Yancy now has Evans high on the bears and Bammer. You all saw this coming. Shay Hodge, Deuce, etc. vs. Mullen putting ONE coach on him: Wilson. Wilson will probably leave for USC or something and our recruiting will crumble again.<div>
</div><div>He also has an article on Gaines. What's the story with him? I'm guessing he's probably nearing a commitment to us, since Yancy made it a premium article. He usually keeps them public when a kid MSU offered is leaning toward Ole Miss.</div>

Once a landshark, always a landshark. Watch and see what I tell you. I don't need Yancy to tell me. Plus, the talk of "all us playing together" is code for Nix is paying us and we'll all go with UM last minute after MSU sat on scholarships for kids they won't get. Then we'll go pick up some kids that were going to Ark. State or South AL to fill those spots.

now, whether it means a hill a beans, remains to be seen. I think the quality of classes top to bottom is still probably very equal, between us and them. But he definitely knows how to fire up the recrootin masses, did it at Arkansas and is doing it now in Oxford.

Yancy hasn't said anything on Evans other than posting a video interview of him from the Dandy Dozen shoot. If anything, he believes you guys lead for the moment, but that Evans will wait it out until signing day. The only other comments on Evans recently are that winning games this season will be critical to landing Evans. Both OM sites are saying you lead for the moment.

We stopped recruiting Gaines hard after his first camp. Supposedly, Markuson doesn't think he is flexible enough or moves well enough to give a committable offer. This isn't a recent event, as Yancy said the guy didn't have a committable offer as early as March. That doesn't mean he is a bad player. Our OL coach just doesn't feel he will fit in. Same situation with huge OT Brandon Hill of Collierville. We gave him and initial verbal offer, but after seeing him at camp, we have chosen to pursue others. I have no reason to question the move considering that his evaluations thus far have been very good. We only have one more opening for a OL. He will commit to you very soon. Maybe he is wrong and Gaines turns out to be ALL SEC. We won't know for a while.

He hasn't been right one time on that this crootin season. Every commit we have was mid interest before he committed. And two high interests have committed somewhere else. It's Yancy and it's July. Dont worry about it

but Quay will be at State baring something unususal---one of my only real "in" in the recruiting process. As far as Gaines, I hear we want him, but want to see him get in better shape---he's around 350lbs.

and that is that Evans is undecided and Gaines is a heavy MSU lean.

I do not see Yancy saying anything about Quay being high on the Bears and Alabama and not on State. Yeah, I know he updated Quay's profile to show high interest in both schools, but I mean if you listen to the interview it would appear that is true and that it will come to down to those 3 schools as of right now.

On Gaines, the guy is a Dandy Dozen offensive lineman. We want him. And so does Ole Miss and everyone else in the state - and probably others. This is almost a case like Damein Robinson and everyone saying they didn't want him. Ludicrous.

I find it silly that anybody from either side thinks they are a lock for Evans. He changes his mind every few weeks. So if he doesn't know, I'm not sure how a random source would know. And that goes for the silly OM fans who are saying he is ours.

As long as Bama is in the picture, they are always a threat. Quay has already said several times that he will wait it out. My belief is that Jan would be the earliest he commits.

If you believe what you typed above that I put in bold, then you are just setting yourself up for the "somebody paid him" excuse in case he doesn't go to MSU. And let's be honest, somebody from one of his favorites may pay him at some point. It's my understanding that the pressure in his hometown comes from one of your strong donors (a doctor maybe) and from our side its Shay Hodge & Deuce. He committed to us once before, so there is obviously some interest.

I think both teams best chance to land him will be to win 6+ games. IMO, you have a better chance of that than us.

What does Dandy Dozen have to do with it. Cowan is Dandy Dozen and we didn't go after him. Cody Prewitt was Dandy Dozen and you guys didn't go after him. Steve McNair Jr was Dandy Dozen and neither of us went after him hard. Cameron Lawrence was Dandy Dozen and we didn't go after him. Clayton Moore was Dandy Dozen and you didn't go after him....and on and on...

but we have been his leader for several months, he has a cousin on the team--Taveze Calhoun, and he visits us frequently. He is not hanging around Oxford and a family member says he tells them he is going to State.

But this is ONLY MY OPINION: We already have to fight over a smaller amount of big time star players in Mississippi. I think when a school finds out a guy is heavily leaning towards another school, of course they stop recruiting them, why waste their time. But our coaches aren't dumb - of course they would take a talented player. You have to get the best talent you can, the easiest way you can. These athletes from MS are the best way to do it. If UM or MSU could have gotten McNair they would have tried. Same with the other guys you listed.<div>
</div><div>Contrary to popular belief, these players already have schools they like and don't like. The mistake here is to think that ANY player out there can be influenced to ANY school because of recruiting effort, money, attention, "showin' da love", or any other dumb thing they tell a recruitnik.</div>

Okey dokey...

He is a lock to MSU and if he goes elsewhere then something fishy happened. I guess that is a defense mechanism in case you don't get him.

No wonder some of you think that MSU is clean and everyone else is dirty. So naive...

Have you ever considered that recruits sometimes say what people want to hear just to keep them off their nuts. Derek Pegues did the same thing to keep OM people from worrying him.

Why don't you watch what Quay himself says about leaders?

No one wanted McNair because of his grades. He didn't even make it into USM. And why it's always the norm response "
"we didn't want him" when guys don't commit to you, but in this instance we have to give up on recruits that are high on other schools because we might only be able to sign 18-20 guys this year. I'm sure if Gaines committed to us we would be happy, but no reason to go after him hard if he's a state lean and we don't need him in this class

..I realize one of the primary functions of this board is to distribute recruiting information.

I have no problem with that, because I like to keep up with recruiting.

But freaking out over every little recruiting rumor & lie in late July is a little much.

Until Mullen begins to show a downward trend in the win/loss column, I'm not going to question his recruiting strategy. Nor am I going to get pissed at Mullen when he fails to land a recruit that is Mr. Popularity on sixpackspeak.com.

If he ever took us to ATL he'd make sure it was mentioned in his obituary

I quit putting stock in pre-season, July-August 'commitments' a long time ago. Most of these kids will 'waiver' ten times between now and next February. I only begin paying attention to commitments about he time bowl season kicks off. As for Quay, a commitment from him to any school as of right now is meaningless. JMHO

Unless a kid truly has ties to a University(Russell and State, Moore and Ole Miss), nothing is guaranteed until signing day. Nothing. Most of the black kids that come out of MS could give two ***** about Ole Miss or State growing up. They are Miami, FSU, USC, etc. fans. That's reality.

Talk to me in December, and I can give you solid info. Until then, on most of these kids, none of know. Why? Because most of THEM don't know at this point.

but I think the best you guys do is 5-7, with 4-8 most likely. Based on convos with a couple of Bear buddies, 4-8 will get the money for the buyout. I dont think any of you want to make the move, but will feel like you have to after 4-8, losing to State aGAIN, and us playing in another big bowl game.

5-7 will be iffy, and 6-6 he will obviously be fine. I just dontthink there is any way you guys win 6 games.

Nutt isn't going anywhere. I will make you a bet, Coach. You said we don' win more than 4, and Nutt will be gone. I will give you 2-1 odds right now that you are wrong on both. not one, but both. So you have two chances to win @ 2-1 odds. Since you are so certain, I see no reason why you wouldn't accept this.

And Flab, maybe it is when the checks get cashed. That's when Newton cashed the one he was written from MS State boosters. Too bad they didn't come off more later in the process when they were outbid. If you are going to play the game, don't get pissed when you get outbid, then refuse to up the offer. See, that works both ways. But, I forgot......State runs a clean program, right?

i did say 5-7 was possible, I just think it's much more likely you guys go 4-8. I'll bet you a season of HBD, Mississippi doesnt win 6 games- how bout that?

Personally, I'd rather you kept Nutts- it's better for us. You definitely know more than I do about ya'lls situation, but I just dont see you guys keeping him at 4-8.

on the Bears schedule. From what is returning and based on last years performances, I see no more than 5 wins coming, and that's if one or two teams get lost on the way to the game.**

Seriously 4-8 is most likely outcome, but it could get ugly if they dont make it out of first 5 with 3 wins.

who sit in our group of season tickets. I brought up the point about Nutt hardly ever having many recruits before late fall, and then all of a sudden all these top recruits abandon ship and join the sinking one in oxford. Makes me think Nutt has his cronies out there all high school football season, feeling out these recruits, seeing how truly committed they are, and how easily they can be influenced with brown paper bags and 99% discounted furniture. Once he has these easily influence seniors identified, the cronies make their move. Cars leave the lost, imaginary jobs open up at various establishments, and recruits jump on the Nutt. Just theory for now, but any logical thinking person would ask, "Why else would these recruits do what they do?" I could understand if they decommitted from state for Texas, LSU, Bama, or one of the traditional powers, but not for a school going in the opposite direction. If both teams end the season with similar records and the same **** happens, I wouldn't be suprised if Nutt is gone and the NCAA makes a few visits to the Mecca of college football (according to Steven Godfrey).

Little dramatic there, Ramona.

Seriously, read what you just typed. If you think it sounds normal, seek help.
