Please don't mention how Cignetti did it in a year. Cignetti is a unicorn so normal rules dont apply to him.
Clearly the staff churn says “it hasn’t been working”. I think our OC can get it done. DC has not. Need the defense to start winning us some games. Not to be that guy but Nebraska has been rebuilding for 2 DECADES... yes, I know it takes time, however, what used to take 5+ has just been shortened to sub 3 years... DONU is basically starting over, again, in 2026 so let's see what happens I guess...
So glad someone started another thread about thisPlease don't mention how Cignetti did it in a year. Cignetti is a unicorn so normal rules dont apply to him.
Indiana's results make the case for stability and adapting to the times. Cignetti imported a stable, successful, intact organization, then added to it with expert use of the portal - bringing in production over potential - with the help of a billionaire (Mark Cuban Indiana alumn), and especially focused on quickly building a QB pipeline. Nebraska fans would have hated a Cignetti hire and he may be one of a kind, but we can learn from what he has done. Rhule needs to keep shuffling a coach or two per year until he gets a top 25 coaching staff and Nebraska needs to up to coaching salary pool if that is a problem (see DL coach). Then you want to bring in at least cohesion "pods" of players and coaches if possible, prioritizing production over potential in the portal, and hell or high water if you want to be great you have to start building an NFL QB development narrative. Please don't mention how Cignetti did it in a year. Stable? In the 29 years before Cigs arrived, Indiana had 3 winning seasons. 26 losing seasons. The 3 years before he arrived, Indiana was 9-27. Stable? Another lame excuse for Matt. It can be done (probably not to the extent that Cigs has), It will be done ( At some point). However it will not be done when you hire .500 coaches with the mentality of: Is he nice? Is he mean? Can he rebuild in an era where there is no rebuilding.? Anyone with a brain knows how this is going to end up soon. Everyone from the top down should be embarrassed at what has been put on the field with these last 3 clowns.Indiana's results make the case for stability and adapting to the times. Cignetti at JMU was a stable program and he imported the whole thing. This wasn't fast, it started under the radar at a different school.Stable? When the excuses are no more, this program can eventually thrive. The administration is still living in the dark ages.
It never took 5+ years. Historically most major turnarounds took 3-4 years on average with the occasional outlier either above or below that timeframe. In >90% of cases, you know what you have by year 3.Not to be that guy but Nebraska has been rebuilding for 2 DECADES... yes, I know it takes time, however, what used to take 5+ has just been shortened to sub 3 years... Yes. Missed the word imported. However, He still imported JM players. He didnt import Alabama, Georgia etc..players. Made it work because he was always a great coach. We hire Matt, an average coach who imported unstable crappy assistants. Adapting to the times is key. You are right.Cignetti at JMU was a stable program and he imported the whole thing. I think it’s the same someoneSo glad someone started another thread about this
Don't blame the fans. No stakeholder at Nebraska gives a **** about the fans. They think we are small town hicks who are too stupid to know how to spend our money, and that we will continue to fill the stadium and buy husker crap just because we have done it for decades and we are afraid of losing our sell-out streak and "greatest fans" status. That is a moral problem on behalf of the narcissistic decision makers, presidents, ADs, coaches. It important to remember that Cignetti showed up to Indiana and basically had to rip everybody in the stadium to get their head's out of their asses because the "way it was done" was making people really rich, without them actually doing anything well. It is a sort of cartel, where everybody on the inside decides to create a sort of inertia against change, because change means they might lose their position, job, and income in the name of actually winning. Fans don't think this way...they just want to be entertained and win. If Hilary Clinton was hired and took us to the playoffs, all would be forgiven. Frank Solich, Bill Callahan, and Mike Reilly were terrible hires at the time and the fans didn't care...like Callahan and Reilly were some of the worst hires imaginable and people just went along with it. So Cignetti is a unicorn but Fred the standard.Fred likes this thread
Also have to keep in that mind bottom feeder programs will take even longer to rebuild. Takes more time, effort, and $$ to talk winners into taking a chance on a perpetual loser. Please don't mention how Cignetti did it in a year. Cignetti is a unicorn so normal rules dont apply to him.
Beats the hell out of losing the off season. So Cignetti is a unicorn but Fred the standard.
Morons are returning.
Matt’s going to be winning that 4th straight off-season title soon
I’m just beaten down to the point that I don’t expect a miraculous turn around. We were in a deep hole in a state that doesn’t produce much elite talent. Rhule having been out of college ball for several years was a toe stubber compounded by his late start assembling a staff. Then he went back to the well for some questionable hires.Rhule is around for another year or two. Either he figures it out and puts together a roster than is capable of winning the games that matter in the league, or the reset button is hit. That's not a surprise.
Serious question. I don’t know and am too lazy to look up.We were in a deep hole in a state that doesn’t produce much elite talent.
You better have a foundation before you fill your team with portal guys or you’re screwed too. There's no such thing as "building" anymore in the transfer portal era.
Don't fret. I've been hoping the Detroit Lions would make it to the Super Bowl for oner 50 years...my teeshirt reads "Wait 'til Next Year!'. I put that on every New Years day. My prayer is: "Please God, before I die!".I find it hilarious the OPs name is Moral Victories and talking about needing time. I’m sorry but I probably don’t have another 25 years to wait and just be happy with moral victories.
But how fun was it to watch Barry???? Best ever in my opinion.Don't fret. I've been hoping the Detroit Lions would make it to the Super Bowl for oner 50 years...my teeshirt reads "Wait 'til Next Year!'. I put that on every New Years day. My prayer is: "Please God, before I die!".
