I think your administration subscribes to the same theory a 'pastor' friend of mine years ago did. It's called Progressive Enlightenment. His theory was that if he only told you a little of the story at a time, that he could lead you along, feeling good the whole way, until he eventually got what he wanted out of you. Which was usually money.

By the way, that pastor spent some time in Leavenworth.

Because in Oxpatch, the "Bear hug" is:
A) an accepted greeting
B) blocking technique

At least (terrible as they may be) Hotty/Toddy and Landshart have some sort of connection to Ole Miss. The Black Bear? Doesn't make sense. There is no story or obvious connection that I am aware of. If you can't connect the mascot to your nickname or have some sort of legend to back it up, you might as well do something funny looking like that red blob thing at W. Kentucky or the Philly Phanatic - at least the kids will enjoy it.

That, or change your nickname and start over.

Ole Miss has already put out media instructions that shortened (shortened from "The University Of Mississippi") name of the school is "Mississippi" and not "Ole Miss". Look at any sports website under SEC teams. They don't list "Ole Miss". The list "Mississippi". A lot of commentators are even calling the school "Mississippi" instead of "Ole Miss".

We're seeing a slow, gradual process to completely disassociate Ole Miss from the Old South. "Mississippi" is going to become more an more common place until practically nobody notices when the school stops printing "Ole Miss" altogether. Probably after the football helmet eventually trades the Ole Miss script for a bear (they'd better not use a big M, copying our helmet design).

If you are the "Eagles"- your mascot is an eagle
If you are the Bulldogs"- your mascot is a bulldog
If you are a "Tiger" - your mascot is a tiger

I like things that make sense.....</p>

in fact, I think it is incumbent upon any State grad who just happens to also have an Ole Miss degree (grad school, law school, etc...) to vote in this ridiculous election. Hotty and/or Totty need your help today.

two years later got rid of the Colonel. Now they've taken away your song.

Do you really not see the big picture here? Read my post below about Progressive Enlightenment. I kid around a lot on here, and I certainly take every opportunity to make fun of the Rebels, but I'm not making this 'story' up. I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you, if you're really just now realizing all of these steps are just means to an end.

I knew exactly what was going on then...just like I do now. Hey...no skin off my back. Your posts won't change what I am fully aware of.

BTW, I would not give two ***** if they did change the name.

Good Grief...typing edit

like I said, I wouldn't care either way. I have always been a proponent of going back to The Flood, but what do I know.

The nickname will not change in our lifetime, but spend time on it if you wish.

The first thing I thought of when bear was mentioned was they are trying to be Bama west. I'm glad someone took that title away from us.

By the way, I know you said you don't care, but I would be pissed if I were an Ole Miss fan.

You know, named for all those AM <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">JP</span> <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">Lincoln</span> <span style="text-decoration: line-through;">Raycom</span> SEC Network? gametimes. And the lovely brown liquid used to tolerate the actual games.

While the base definition of "rebel" doesn't hold any racist connotation, a confederate rebel does. They're wiping it ALL away over time. Unless you're at the ripe old age of 80, it will change in your lifetime.

you source is full of shat....we are not changing nicknames. Period.

The other things that have happened were known and understood early in this process. Rebels is not on the table.

Please tell me y'all are not going to let them take away "rebels."

I mean, that's what the announcers were saying. "Ole Miss is changing its nickname to bears."

I heard it. Then I posted about it on a website and then I came here and "innocently asked" whether it was true or not, what I heard, that y'all were changing your nickname to bears.

If it was common knowledge years ago when they simply took away "sticks" in the essence of "safety"... WHY wouldn't they just go ahead and rip off the f'ing band aid, and do it all at once???

If it was common knowledge that the Kernel was going away years ago, why did everyone act so surprised when it happened? Why was there such an uproar among Ackbar nation when they announced From Dixie With Love wasn't going to be played any longer? Why did the KKK wait until then to stage a rally, if they knew about it for years? Why did everyone sound so shocked? I thought it was already known and planned for years ago.

You say you knew all this was going to happen, all the while proclaiming not to care... My source isn't full of **** (or at least you Rebels should hope he's not)... You, my good Bear, are full of ****.

/end of my participation in this thread. Waste of finger muscles.

So why did Admiral Ackbar get vetoed? He makes the most sense to me being the leader of the Rebel Alliance.

It is going to be the Mississippi Bears in a few years.... Get used to it... Bye Bye Rebels...
I wonder if the sidewalk Rebel fans will stick with them or move to USM Eagles so they can have a couple hundred fans at their home games.
