I remember all the similar greener pasture stories that came out when he left for Florida. Look how that worked out for him. I agree about Rich Rodriguez, heck Michigan is already to send him packing and bring in Harbaugh. I hope that Mullen thinks of us as his Boise where he can build a legacy and have tons of stuff named after him some day.

Despite your recent struggles, and especially at the time it wasn't greener pastures. No East school, outside of South Carolina, can really claim a higher prestige or better program than any West program in baseball, except maybe Auburn.

In football, Miami is a better program than MSU with a better chance at titles, and a higher prestige job.

It still doesn't always work out when a guy leaves for a "better" job. There are plenty of examples. There are also examples of coaches staying too long and no longer being able to command the big money on the market.

I think Les Miles for instance was wise to jump from Okie State when he did. Gundy has done a very good job there, but I don't think Miles would've ever had a shot at a job like LSU again had he not taken it when he did.

Coaches just have to be smart about it and make sure they take advantage when their value is at its peak, but also they have to make sure they jump to the right job that's a good fit when they do make the move. Rich Rod, for instance, would probably be a much better fit in the SEC. He made his jump to the wrong school. I know there were other things going on at WVU when he made that move. He was right in taking advantage of his value being at its peak. He just jumped at the wrong job.

I do think he will leave at the first opportunity, but I don't see one out there for him at this point. That's not a slam on Ole Miss -- I just think he's a snake oil salesman, all hype and no substance, and if he sees an opportunity he'll bolt. If he can leave and go somewhere with less immediate pressure to succeed, my money is on him doing it. I obviously don't have a stake in it, I just don't like the guy -- and I'm saying that I wouldn't like him if I were an Ole Miss fan, not "I don't like him because he's the OM coach".

I was shocked that Nix wasn't fired on Sunday, to (a) distract your fans from the loss and (b) take the heat off of himself this offseason. The only thing I can figure is that he's seeing if he can squeeze ooooone more year out of the current staff, then make a change after next year if they don't win. The longer he puts off firing his staff, the longer he can stretch his own contract out.

Just my take on it, but again, I don't like the guy, so I can probably be accused of being overly cynical.

I could be wrong, but I think the opposite may be true with regards to his staff.

I would think throwing a few guys under the bus would probably increase his chances of buying himself a tough year next year, if it doesn't turn out well for him.

I would think keeping the exact same staff with no changes would virtually make 2011 a make or break year for him. That's why I assumed for sure he'd make some changes.

He may still be planning on it. It wouldn't surprise me if he tried to wait until after signing day to make changes, or if he was letting his guys try to find other jobs, so that he doesn't have to fire them.

Who knows what is really going on, but I feel like he would do better to make changes if he's hoping to milk time out of this gig.
