Never. He couldn't even be respectable at Miami.

Him and Farrell are boys. He is just trying to help his friend.

Miami hasn't been respectable since they left the Big East. Coker & Shannon couldn't get it done there either. It's a lady in her early 40s that is in denial she's middle aged.

This is a no-brainer. The guy wants to be here. The guy will keep NJ kids home. The guy will rebuild the defense.

Rebuild defense? What?! His defenses are worse than ours. What a crock.

He is the anti Schiano D. Bend and break, play off coverage, and gives up tons of points. He sucks as a coach in every way. MAC talent at best.

Sure, if you think Indiana is as good as Clemson & Penn State is as good as Florida State then yes, his defense is worse than ours.

You think Golden is the anti Schiano D? I picture Greg watching Flood's D on TV with a tear in his eye just like that old Indian commercial.

I'd take him in a heartbeat..especially this year with all the openings. He'd have success here.

Didn't Golden shun Greg when he was offered a coordinator position when Greg started at RU? Now he wants to come home? I'll take a pass. Rather Rhule at Temple if Flood can't get to six wins to save season and become bowl eligible.

RU fans are amazing. "Fire this guy he can't recruit", "This guy can recruit but he sucks as a coach". "I'm sure Josh McDaniel would work". Like those that think RU should be an annual, serious contender to OSU by now. Really amazing...the self delusion. All the hot prospects are just chomping at the bit to be at RU...come on you can't deny it.....

This would be a horrific hire. Golden could barely reach 6 wins with top 15 recruiting classes in the ACC, what would you expect him to do here? While Miami does have some issues (stadium, facilities, trustees) Dade County is still the best high school football county in the country. He had like 6 guys drafted in the first 3 rounds last year after a 6-7 season and he didn't beat a single team that finished the season ranked at the end of the year. No thanks.

then you can have him when you fire Franklin

There were rumors that he was offered the position before Franklin on the condition he dropped his DC. He either took too long to decide or didn't like the conditions and we moved on. TIFWIW

Run D - RU (47th) Miami (103rd)
Pass D - Miami (63rd) RU (118th)
Total D - Miami (77th) RU (111th)
Team Sacks - Miami (55th) RU (108th)
TFL - RU (63rd) Miami (101st)
TO's - Miami (14th) Rutgers (101st)
Scoring D - Miami (79th) Rutgers (96th)

...so, yeah, neither are good, but at least they force TO's which, my lord, we just don't do at all. That being said I think Clemson puts up 70 on our D.

not sure why you would say that...we won't be looking for a new coach in 2016 like Rutgers will be.....at least, I'm making the assumption Flood won't be around...unless you disagree.

Consequently...Rutgers will be looking and Golden will be available....a notorious recruiter (especially up north) and brings instant credibility (again, gotta drop D'onofrio). plus....he might come cheap (which is quite important for Rutgers) after failing at Miami.

hey...it probably won't happen, but it wouldn't the worst idea for both Rutgers or Al Golden.

I believe he meant you'd be looking a year or two later. A lot of people I know (including some PSU fans) believe the jury is out on Franklin's coaching ability. But no doubt the man can recruit.

For teams like Clemson and Ohio State, putting up 70 on us is not a function of our defense, but a function of when they decide to take the foot off the gas.

And stat comparison means little since there are no common opponent. The two teams are pretty similar. Lost big to 2 Top 5 teams, lost close to Top 12 teams. They went 1-1 vs Cincy and Neb, RU 1-1 vs WSU and Indiana.

If Flood is fired. Hire Golden immediately...................

Thoughts?

I played golf with Golden in North Carolina about 10 years ago. Just happened to be paired with him at a resort course. Was a great guy and enjoyed his company for the first 3 holes. Then he started talking about NJ and Rutgers. Did not have a good thing to say about either. I then told him I am from NJ and went to Rutgers and did not have a similar opinion. Needless to say I think he is a grade A douche that can't coach.

What is amazing is that almost every time a potential head coach is mentioned fans are almost universally opposed. The natural response should be what coach would be a success at Rutgers with all the constraints financially, recruiting wise and statewide support?

There are plenty of candidates that the great majority could rally around,. Golden is already a polarizing figure in NJ circles. Guy grew up in NJ recruited NJ heavily at UVA Temple and Miami and always did it with negative recruiting. I know some coaches on the lower D 1 level. This guy is a grade A A$$hole.

Golden had the following recuriting rankings from 2011 to 2015 according to Rivals:

39, 9, 20, 12, 26.

With that talent he went from 2011 to 2015

6-6, 7-5, 9-4, 6-7, 4-3 in the ACC.

What makes anybody think he would win more games at RU than at Miami, even if he was able to recruit similar talent against similar if not better competition?

Because unless its a Saban or Meyer caliber coach, RU fans want none of it. Like those level of coaches are beating down a door to get hired here. Our best bet for coaching success here is finding a coach who has had success at the next lower level at the college level who wants to jump to the big time. I know for fact Meyer started at a Div 2 school and worked his way up. Get a young guy who is smart and hungry and give him his shot. It requires a lot of due diligence but that is going to be RU's best opportunity for coaching success.

But, the first thing you need is a guy that can recruit Jersey, he can do that...next, he needs to dump his buddy and DC D'onforio, he should do that. If he can do those two things, he could be a winner at Rutgers.

He plays a non aggressive, no blitzing, 10 yards off receivers D. That is a fact. All with Miami talent, to boot. Watch a game and ask any Miami fan their biggest gripe is with him.

If you want GS's D, Golden is the worst choice.
