1. Fla- Hill and Jenkins are going to make life tough for QB's

2. SC- return 7 of their top 8 guys- Gilmore is a player...this group is the reason Georgia wont beat them in game 2 this season

3. Alabama- Saban coaches this group more than any other. Mark Barron is back- this group is long on talent, coached better than anyone, but very little experience

4. LSU- Patrick Peterson is the best cover corner in the SEC. Jai Eugene returns also to make for a good secondary

5. Auburn- lots of experience returning and even get some guys back from injury

6. State- Mitchell, Banks, Broomfield...this should be a very improved secondary in 2010

7. Mississippi- former Coach34 player Johnny Brown leads a solid secondary for the Rebs

8. Tennessee- losing Berry isnt the end of the world for Tennessee

9. Kentucky- surprisingly good unit for the Wildcats

10. Arkansas- just another reason the Pigs can't win the West

11. Georgia- losing a couple of starters didnt help make this ****** secondary any better.

12. Vandy- too many losses to graduation in this group

I know we had some nice pick sixes but we did get torched a bunch last year. And last time I checked, Toast is still on the team, which means trouble.

ETA: Absolutely no stats to back this up. I just can't get the image of Georgia Tech and LSU out of my head.

how our secondary did after toast benched himself and before so. I'm way too lazy to do the math behind that.

Tennessee at 8th? Georgia at 11th? Both of these schools ALWAYS have great DBs and I know they both lost some starters and high profile players (Eric Berry), but they both still have a better Secondary than we do.

FWIW I would have us 8th or 9th in the SEC.

Moving Banks to corner could be a huge impact move. Unless there is major lag in picking up the CB technique, his size and speed should pay dividends immediately. Being able to put him on AJ Green and Darvin Adams in those two early games is huge. I would be concerned with Broomfield on either of those guys just from a size standpoint.

I think we saw Mitchell take a big step forward towards the end of last year. He had always been a safe player, did a good job being in position, etc., but not a playmaker. As the season progressed I though Mitchell really stepped up his game - started anticipating and disrupting passes. It probably helped that he didn't have to cover for toast at the end of the season.

I guess a lot of it depends on Nickoe Whitley. I am excited to see what he brings to the table. Banks, Broomfield and Langston should form the best CB rotation we have seen in a long time.

It really all comes back to the same dilemma at every position. Will we be better than we have been at this position in nearly 10 years? Yes. Does that mean we are one of the top 6 units in the SEC? Probably not. Only playing the games will answer that question.

As I mentioned on here yesterday, 4* JUCO transfer Rudell Crim played well at corner last year in the absence of injured Isaac Madison and freshman 5* Darius Winston. Crim is fast and physical and they've moved him to safety -- a huge upgrade from last year. A lot of the torchings last year were due to terrible safety play. With Crim there, a blossomingWinston at one corner and a solid Madison at the other, they will be plenty talented. Their success depends a lot onD line play though, which doesn't look to be much better than last year and may be worse with the loss of Malcolm Sheperd.

The name on the jersey doesnt mean you have to rank them high

fit into all this? I can't imagine him not starting at on the the cb positions. As crazy as it sounds, if they keep Whitley ahead of Banks at free safety, then I don't think Banks will be starting this year. Banks seemed like a perfect fit at fs last year and I'm not sure he has the speed and quickness to play cornerback. The good thing is that we have a **** load of depth in the secondary for the first time in a long time.

It caught my interest due to the addition of #2 Newton, but my lasting impression was that their secondary was horrible.

They were getting noticeably beaten, with regularity, first and second team.

They belong in the bottom three of the list IMO.

Whitley has obviously been impressing coaches enough to take a starting job at FS and Banks is a natural Corner. He's big and fast. Great hip flexibility. I think he has all the tools to be a good corner. I would want him or Langston on Adams of Auburn and Green of Georgia. I like Broomfield and every time I doubt him he makes a big play. Hopefully this year he proves me wrong again. <div>
</div><div>Johnny you know I've been high on Whitley for a while. I think he'll do fine and allow us more depth at corner. And if it doesn't work out, we can always move Banks back to FS. TallE has a gay user name doesn't he? I realized what the "E" meant yesterday when I was thinking about it. Freak.</div>

I don't think you can put total yards only with out attempts. Obviously Arkansas and Houston are going to have more yards but heck they throw the ball a lot more then the others. To get the realstats you would need the number of attempts, the number of yards yards after catch each individual catch and so on. (Hell I may not know what I'm talking about.)

Manny Diaz has said this at multipleappearancesaround the state including the one I attended. Went as far as to say that Banks had the only for sure starting spot at corner and the rest would battle it out for the number 2 corner and thenickel. Said Whitley just makes plays and is for sure one of our best 11 defensive players so he has to be on the field.<div>
</div><div>That make you feel any better?</div>
