
Sussex Central's Trevon Hatch finds daylight behind a wall of Tiger blockers.
SUSSEX- Greensville County came in having found their offensive rhythm and had been a nightmare for all other opponents in Tri-Rivers district. The turnaround had put the Eagles in position to compete for the district title and a chance to improve their playoff seeding. Their rhythm however became a bit off key versus the Sussex Central defense.
The Tiger defense stopped the Eagle offense early in the game and would do so often. Strong running by An’Tae Motton propelled the Tigers into a highly productive first half. Quarterback Malik Delk would battle across from 3 yards out and would get the conversion to make it 8-0 Tigers. Early in the 2nd quarter, Delk would go in from 5 yards out to give Sussex Central a 14-0 lead with 11:45 left before halftime.
On defense, the Tigers defense was grounding the Eagle air attack. Shutdown corner Tyrese Rose was matched up head-to-head on Greensville’s top receiver Jordan Peebles. Peebles was completely shutdown in the 1st half.
When Sussex Central got the ball back Trevon Hatch would dash in for a 7 yard run tapping off a solid drive. Clyde Edmonds would make a solid catch from Delk on the conversion giving Sussex Central a 22-0 lead at the 4:22 mark in the 2nd. Hatch would answer again with 0:42 seconds left in the quarter from 11-yards out to give the Tigers a 28-0 lead at the half.

Greensville's Naquan Jordan could not escape the Tigers Amari Hill for a loss.
No scoring in the 3rd by either team after an extended homecoming halftime break. The Tigers would answer with the longest touchdown run of the night from 23 yards out from running back Mack Prosise. The Tigers would go up 34-0 in the 4th.
Greensville would get in as an interception was never to be as Tyquon Jones would snatch the ball away from a defenders finger tips and race 42 yards for the touchdown to prevent the shutout victory for the Tigers.
Motton would have 20 carries for 200 yards to lead the Sussex Central rushing attack. The team total was 336 yards rushing. Rose had 6 breakups in the secondary for the Tigers.

Region A's top receiver Jordan Peebles was denied the endzone in this contest.
Greensville’s Peebles did have better success in the 2nd half getting 4 catches for 76 yards. Quarterback Shyheim Anderson was 9 of 24 for 150 yards and a touchdown.
Greensville (5-4) will now face another rival in Brunswick (4-4) at home to lock up their playoff spot.
Sussex Central (7-2) will travel to Surry County (2-7) who is coming off a 36-0 lost to Brunswick. Sussex Central has a chance to jump Franklin for the #4 seed and a possible bye. Rappahannock who is also in the race will be underdogs versus Essex Friday.

The Cavaliers only had 17 offensive plays on the night as a running clock was requested late in the 1st quarter and 8 minute 2nd half quarters. Lafayette Pendleton had 2 carries for 101 yards and 2 touchdowns. Pendleton also caught 3 passes for 121 yards and 2 additional touchdowns all from Ryan Huffman. Huffman also hit Alex Carter on an 11 yard strike to give him 3 touchdown passes on the night from 7 of 10 passing and 143 yards.

Quarterback Darrien Duck would hit top Bronco receiver Natron Lee for a 51 yard touchdown pass and from there it was all Franklin. Franklin’s defense held Windsor to 21 total yards on the night. They also recovered 2 of 7 fumbles forced to go along with 3 interceptions. The Broncos will wrap up their regular season hosting rival Southampton.

Cecil Tyler was the heartbreaker for Mathews Friday night.
CHARLES CITY 38 MATHEWS 32
The Panthers scored with 4 seconds remaining in the game off a Cecil Tyler run to knock off the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils couldn’t hold on as they rallied to take the lead in the 4th. Mathews who had held the 12th seed may now have to upset Middlesex in order to secure a spot in the post season. Mason Jefferson rushed for 241 yards and passed for 202 yards for 5 total touchdowns on the night.
