<div id="refHTML"></div>Preface: I don't admit to being a recruiting expert. I have never even held a subscription to a recruiting site, but what I do know, is all gained from articles, common sense, and other sources.

1. I think we finish strong. I personally think we end up with Robinson, Matthew Wells, Quinterrius Eatmon, Nick Griffin, Taurice King, Maudracus Humphrey, Chris Hughes, and POSSIBLY Brunetti. (I'm still not sold on him even thinking about coming to us though) Either way, disregarding "stars", all of these guys are highly sought after guys, and would polish off the class very nicely. Ranking wise: I think we finish in the 30s.

2. I do think some of the guys are we have committed are vastly underrated. Virges, Carr, Hill, and Clausell are among these in my opinion.

3. We redshirted a ton of good talent last year.

4. I think many of the lower level athletes we have committed will eventually be very good role players a la Lance Long (who croom never gave a role).

5. I give you Croom's first attempt at recruiting: http://mississippistate.s...;p=9&c=4&yr=2004

Just my thoughts

both our class and the Rebel's class will look the same. We will each have 2-3 guys that could play anywhere in the country, 20 guys you could interchange between our two schools, and 2-3 guys you take a chance on, i.e. Dylan Favre.

I'm personally fairly content with this class, but sure I'd love to have more star power. We all know that Mississippi players stay under the radar, except for the bigger schools. Hell if they don't go to a camp Scout most likely doesn't even rate you.

Ole Miss is pulling out all the stops to hinder our recruiting. Obviously we're doing things right.

...that 2004 class sucked! Only 4 three stars. And only one impact player in the whole class. Glad Crooms stuck around Green Bay to mentor his professional RB's through the playoffs.

<div id="refHTML"></div>He's from Florida if I'm not mistaken. He had all kinds of offers and hurt his knee in HS and they all pulled off. So, his senior year he was only considered a 2 star recruit. So, he went to ECU and the rest is history.

we have 10 very solid prospects, 3 of whom could play for anyone in the country. (Eulls, Neal, Carr)

The bottom 7 consists of 2 guys very few people have seen play (Clausell & Hill) and 5 guys that I consider questionable.

We still have a good chance to land 5 upper echelon prospects and 3 or 4 more solid players. It's should be a nice class. Not great, but not a program killer.

Although, I don't doubt that Dan's invited walk-ons are better than Croom's.

call each other out, be cool, and nitpick the hell out of posts, especially on this board. But a little common sense can go a long way.

BigLeagueChew, do you really take those Scout offers to be gospel? Even more, does it even matter? Do you really think Michael friggin' Carr is only capable of an MSU offer? Do you realize he shut his commitment down on signing day last year and had been saying he was going to MSU for 3 years? He's a top 10 player in the state, and he could play anywhere he wants.

So the point of your post was what? To try and be cool and "technically" call somebody out, even though it was you that looks stupid?

2 4* guys already and another guy from Florida, Lamb, who was getting some good offers. At Louisville no less, yeah they had some good seasons but recruits don't flock there. They went there because of Strong.

That's the kinda recrootin impact State fans had hoped for. Meanwhile Crooms sat his *** in Green Bay.

If Carr would have not committed so early, he would have had more offers. However, for a player to be someone "who could play anywhere in the country," an early commitment to State, is not going to keep the UGA's, UF's, Ala's, LSU''s of the world from offering him. Is he a good football player and a solid prospect? Yes. Could he play anywhere in the country? No.

Please show me what ranking has him as a top 10 player in MS. Rivals and Scout don't.

I wasn't trying to be cool, just using facts and numbers to prove a point. So please fabricate some typical ******** response.

One positive is that we no longer have to hope for enough talent to compensate for our lack of coaching. Mullen has already proven that he can more with the talent given that what MSU had gotten used to.

First, it was hoping Croom got "his" players in here so his WCO would work (all the while he abandoned the offense that won us the Florida and Kentucky games in 2004). Then it was hoping that these guys got just one more year of coaching then they'd produce, because they were raw, because poor old Croom couldn't recruit to lil ole MSU. Then in 2007, I remember praying that we could get to 6 wins to get the extra two weeks of practice because "that would bring it all together" and "that's all this team needs is a little more time for the offense to gel".

Funny how this whole time we were running the wrong system and the more coaching they got, the worse the players played. At MSU, you HAVE to have a system to fit the available players to. Even funnier is when we finally get that, and a coach that likes running QBs like Mississippi produces, THEN we sign a 4* passer.

what stops are we pulling out to hinder your recruiting?

Is there something you've heard, or is it just that we're doing better with certain recruits than you thought we would?

Nutt expected to clean house and get who he wanted, esp. coming off back to back good seasons. And it just hasn't happened. Mullen is beating him left and right, especially if you consider the situation - I mean what's going to happen when MSU has a good season and Ole Miss doesn't. The Mullen to Florida rumors, the Tyler Russell is going to transfer rumors, the MSU is telling you what you want to hear rumors, etc. It's happening, and you won't agree, and that's OK. Negative recruiting/hindering/whatever - not really affecting us, because the guys who it is affecting were going to Ole Miss anyway.

Oh, that's right. Mullen doesn't negative recruit but we do.

You need to quit believing everything you read on the internet, or at least learn to take most of it with a grain of salt. Everyone plays the game the same way. You don't think Mullen goes into Vincent Sanders's house and tries to use Pat Patterson's lack of catches for us as a recruiting tool? It goes both ways. I'm sure we negative recruit, but I'm also sure Mullen does too.

Just so we're clear, we aren't going to get anyone that wasn't heading to Ole Miss regardless, and we aren't going to beat you for any 50/50 recruits? That's essentially what I gather from the tone of your post. Correct me if I'm wrong.

This is why I love recruiting by the way. It doesn't matter what your team does, just about everyone can claim to be a winner.

ETA: This is just a side note, but I've been curious what Mullen is doing for OL recruiting? I've noticed you only have one on the list. Given that you only signed 2 last year, I'm sure he's planning on adding another 4 or so before signing day. From just looking at your commit list, that would be my only major concern going forward.

I didn't say Mullen didn't do any negative recruiting. I know he does. And that tells me Ole Miss is a legit threat to those recruits. Same the other way around. It sure seems like Mullen is using facts while Nutt is making up rumors out of desperation. Just sayin'.

Save your "watch out for the internet" speeches for someone who needs them.

And yes, we are clear. You need to quit inferring dumb **** from the tones of posts. The only claiming of a winner I've done happened back around Thanksgiving. And Saturday.

Some years MSU will do better. Some years Ole Miss will do better.

Overall, neither team dominates the state's top recruits yearly, and I doubt that'll change much anytime soon.

No it doesn't, but I'm quite sure most here remember GoatHolder pumping up Croom and his recruiting every year he was employed. So why should anyone listen now?

No matter who the coach is and no matter what the result, you will spread your koolaid laden Gene Swindoll brand of swill as if you have just stolen all of Urban Meyer's recruits.

To answer your question regarding OL, we do need to sign 3 or 4 more. I dont know jack **** about Blaine Clausell, who is already on campus; but our staff evaluated him and took his commitment, so until they prove otherwise, I am alright with Clausell. At least, he looks the part. Also and another reason I am not too concerned about OL recruiting, look at what Hevsey and Balis did with what Croom left. That's Helen Keller-esque miracle working...

Anyway, we are looking at the following OL prospects: Damien Robinson, Quinterrius Eatmon (3 star and currently committed to USF), Kenarious Gates (3 statr and currently committed to Kentucky), Archie Muniz (2 star and currently committed to Utah), Cameron Fleming (2 star and currently committed to Stanford) and I think we are keeping warm Chuckie Curry (JUCO), Dillon Day (probably an interior guy)...

We are also stock-piling walkon OLs like most Missippians stock pile water and canned meats with onset of white death. Served.

5 OL prospects, 4 of which are committed to other schools and a "stock-piling (of) walkon OLs like most Missippians stock pile water and canned meats with onset of white death"--------sounds like a recipe for winning.

Well, we are also holding out hope that Bradley "the Revolving Door" Sowell transfers...

or maybe 10 consecutive years of klan meetings in Oxford (fingers crossed on both) to really give MSU an edge. Even then, I'm not sure either school could dominate or that it would be that hard for the school that's fallen behind to pull even.

I assume Alabama and Auburn, Ga Tech and Ga, USC and Clemson would all have similar stories? Is Florida dominating FSU and Miami now?

You're right and how silly of us. Why would ever try and flip a recruit that is committed somewhere else...just doesnt make sense.
