I think that games 2-4 will be good games.

Bird needs for Payoute to play like an all american. Freeman is quality but I'll take Bird. Bird could win this by 3 TD's or lose. I think if Freeman wins it will have to be a nail biter.

Henrico against Varina -- I think I will lean towards Henrico. That offense has to start clicking on all cylinders one of these days. Also, I think Henrico is the only team that could potentially make a game of it with HSHS if they can play mistake free.

I think I will take Glen Allen in the upset. Their QB is mobile and is a pretty good athlete. Their TB Devin Flowers is good but little too wheel barrow-ly for me at times. I'd like to see him be a little more agile. Not sure about Atlee but I have been on the GA train since June so why jump off now.

I don't talk about my team much, but we must play smart and physical football. The rain may help us out a little. Our running game is solid, so if its wet I like our chances. Freeman has been wishy washy all season, so I dont know which team to expect. Highland Springs will have no problem and like you @mbonape1 I like Glen Allen in an upset. Again the weather favors Glen Allen. Henrico will defeat Varina by at least two touchdowns. They are too good to falter here. If Henrico and Bird advance I honestly think we have a shot. We scrimmaged the Warriors and they don't put a lot of fear in my heart.

#1 v #8 - we don't need to talk about. Just hope our guys can make a good showing and come out of this game healthy.
#2 v #7 - Bird is suspect to me. Though have not always won pretty in the past, I feel like they have struggled against some lesser competition this season. Freeman has the ability to score quickly and Pat Taylor can hurt you in various ways. I'm tempted to take DF in the upset.
#3 v #6 - Henrico has been a little erratic again this season. Varina played HS tougher than I thought they would and without all the turnovers its a closer game. I think the Blue Devils can bounce back from the loss and get payback on the Warriors.
#4 v #5 - Not sure what Tyler Warren's status is for Atlee, but I think Glen Allen is the better team. It's a shame GA didn't get the home game, but I will take the lower seed in this one as well.

Springer76 do you think Bird ramps it up now that it's playoff time? I can certainly see them doing what Bird does and that being enough to beat Freeman. But what have you seen that make you pick them over Varina? I don't feel like their schedule was any tougher than it has been in the past and they scraped by in games they normally have romped. Comparing Bird's matchup with Manchester with HS v Varina, it seems like the Devils made a game of it while the Lancers smacked the Skyhawks.

#1, Bird has Payoute back at QB! He is a big difference maker for them. #2 Troy Taylor, Great coach! When he was at MBK, he always played HSHS tough! #3 Bird's O Line and their running attack + Payoute = A much more dynamic offense. I think if Bird and Varina plays, it will be a defensive struggle for a while. Then the best offense will reveal it's self!!!That's what happened Saturday against HSHS! Defensive struggle in the 1st half (HS played like crap too). I think Coach J layed into their butts behind closed doors and they came out looking like a different team in the 3rd qtr!! The better offense revealed it's self in the 2nd half of this game. (the Springers' defense is REAL GOOD too)..
Varina will have their QB back too this week. That will make them a bit of a different team against Henrico. Varina's defense is better than Henrico's. That's why I pick them over Henrico!!
I feel confident that Bird will take down Freeman. A Bird vs Henrico or Varina will be a great game!!!!

Obviously it is insane to pick against the Springers.

Like so many have eluded to, a healthy Bird should top Freeman but if Bird shows some of the inconsistency we have seen this season, than I do believe Freeman could spring the upset. Bird's defense must find a way to deal with Pat Taylor who makes plays all over the field but then again Freeman's D must find a way to deal with Payoute and Tre Mason who is just a junior but is pretty legit in the run game.

Henrico v. Varina, the first meeting was a nail biter at the end. Odds are it will not finish that way again. It helps that Henrico is at home and it helps Varina that they got Dwayne Taylor back at QB. If Henrico can play a defensive game similar to what the Springers did against Varina, then I have no doubt Henrico can take this one. However that 1-point loss to Henrico I'm sure leaves a bitter taste in the Blue Devils mouth and with a poor showing against Highland Springs, I believe they will be out to make some noise.

I do like Glen Allen against Atlee, I think the two are similar in offense but Glen Allen feels like they have played better from start to finish, Atlee seemed to falter a bit in the latter part of the season.

We can talk region semifinals after this week.

So regarding Bird... Yes they are better when healthy for sure. A lot of those games they were nursing injury and even the games where they were healthy they still had the governor on Payoute and that offense. If they are going to make noise they need to just let him go wild if he is healthy. Big players make big plays in big games. I would like to see them just give it to him in the shotgun and throw to Mikey or Jamon Battle, if it isn't there just take off. Hell, look to take off first. Put some pressure on the outside. Bird has excellent speed but they seldom get to use it. If they could just get something going on the perimeter or downfield they would be very dangerous and find way more success on the inside. I say they should just put Payoute in the shotgun, forget the play action... takes to long and just takes away his speed advantage. Catch that shotgun and adlib from there. He maybe the fastest player in the state at 6'3 210lbs. They should beat Freeman either way, but I think they need to open it up more to win the next one after that. Where did the team that beat Dale go? No better time to resurface then right now!

We forget if it wasn't a one point loss to DF, Glen Allen would be 9-1! GA problem against Monacan was they just flat out couldn't defend our passing game. Not sure if they have played another team that can throw it well this season but it was problematic for them in game 2.

I haven't seen GA this year... if they wind up against the Springers and can't defend the pass..... they're in big trouble!

The Capital District is significally tougher than the Colonial. In my mind a GA win would be an upset. Maybe not on paper, but historically speaking.

Man, we rushed for 345 yards. Our freshman running back Ramon Brown rushed for 180, Mason 145 and Payoute busted them for 85. We were up 35-7 at half and you cant make that deficit up without passing. Our defense played very well and limited them to under 170 yards of offense. Typical LC Bird football. Henrico, is going to be tougher, but the loss of their qb gonna make them a little more predictable. Just finished a 7 hour film session. We scrimmaged them so there aint no suprises. We can get em.

With Jones I would tend to favor Henrico but without him, they are still a good squad but he added a dimension to their game as the best player on the field with that athleticism that is tough to makeup for.
