If you honestly believe that the state of Iowa was going to give a grant to the University of Iowa for a wrestling facility with all of the other needs in the state, I don't know what to tell you. Besides being political suicide, it does not match the strict criteria. I have no doubt it was looked into and they were told they did not qualify. This goes for your above Federal grant possibility that in no way would be a possibility.Who says it needs to be OSLAD? Given the large number of people that follow Iowa wrestling, one would image there are many possibilities. Here are some Iowa and Federal grants that are targeted toward arenas:
Federal grants
- Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) Grant Program: This program, managed by the Iowa Economic Development Authority, supports the development of multi-purpose attractions and tourism facilities, including potential arena projects, especially when tied to tourism and community revitalization.
- Iowa Great Places Program: This program provides funds for infrastructure projects that enhance the quality of life in designated "Great Places" communities. Arena development could be considered, depending on the project's alignment with the program's goals and its inclusion in the community's Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
- Iowa Reinvestment District Program: This program awards funding to projects demonstrating the potential to boost Iowa's economy and support workforce development, including infrastructure projects like sports stadiums.
- USDA Rural Economic Development Loan & Grant Programs: This program assists rural communities with projects creating jobs and promoting economic growth, potentially including sports and entertainment venues within eligible areas.
