I think Bo will be really good. VA Tech is a much better fit stylistically for him than Nebraska in my opinion. Where he chooses will have an impact on his success for sure.

Why do you think it is a "better fit stylisically" ?

and VT does?
They aren’t Iowa but they are more than Nebraska. To me a successful Bo looks a lot like Caleb Henson. I don’t see him ever looking like Hardy, Ridge or Antrell.

I take it you disagree which is fine with me, just stating my opinion.

Bo is very good and will be on the podium every year he is not injured. His pace will make him a menace and he will score big bonus points. Low end Desanto and high end Lee IMO.

Iowa was the best place for him both financially and for wrestling, but that ship has sailed.

I'm more so just trying to get you to understand how weird of a statement that is.

Neither Nebraska or VT have a "style" that would make you believe their core value is pace above all else. So just weird I guess. Hell, VT's last champ (mekhi) made a living off being the most athletic guy in the building, but not doing much. You're right that Henson has a great tank, but Hardy, Ridge and Antrell are all completely different stylistically.

Seeing as you don’t even realize Henson is their last NC, forgive me if I don’t take your opinion as the gospel.

TNT fit that mold, and people outside our program were saying he would be a good fit for Iowa before he committed to us for a little while.
Bo reminds me of TnT when they were his age. Relentless forward pressure, unrivaled work ethic, and able to break 83% of his opponents with pace. While he isn't the most technical wrestler, he gets every bit out of his talent with effort. DeSanto is a great comparison. Iowa really was a great fit for him. Too bad he didn't stick with what his gut told him.

I like seeing this move. A stronger VA Tech is good for the sport imo
They did even make his final list the first time around did they? If they weren’t going to experience the best wrestling atmosphere as part of out team, then it’s good they went to a smaller program where they never have to face our crowd as a Benedict Arnold. I guess the closest they will come will be at who’s number one. Ironic Bo is wrestling a Raney. I’m sure V Tech never dreamed they would be the winners of the Bassett trio when he committed to us, and his brother said it has always been Iowa. I’m sure things were looking down after PSU poached James. What has V tech done that has had top wrestlers putting them in their final school often, including Angelo. Coach must have a silver tongue, and must be willing to break every rule a top recruit wants him too, because that’s why we lost Bassett. It is ironic how he said we weren’t good for his Christian journey when we refused to be cheaters for them. Does V-Tech have great and highly funded RTC, like they want?

None of the other teams he’s considering would have had a meet and greet with fans lined up around the block waiting to meet him and buy his merchandise. That was just a little taste of what was to come. Look what happened to Chittum after dumping us. I know he’s not going to be getting near the NIL money he initially negotiated with us. That alone made that a stupid move for him.
I sent a used Rudis / Bo sweatshirt back to Rudis and they gave me a refund. I included a note suggesting they charge the loss to Bo.

In general VA tech is a good school. Before you start bashing them too hard it's worth noting that they have the exact same number of individual national champions as Iowa has in the last 10 years. All americans is obviously a different story as is team performance but they have had a fair numbers of studs and success. I think then landing there helps balance out the landscape a little bit. Much better than them ending up at Penn state or ok state imo

Part of the problem there (for the Bassetts) is I don’t think they were wanted at either location, or they would have been there in heartbeat.

I could certainly see that. At minimum I imagine the original (potential) large offers were off the table at this point.

I was kind of hoping landing at Okyst would dislodge the bigger Raney and get us back in the picture with them. Oh well. I’m sure whatever financial deal he is getting at V tech now is nothing compared to the deal he had with us. If V tech doesn’t deliver on being much better training for his freestyle his senior year, then this will have been a terrible move on their part. Last year, with every big program coming after him hard, no one would have thought him and Melvin would end up at V tech. Their level of competition during the season will let them pad their records to get good seeds at nationals, and they will definitely be the face of the program.

Let's put it this way: I do not believe if you put Bo on a lie detector test when he was a sophomore that he would have thought it was possible he would end up not at one of the bluebloods, let alone not even in the Big 10. VT is a good program, though, and maybe this ends up a blessing for them by letting off some of the pressure on Bo while simultaneously raising the profile of VT.

Melvin may look around in a few months and be like "WTF?" though.

I’m concerned that not only those three, but others they may influence will put V tech as an another team passing us by that shouldn’t. The comments on Bo’s Instagram after this commitment had many more negative and what the hell kind of comments than after he committed to us. So unless they fly the family in every month, all expenses paid, to practice with the team and let dad be heavily involved with those practices, I don’t see what they gained by dumping us to go to V tech? I’m sure their coach is willing to sell his soul to get them on board, since he already seems to be in on many blue chip guys. Best thing there for Bo is having Henson as a training partner if he sticks around, but could be competing against him in freestyle soon.

The problem with Iowa right now is that it doesn't feel like we are doing anything to make up ground on Penn State. They lock in high school world team members, and we fight and battle to get a few top 20 recruits, no positive momentum.
I have to think they may have mis heard God on his plan. I can't imagine not ending up at iowa, ok st, or psu was ever on their mind. I feel like there may be, or should be some regret from the Bassett clan. Seems like they overplayed their hand and had to take next best. Nothing against va tech but they do not sell out a 15k arena, or are called wresletown usa.

Been that way for 10+ years. Iowa is boring. No excitement. Kirk Ferentz and Brands bros should go halfsies on a yacht and sail away.
