Research breakthrough on Delta variant

So first paragraph from article says
“A new study shows the Delta Covid-19 variant produced similar amounts of virus in vaccinated and unvaccinated people if they get infected -- illustrating a key motivation behind the federal guidance that now recommends most fully vaccinated Americans wear masks indoors.”

So we are masking up for something that spreads easily (maybe). I assume it had dire consequences for those that it spread to..that is what they were telling us. But read the rest of the article:

“The study, published by CDC Friday, describes 469 Massachusetts residents who were infected in a July outbreak in Barnstable County, which includes the summer vacation destination Provincetown. No deaths were reported among them.”

Catch that last line..0 deaths.

Almost all viruses, when they mutate, become more contagious and less deadly. The virus is trying to stay alive thus it doesn't kill as many hosts. If you want to follow the science, THAT's the science. It's unlikely that the Delta variant (or any other) will have near the mortality numbers as the original.

This is not necessarily true. This virus has no problem staying alive because the incubation period is long enough where regardless of how deadly it is, the host will pass it along well before they die. In this case there is no evolutionary pressure causing less deadly strains to win out.

And the raw death rate could be lower with Delta (time will tell), but if its transmission rate is much higher it could cause more people to have Covid at one time and stress the hospital system. This could result in more deaths than it should.

The virus isn't "trying" to do anything. The mutations are random.

I see this claim *all* the time (on here, on Facebook, on other forums). It's a misrepresentation of "the science."

Is your point that vaccines work in preventing death?

No that wasn’t my point. My point was that CDC was trying to use this study to justify their masking mandate by saying it spread like crazy but the interesting part was that their were 0 deaths. 0 deaths was my point among vaccinated and unvaccinated. Yet we are masking like crazy and considering more lockdowns. I got the vaccine but was hesitant and at times still question my decision. Ultimately I believe each individual should be given choice to do what is best for them based on their research and unique situation..whether that is masking in schools, public , or vaccinations.

Gubner Andy is itching so hard to reinstate the mask mandate. Already did on government jobs and buildings. He misses his daily pressers about covid.
He felt like a rockstar, drunk from power; same as Fauci.

"Tune in Kentucky to decide if I let you work, go to school, wear a mask or not wear a mask, get to see loved ones, get to enjoy those athletic seasons, or have any gatherings. I am GOD!"

Any politician who can do this is a tyrant. This guy had state troopers going to church parking lots to monitor people...AND THEY DID IT. How is that remotely okay? How does that not set off alarm bells to even the most naive?

Why are you keying in on 0 deaths? How about keying in on numbers of people that get really, really sick, miss work, or wind up in a hospital bed? I don’t know about you, but I don’t like being really, really sick. That’s why I’m immunized against most illnesses, I get an annual flu shot, and I got my two covid shots.

WSJ version today says most caught it in crowded in-door bars. P-town a well-known gay hotspot - so to speak. Probably lots of slobbering going on.

CDC pushing fearporn with this.

Facts about the vaccine.

Still 8x less likely to catch the delta variant than somebody not vaccinated
If you do catch it you're probably not going to develop symptoms or only develop symtpoms.

If you happen to develop symptoms you're almost certainly not going to the hospital or die.

This delta variant is spreading rapidly. Whereas surges before the vaccine would usually last 2 or 3 months, most think we are near or at the peak of this surge and it will be gone by September if not before. Another step closer to herd immunity.

REgarding the cdc "study".

They left out a key factor.

What % of unvaccinated people got the virus out of the "group"? Likely 100%.

Further, they didn't say how many had been exposed. If you have 80% or 90% of a large group of people who are exposed that are vaccinated, of course some of them are going to catch it. Nobody every said the vaccines work 100% of the time.

Let's say the entire group was 2,000 people. 469 people catch it. Of those 2,000, 1,800 are vaccinated and 200 aren't. 469 (nice) catch it. 200 aren't vaccinated and 100% catch it. 269 are vaccinated and catch it.

It still shows that the vaccines work well.

Those who want to create fear porn and those who want to bash the vaccines keep pointing to the % of cases in Israel who are vaccinated.

Of course they're going to have a large group of their cases among the vaccinated. Almost all of their adults are vaccinated. Duh. What those who want us to shut down or want to bash the vaccines don't tell you is that they are stopping a ton of transmission. If you look at israel's overall case count, despite having had the delta variant around for a while their cases are still very low.

Because they hated Trump and anyone associated with him. They would not care if anyone who voted for Trump was inprisoned. Hate like I have never witnessed.

You're such a good boy. Yeah nobody ever got really, really sick before covid. Just amazing the menatlity of some.

Everybody should obey without question. Never think for yourself. Never doubt the government. Good grief. Plenty of sheep for these wolves to feed on.

Ive been tested 5 times. never did they tell what variant I had. Where on the test does it tell you what variant it is?

It doesn’t. Has to be sent to a special lab to be genetically sequenced. Only certain labs and universities are even checking for variants.

you have to have isolated the “variant “ in question and sequence each protein / portion of the virus first i believe

then you develop a test protocol to identify that variant in the field

that takes some time

my understanding is that no one is actually testing for the delta variant -

which means they MAY just be referring to the presence of protein spikes in vaccinated ppl as “the variant “

it’s as much of a clown show rodeo as everything that’s come. before this moment i guess

sure seems like a disorganized response or very poor communication about the facts - or both ....this lady actually appears surprised that she’s having to address a very basic and important element of our public health response here

the clip - someone asking a USG rep how we’re actually screening/testing for “delta variant “

Good on Axios for tweeting this out, although I'd like to see an equivalent chart on the unvaxxed for comparison. Either way, this shows that the vaccine works.

Too bad most media outlets like CNN and the NYT would rather fear-monger for clicks even though it only serves to add fuel to the "see, the vaccine doesn't work" fire.

Axios. Hahahahahahaha

Do you have another source that disputes what they tweeted? Just giving credit where credit's due, man. They could have easily followed the lead of many other outlets on this topic. That doesn't mean I'm some Axios fanboy. I just call it like I see it.
