I know he can strike out for a week at a time, but at the moment, EDLC's season projections are:

32 HRs, 115 RBIs, 118 runs scored and currently tied for NL SB lead with 17

I think most teams would be "OK" with that stat line. ;)

PS: The India for Singer trade is looking really good at the moment, even though McLain is having a bad year so far.

Right now I'd keep Lux or Espinal at 2B and only use McClain for defense in late innings like last night. Either that or he needs to go back to AAA and get his bat straightened out.

I like the alternative for routine at-bats in AAA. He won't be able to work through slumps riding the bench. Cincinnati can't keep catering to .183 hitters in the lineup with routine starts going into the summer. Being optioned to AAA will give him the timing he needs to get right and let Lux/Espinal continue to play at 2B. The 3 options players get are there for reasons like this when a player gets behind after missing time, struggling at the MLB level, and give them the opportunity to work through things.

His numbers:
Road: 9 for 82 (.110)
Runners in scoring position: 4 for 38 (.105)
Late & Close: 1 for 32 (.031)
Runners on: 10 for 71 (.141)

Friedl is deserving of an All-Star nod this year and represent the Reds. Andrew Abbott at this pace will be an All-Star. Andrew has given up 1 run or less in every start this year, except his one vs Colorado in Coors Field which happens in that altitude.

EDLC and his popularity could win the most votes outright to be the starter, though beating out Betts and Trea Turner who started last year will be tough. It is not far-fetched to see Elly back in the All-Star Game compared to the other top shortstops in the NL this year, Lindor, Perdomo, Betts, Swanson and Trea Turner. The shortstops on the AS roster last year were Turner, Betts, EDLC and CJ Abrams. Swap Lindor for Abrams, and you will see the other 3 Turner, Betts and EDLC again.

Hunter Greene was well on his way to being an All-Star before the injury. If he picks back up in his next start going 7-8 innings, holding teams to 1 run or less from now until the AS Game while staying healthy, Greene could find himself back in the AS picture. He has work to do.

Greene is great, but still a little off. Actually right now Abbott or even Lodolo deserves an AS nod before Greene. Not saying Greene won’t fully rebound and be dominant, but so far Abbott has been the most solid of a pretty good bunch.

Maybe you missed the part where I said Greene "has work to do" to become an AS this year. Holding teams to 1 run or less, go deep into games such as 7-8 innings from now to the All-Star Game is a way to separate himself from the pack which would be hard to ignore. That would help make up for the lost time, and most importantly Greene staying healthy. 5 innings and 2 runs in his previous start against a winning team in the postseason last year like the Royals isn't really 'off'. If Lodolo is deserving of an All-Star nod, Nick Martinez is having nearly the same season picking up off last year with a few ups and downs like Lodolo. 6 consecutive quality starts for Martinez. I already said Andrew Abbott should be an All-Star in the 2nd sentence of the paragraph you quoted. If you took that as Greene was more deserving of being selected over him, then you read it completely wrong.

The Reds need to acquire a reliever to come in these high-leverage situations and get the job done. Ashcraft is better off in middle relief to pick up multiple innings and not coming in when the game is on the line. Santillan has been shaky lately and he's given up 6 runs over 3 1/3 innings in his last 5 appearances. Suter is the most effective reliever they have in the bullpen where you know what he is going to give you on a nightly basis. I like his role as a bulk reliever eating some innings, and he has been useful opening games.

Bringing back Lyon Richardson was a smart decision, but he's most useful to the Reds with his durability pitching 3-4 innings. Rogers is getting older and allows many inherited runners on base to score when he comes into the game. Scott Barlow has been better over the last couple of weeks, and he has closing experience. Reds have to make a decision to activate Wade Miley tomorrow, or opt out as his rehab assignment time is up. He has struggled immensely. So has Lowder.

If he's healthy, and certainly appears to be, it's time for him to play every day. And for the rest of the season. If his numbers suck by season's end, then it's time to consider writing him off. But, for now- he needs at bats in Cincinnati.

CES home run last night, walk-off today when the game resumed and just hit another one out in game two of the series. Cincinnati needs a jolt in the lineup. Lets hope he can stay healthy and sustain production in the lineup now that he is back. It would be great to see the lineup healthy and take the field together whenever Hays and Marte rejoin. Jeimer Candelario is getting closer to a return. Cincinnati would be better off doing to Candelario what they did with Wil Myers a couple of yeas ago. Let him finish the rehab, get healthy and eat the remainder of the contract. Cut him loose once the rehab assignment ends.

I just had a marketing idea for the Reds. Instead of a Bobblehead night, have a Chris Sabo Gogglehead night. Give away free replica Chris Sabo goggles and everybody wear them during the game. Then honor him that night. They could have kids size and adult size to give out.

I have to say for someone at the tail end of their career like Wade Miley, he did his job last night earning the win, pitching 5 innings and 3 runs in his start. CES 8 for 17, 3 HRs and 7 RBIs since coming off the IL. A healthy CES at his peak gives the Reds the power bat in the middle of the lineup they have been needing. This looks more like the CES we saw during his 2023 call up.

Complete game shutout for Abbott. Held them to 3 hits and 1 walk. Bounced back after the KC start. Having a damn good season this year!

All-Star season right now as it stands. Maybe in contention for Cy Young award if he keeps it up. I know he has to come back to earth and will still have some off games. but if he can bounce back like that after having a sub-par game, then He should be up there in that consideration.

Sounds like Greene may be out a while....uhhhhhgain. He's another that could be a Cy Young contender if he could just manage to put together a complete season. Having a sore back to go with his groin, isn't a positive sign. Decided to go to LA to get a second opinion. Guess he's done trusting the Red's Docs.

Hope Lodolo can come out and get the Ohio Cup sweep today.

Reds burn upon reentry...11-2 Final, Cleveland gets their 1st win over the Reds on the year, and Lodolo lifted before even getting through the 4th.

The irony of Lodolo is he hasn't even had one of his multiple DL stint blisters yet and looks durable compared to Greene, Rhett Lowder and Abbott who was a late arrival which I guess sums up Reds' fandom in a nutshell. The Reds look like they have a deep rotation, they just don't actually pitch.

If the Reds can’t depend on supposed studs like Greene and Lodolo then they will never take the next step. Probably ever. Maybe Lowder will live up to expectations

FO needs to fix this putrid offense. Absolutely humiliated last night. Pathetic outing from Martinez to implode for 10 runs. Zero excuse to lost at home to Miami.

This is who they are as predicted. Not sure why anyone thought they were actually contenders. Given they do not have anyone on the team who is an actual "star", their record can be attributed to Abbott's fluke first half for the most part.

Martinez is proving his $21M re-tread contract was a bust from the start. 5 of his last 7 starts he has been pounded.

Elly has a couple of strong weeks and everyone goes nuts. Never mind his month of May was horrible. He is now 7 for his last 31 and hasn't had an EBH in 51 AB's.

The Reds could not have asked for a better week of baseball on the schedule leading up to the All-Star Break to build momentum. Split the series with the Marlins, drop Game 1 to a Rockies team with the worst record of all-time going into All-Star week. Losing to the teams the Reds should beat has become the norm for them. Such a joke. The Reds need to find themselves someone other Santillan in the 8th inning setup role.

They're back to "They're who they are." which seems to be 500. I mean they win series on the road vs. 500+ teams & can't win at home vs. 500- teams. At this point, they wouldn't be wrong to start selling players imo.
