It’s almost like changing a problematic coach who isn’t getting you anywhere is a good thing…
Which is what a BUNCH of us said. And yet there were even people on this board that said it would never happen. Some even dunked on Stein when he was hired.

Mediocrity doesn't have to be accepted. It can be changed. And sure....it doesn't always work out. But you keep freaking trying.

It's almost like a lot of dingleberries on here forget that problematic coach, took over a 2 win team loaded with MAC talent and turned in 2 10 win seasons, ended the Florida streak and built the foundation that Stein is standing on. And did that without the portal and NIL.

And people didn’t want to fire Mark Stoops, lol. Stoops had some good moments, but he was not a good football mind. Even 12 years into it he was making basic mistakes.
No it was time for Stoops to go, but too many people on here act like he didn't accomplish anything while he was here.

Brook started it... Joker almost ruined it... And Stoops built us back to be atleast talked about positively again.. Nothing but respect for Stoops. But he had reached his potential, and it was time to part ways stien is taking over a drastically diffrent program that Brook, and Stoops took over... Im loving Stien, but give Stoops his flowers as well.

He had 2 good seasons out of 12 with a down SEC East and an extra gimme game. While Stoops had some good moments, he was vastly overpaid and overrated by many here. I think a lot of coaches could have done a better job and Stein is proving it.

I want to go on a Stoops/Pope rant, but anyone watching this game should realize how significant of a culture change a coach can bring to a program YEAR 1. It doesn’t take longer than that in this current college sporting world. But let Stein’s success press that point I’m trying to make. It. Doesn’t. Take. Longer. Than. A. Year. Not for Stoops; not for Cal; not certainly for Pope. It’s now. Immediately.

We’re seeing it with Stein; we’re seeing it with Cignetti at Indiana; Chesney at UCLA, Dusty May at Michigan. You don’t learn success on the job. You either bring it or you don’t.

2006 Coach Brooks defeated a Matthew Stafford Georgia led team. That UK team layed the foundation. Yes Joker about destroyed that foundation! But that 2006 team went on to a 6-6 record and our first bowl game in years!

All the respect and props to Stoops, but he got content and was going through the motions the last couple years. He had did what he wanted and was already halfway out the door. Great full for his time here for sure but like you said it was time to go. It’s all good. Stoops is always a Wildcat as far as I’m concerned.

It was the "pony up" comment that doomed him. You can't claim to be blue collar and like the fans and then turn on the fan base like that. Just can't. I guarantee Stein doesn't have Bama, LSU, TAMU NIL money and yet we beat two of those dudes.

Stoops was playing 90s style FB in the NIL era. That was the problem.

WHAT Are you smoking dude. " Built the foundation" like not winning an SEC home game for nearly 3 years or perhaps the highest turnover and penalty in SEC the last 2 years or maybe having players going to the concession stand and getting hot dogs DURING THE GAME. In what universe can you see somebody from a Stein coached team doing that. He padded his record each year playing tomato cans. He SUCKED at the end of his career here and left the cupboard completely bare for Stein. I might also add he coached for 2 years with NIL in place and they were the worst of his career. Get real man!

Those same guys are the same guys telling you to give Pope more time. Don't forget it, either.
Stein could lose out and end up 7-5 and I’d still say there is no excuse for Pope with the resources he has to not be among upper echelons of the SEC and make a deep run in the tournament. If Stein can win this many games with the 2nd lowest NIL budget, there’s no way Pope should not be a top 10 team with one of the highest NIL budgets in the country.

Stein will at the very least go 5-4 in the SEC this year. That’s already .556 in the SEC with one of the conference’s lowest budgets.

Pope is averaging 10-8 or .556 in the SEC the last two seasons with one of its highest budgets
