I hated to be "that guy" that says the Emporer has no clothes, but when exactly is he going to be expected to be at least an average MLB starter? He looks like Aroldis Chapman, and throws nearly as hard as Chapman . . . . but he just is not very good so far.
Michael Lorenzen shut out the Pirates tonight 4-0. He pitched six innings.
5 scoreless innings for Williamson to start so far. 1 hit, 1 BB & 5 K's. Looks like he belongs out there.
I always thought he would be better as a closer than a starter. Which ultimately may be where he ends up if prematurely wears his arm out as a starter.
Next start he’ll give up 8 runs in the first.
Sad that the Reds only have one hit so far themselves tonight.
Give him credit and hope you are wrong. He earned additional starts in Cincinnati and Coors Field is not an easy place to make your MLB Debut.
He more than did his job tonight. Couldn't ask for any more. We all want the Reds to develop for the future and know bullpen games aren't sustainable. There's reason for optimism with this team seeing the 1st position player in the 2021 MLB Draft Debut and the Reds #10 prospect in back to back days. I fully expect Abbott will be here this year as well as EDLC & CES. By the end of the year, should have more than 5 go to options with Ashcraft, Lodolo, Greene, Weaver, Williamson, Stoudt and whenever Abbott arrives.
Didn't see it live but incredible how efficient Williamson was with his pitches. Damn shame he didn't get a win in his MLB debut.

SP Ben Lively when he is was starting for the Bats before being called up was pitching 4-0 2.23 ERA and was averaging 6 or 7 innings a game. I haven't understood bringing Lively in for 2-3 innings like long relief instead of using him as a starter while Lodolo is down. SP Lively was outstanding as a starting pitcher for the Bats.
Then you have 4 or 5 hitters doing outstanding in Louisville. The Bats have Encarnacion-Strand hitting .350 10 homers and 20rbi's, Elly De La Cruz hitting .280 6 homers and 20rbi's, TJ Hopkins hitting .300 6 homers and 18rbi's, Michael Siani 6 homers and 18 rbi's.
The Reds are loaded not just at Louisville in Pitching and Hitting but also at Chatanooga, Dayton, and Daytona.

Just not good enough of a team to contend at this stage of a rebuild. Going about how I expected. There will be glimpses of hope this team will show the potential they could have in a couple of years but more often then not will leave you shaking your head.
Agree. The young players in the farm system give me hope for a pretty good hitting team in a year or two. But the pitching is another story. It's hard to see a contending staff in the near future
Absolutely, would have originally expected the Big 3 as a whole would have progressed further along at this point. It's one thing to have a bad start here or there, drop one at Coors but it appears to just be mounting up as of late dating back before this series. Can't polish that turd no matter how people want to spin it. Reds last 2 quality starts coming from unexpected ones with Weaver & Williamson.
Reds in an interesting predicament: Really need starting pitchers and are going to have to offer probably India and/or TS to get what's needed plus have to make room for younger guys kicking in the door. And trade Senzel before he gets hurt. Unfortunately, doubt the FO is up to it. The next month may be crazy.
Reds should look to add SP/OF help moving the depth of infielders who really don't stand a chance at the MLB level in Cincinnati yet are good enough to make it to MLB. Soon you will have an infield with India, Senzel, Steer, McLain, Barrero, EDLC, CES. Top prospects in Marte, Arroyo, Acosta, Jorge, Collier, Stewart, Cabrera, Balcazar & Callihan. Some of those may not turn out to be All-Stars so why they are still considered top prospects, it's an area the Reds are deep in and need to move them to help in areas this team needs most to become a contender.

Bell gets tossed because he argued the Yankee pitcher should have been tossed with presumably a foreign substance on his hand. Ump merely let Schmidt go back into the clubhouse to wash his hands before the 5th inning. Weird considering the Yankees were just busted for the same thing this week.
TS has hardware in his shoulder from last year's injury...seems to be sapping his power. Reds FO has built a team of singles hitters in a HR ballpark, team's lack of power is disappointing. Young power hitters on the farm are being ignored.
Barrero seems to be handling CF well in his starts and Maile continues to show some power in the last 3 weeks. Most home runs of the Reds catchers. Bullpen depth taken a hit with the injuries lately.
True re Barrero but Bell just couldn't resist getting Fairchild in late. SMH.
