what he signed up for. He gone. Then is the Assessment of High school players that far off. Assume youre referring to Pegues (sp?). He was primarily DL that also was used at TE and fullback, some OG. Pretty rare in that he embraced it.Ole Miss had an Olineman doing exactly that- clogging the middle and eliminating 7 yard off tackle plays like we allow.
To me a no-brainer to get talent on the field.
Indiana is winning with older players with experience versus highly rated younger dudes. I wonder what the experience level is of those coming....12th out of SEC teams. Lost linemen averaged 3 stars. New linemen avg 3 stars, Nothing new
Have to follow the IU model and get downright lucky. We are currently ranked 26th nationally and 9th in the SEC. I have many times stated that it is hard to recruit in football to South Carolina and gave the reasons why. We have never had a Head Coach able to CONSISTENTLY recruit at a high level. That's why it is imperative that the Head Football Coach here at Carolina have coaching skills. that is, a good tactician, strategist, motivator, organizer and manager.
Cignetti produced 4 Top ten, 1 Top fifteen and 3 Top twenty teams at 3 schools prior to playing against FBS schedules. I suspect that Cignetti knows a thing or two about "coaching", as well.Have to follow the IU model and get downright lucky.
For sure. I don't think anyone could have possibly predicted his instant success at IU of all places though. They are historically the worst P4 football team.Cignetti produced 4 Top ten, 1 Top fifteen and 3 Top twenty teams at 3 schools prior to playing against FBS schedules. Cignetti has had 3 times at bat in the Portal. IU's portal class was ranked 10th two years ago. Last year, his second portal class was ranked 13th. This year, his portal class is currently ranked 4th. I come back to my original point: it's hard to recruit to South Carolina in football CONSISTENTLY at a high level. Indiana struck gold and silver in Cignetti. They have someone who has proven coaching skills at 3 schools and can recruit. Hopefully, Beamer will prove to have the coaching skills of a Spurrier and Morrison. If he does, that, at least would give us a chance to become nationally relevant. I don't believe we can get there if we place our hopes on bringing in the "Jimmys and the Joes". Bringing in the "Jimmys and the Joes" has been a difficult task at South Carolina. For sure. I don't think anyone could have possibly predicted his instant success at IU of all places though. They are historically the worst P4 football team.
Cignetti is also a Saban coaching alumn, so I think that adds a little something extra. If we have to make a coaching change at South Carolina, follow Indiana's model which was to hire someone who won at MULTIPLE sub-P4 schools such as, yes, Jamey Chadwell or someone with a similar background.
I'm not discounting that allure. But, I have to say that so was Will Muschamp.Cignetti is also a Saban coaching alumn, so I think that adds a little something extra.
If their D is lights out. Yeah, probably. If Muschamp does well at Texas, is it possible someone will give him a 3rd shot as Head Coach? I can't see it. But, you never know.

So, no better than any other year. Sorry but the writing is on the wall at this point.12th out of SEC teams. Lost linemen averaged 3 stars. New linemen avg 3 stars, Nothing new
Yeah, Muschamp is proof that simply being on Saban's staff doesn't automatically make someone a good head coach. Muschamp is a very good defensive coach. Unfortunately, he isn't a very good head coach.I'm not discounting that allure. But, I have to say that so was Will Muschamp.
All of the hot coaches 5 years ago have been fired. IU just got lucky. If we have to make a coaching change at South Carolina, follow Indiana's model which was to hire someone who won at MULTIPLE sub-P4 schools such as, yes, Jamey Chadwell or someone with a similar background.
If we don’t improve on the line we don’t improve12th out of SEC teams. Lost linemen averaged 3 stars. New linemen avg 3 stars, Nothing new
And how much is given for speed & athleticism? These high school guys don't line up against college guys in high school; of course im sure you know this. High school guys get stars for weight alone.
