said he's hearing a rumor that UNC will ask Mack Brown to come back and be AD.

If he retired, Manny Diaz might be the luckiest man alive. Doubt he would get it, but still. Assistant coach at Middle Tenn to possible head coach at Texas in two seasons.

Here's an article about the situation.

Brown leaves. Selling houses, moving kids and mama around isn't much fun, to me anyway. Say the rumors persist throughout the season i.e. questions every week if Mac's going back to NC, losses pile up, team sucks (defense included), Brown does in fact leave, then what? Some would then question if the 1 year job Manny did @ State was a fluke when he couldn't produce w/ 5 star talent in Tejas.

I've been hearing this for over a week now. Those guys are PISSED at the president for the way he handled the Davis firing (I wouldn't be too surprised to see this cost the president his job) and they want Mack tohave full control ofthe athletic dept. Mack may be ready to retire (another 6-6 season and he might not have much choice) so it wouldn't surprise me at all to see this happen. UNC recruiting for this year is screwed big-time. They've already lost half their commitments and their coaching staff is lame ducks. This hasgotta be a tough sell to a recruit, "Look, I won't be here next year and I've got no idea who will be. But it's a real good school. Now if you'll excuse me, I've got to go work on my resume."

Mac is close to retirement. Although, I really don't see him taking the UNC AD job. To do it right its 24-7. I know ours works like that.

it all depends on his defense though. If the defense does well but Mack leaves at worse he lands another good DC job. At best his name is thrown out there for the HC coach. Even if he didn't get it (and probably wouldn't) you're name is now out there as a possible HC for Texas. The PR alone is incredible. Either way, his career path is looking good IF he has a good defense this year.

And then he actually got the job.... Then he kept on Diaz.... Then brought some of our coaches with him (Balis, Hevesy)... Wouldnt that be....neat
