Rebels. Seriously, get over it. Banks is in the national spotlight.....

Quite simply, the rest of the country doesn't give a **** about one game. Banks has been the top DB this year and best a consistently player for 4 years. I know you are hanging every bit of self-esteem you can garner on the Egg Bowl right now, but seriously, get your head out of your ***. You look stupid trying to drag down the JIM THORPE AWARD WINNER.

Hate to deflate your bubble heads with this, but it's truth. Even worse for you, those 4* recruits we may get from this may keep our class ahead of yours. I understand your depression, with the turn in Nkemdiche's recruitment and the new article out about Kailo Moore.

Go ahead and watch this again: Link

I don't know why they are upset. They didn't have a guy in the running. I know back in the day I pulled for Archie to get the Heisman because I thought he was the best, regardless of where he went to school. Same with Payton.

Maybe I'm just ignorant of the situation, but wasn't Banks a JUCO and therefore a 2-year guy for us?

There is basically nothing right in your post.

Banks, a JUCO? Uhh. Then actually rooting for Archie? Do you know that Archie really would support burning MSU to the ground?

They have been much worse. I'm not going for that 'I know you are but what am I' but geez. I've been around a long time and I've never really seen as much real hate as this year. Some pretty bad blood back in the Jackie and Dog Brewer days though.

It's because of what we did the previous 3 years. We were brash with our marketing and their fanbase is now letting out the past 3 years of frustration. Next year, I hope we give it back to them ten fold when we win the Egg Bowl.

I know it may be hard to believe but I never really took part in the majority of Ole Miss bashing. No need to do it when we're winning I suppose.

However, I do think we could have been smarter and toned down some things. Instead of using our successful billboard campaign the right way, we go and put one in Oxford. What the ****. Still pissed we did that. Not scared of them or anything, but is there really any need to get right in front of their face and piss on them?

Banks was a 2* recruit from Maben with one offer - State. His mother didn't want him and gave him up. His father died in a logging traffic accident when he was 12. He was raised mostly by his grandparents. I couldn't be more proud for him, despite the adversity in his life, he's worked hard and its paid off. It will really pay off on draft day.

Slay is the two year guy. Had he gotten his grades in order, he would have been a 4 year guy like banks, they were in the same 2009 signing class.

Rooted for Archie. check.
Misspelled Peyton. check.
Didn't realize Banks was a 4 year player for us (even though he picked off Tebow twice his freshman year). check.

Yep. Closet Bear.

I didnt root against Banks and i know a lot of others that didnt root against him. We just didnt expect him to win since he didnt really have a great year.

I will say congrats to him though its a great accomplishment. You all should be proud of him.

I actually think it's funny how foolish they are making themselves look. Hell, they are even over on the Northwestern message board talking **** about us! Really Rebels? Calling us MissStake and ****, it's embarrassing and they don't even realize how obsessed it makes them look.

It really has gotten to them...

If my team was bowl eligible for the first time in a while and on the verge of an epic recruiting class I'm not sure I would take time to bash a guy for winning a national award. Id like to think I wouldn't be that insecure of a sports fan and had better things to celebrate.

i'm happy for banks and msu personally. i don't

get as caught up with the haters either way. i'll pitch some smack but all in good fun. i have my opinion as to why its gotten so personal but its just my opinion. i'd like to see it get back to where its more fun and carries less vitriol. i can't really root for msu to win much cause it makes our task tougher but i can sure be happy for recognition that one of your guys gets on the national stage. if we can both get to the point where we're not two midgets fighting about who's taller then maybe it will settle down.

Your last sentence kinds of sums it up when it's put in SEC perspective.

railin, i enjoy your posts cause you're reasonable, but i disagree with this one. we're no worse that you guys. right now we've got something to rub in your nose so it seems that we're worse but trust me i've been on the other side. i do think dawgstudent is right. we're frustrated cause it hasn't been enough for ya'll to win the last 3 yrs. since day one mullen has gone out of his way to ridicule ole miss and stoke the fire. that's his priviledge but i will say i don't want our head coach to get caught up in that. fans and kids maybe ok but i'd like my head coach to be a bit more subdued. dawgstudent mentions jackie and brewer. that is when things began to get out of hand. the problem as i see it is that just like you think we're worse and i don't agree. payback is hell. at some point somebody has to stop the cycle. mullen has toned down a bit lately. our jab at him on the jumbotron may or may not have been appropriate although i'm ok with it. a statement that arrogant is just going to come back on you. the "leaders" at both need to make a concerted effort to show some mutual respect and i think the fans will follow. not the nut cases but the majority. i'd like to see that.

railin, another thing i think was over the top was the ole miss jersey's on the floor. sort of like stomping on the 50 yard line logos. we may have done things that you guys might equate to that but i don't know about them. you put it right we both should be able to win without pissing on the other. just smile and enjoy the win,.

I agree. It's really childish, petty and embarrassing. If they think they are making a positive impression on the Northwestern fans, they are sadly mistaken.

A lot of this started with Nutt's "recruits swimming to the boat" comment

He said it the week of the egg bowl and talked about Ole Miss being on the rise. State then went out and kicked Ole Miss' *** that day and Mullen promptly responded by grabbing the microphone and saying what he said. I think it was more about Nutt than anything with Mullen. He has bee much more quiet this year and even gave compliments to Freeze during Egg Bowl week.

As far as the fan bases, both sides have more than their fair share of dumb *** fans and that will never change

And they can't say that we never acknowledge any of their players of being good. We've ALL noted how good Moncrief was this year, CJ blew us up, Eli is a 2x Super Bowl MVP, P-Willy is probably the best linebacker in the NFL... Why is it hard for some of them to acknowledge that we have a good DB?

Of course, that's not always the case. My Dad (mississippi fan) loves Banks and Russell, but the stuff I've seen on twitter, etc. since last night is just ridiculous.

It definitely is.

But it didn't just start with State's 3 game win streak in the Egg Bowl. It's a lot more ruthless b/c of the internet and online fan communities, twitter, facebook, etc. A lot of people with diarrhea of the mouth (you and I included). Everyone wants to be SAOTD (Smartass Of The Day).

Perhaps both sides could try respecting each other. Tall task, I know. I know one could argue that most of it is done in fund, but we fans know better.

This entire thread could be copied to Gene's and would fit right in. And that makes me sad.

Yep, I rooted for Archie back in the day ... which was 45 years ago. He was OK back then ... just a great FB player even though he played for OM. That was strictly my opinion and there's nothing "wrong" with it. Admittedly, he's changed a bit with age.

The only thing factually wrong with my post was thinking that Banks was a JUCO, and yes, I actually thought he was a JUCO; I knew he was a low-star. I honestly don't remember seeing him on the field up until the last two years, and I've been to virtually every home game, and several away games, and all bowl games except the Gator last year, since the mid-1900s. Obviously, I didn't pay close enough attention.

Good post, I just don't see it ever happening like that. The better the teams get, with the more on the line, the worse the rivalry is going to get. Just my opinion based on what we know historically. The last time we weren't "midgets fighting" and were both good teams ended in one helluva blaze of glory that is still tied up in a Madison County Courtroom and basically took a decade for us both to fully recover from. Hopefully Slive's "Everything goes through SEC office before NCAA" approach prevents us both from ending up on crippling probation in the near future...because this is going to get worse before it gets better.
