...with no really apparent future as an SEC player, to someone who will be held in high esteem among State fans for years to come. Good for him.

He could have folded a few times this season and last, but the dude has shown a hell of a lot of guts and coachability.

Not too bad fora guy who supposedly can't throw the ball. I think it's time to retire that label for him. He's a completely different player than he was when Mullen took over.

Mr. Relf needs to learn to stay in the pocket instead of gallopinout like a dadgum show pony.
I thought he did an excellent job today at just that. He was very, very patient in the pocket and only used his feet (aside from designed plays) to keep a play alive.

... But this is the first game he did just that. Early this season I would agree, but starting with the Arkansas game he has been on par with running the ball.

Relf made some actual qb decisions today. Scrambled when necessary, threw it away if he had to, but ran when all check downs were covered. His mental game has come a long way.

I thought he was hoppin around like there was bouncin betty was in the pocket. He lacked pocket sense. Trust me, I coach high school ball, and have a good eye for pocket sense among other things

Oh yeah? How many of your QB's you've coached play at the D1 level? Relf's pocket presence today was incredible. He did some Drew Brees shiznit with the juking in and out of DE's who came into the pocket without even looking around. Pocket presence.

Maybe you're missing the point. Relf is a dual threat QB. He's suppose to run.

I actually coached Drew Brees, Wade Darnell, Roach Jackson, Tony Romo's little brother Barrett, Wyatt Holloway, Palmer Jones, Pistol Arnold, Big Frank Mackenzie among others.

There really is no other word for it. I saw his stats from his freshman year- he went something like 2 for 9 on the season. It was just awful. This fall, he went 4/10 on a scrimmage. He also couldn't clearly beat out Tyson Lee last year or Tyler Russell for the job this year- remember the two QB system at the beginning of the year?

And this is a guy that played in the wishbone at some ghetto high school in Montgomery, Alabama. I thought he would end up at TE- if he could catch the ball, or some other position. So, he had zero coaching in high school, and zero coaching from Croom and McCorvey for two years.

So, Dan Mullen gets ahold of this guy, and now he has turned him into a pretty good QB. And that's remarkable. Sure, there are some things that Relf could do better, but considering how far he has come, it's pretty amazing.

Now, he's the MVP of the Gator Bowl and basically the guy you would pick if you needed to beat Ole Miss.

This shouldn't happen. But it has. Relf should have long gone to pasture and be slinging it at some SWAC school. But that's inconceivable now. You have to credit Dan Mullen for this- a lot.

And here's what's exciting to me- what can Dan with someone that hasn't had all of the disadvantages that Relf had? Think about that.

Yes, I thought that was his biggest area of improvement in this game. He did a great job of staying calm in the pocket, feeling when pressure was there, and getting away.

I can't say it any better than that.

Imagine what Dan can do with a more prototypical QB. A Tyler Russell perhaps. :)

High school he played in a running offense then first 2 years in college under Woody McCorvey and the Croom Coast offense. I think he has room for even more improvement which bodes well for next year. If he works hard in the offseason on both the physical part as well as the mental part he can lead us to big things next year.

Re-watch that game and you'll be blown away by the difference between the first and second halves. We dominated the second half, but were losing at half-time.
