Could we be the 3-seed in Hattiesburg?

I could see that or Ole Miss as the 2-seed in Hattiesburg.

If USM hosts and OM does not, those two being paired together seems more likely than us in Hattiesburg. You could also see Bama or Florida in Hattiesburg if they don’t host.

We aren't doing squat in a regional anyway. Win a game maybe.
But we have all our pitchers rested up and the Regionals Just Mean More.....or is that the SEC Just Means More....err forget about it.

Rumor is Reese to LSU is a done deal. Gonna suck if true.
And yet another example of how FBS sports have been ruined. I just don't see this as sustainable. I was a truly diehard fan...had been for 45+ years. Now it's hard to give much of a damn.

As I've said before, we've lost what made D1 sports special and better than pro sports..that is the "we/us as opposed to them" element. Even knowing many players were getting paid under-the-table before, we still had at least some connection to the athletes as "one of us". We could believe they wanted to be a part of us and share the love & loyalty we have for our university.

Now we can't. They are no more a part of the former "us" as are the maintenance crews, bus drivers, teachers, administrators, etc. Hell, we have a closer connection to the student volunteer "managers" who collect & wash dirty uniforms than we do the athletes. There is no room even for self-delusion.

Beyond that, even if you could somehow muster a false sense of connection to any athlete on our team, it would most likely be because they have performed well enough to move on to the best offer from any other school.

Sure, there are exceptions...players who may well be here because they want to be here. But how do we as fans know which they are really? And how many times do we need to get burned before we just stop giving a damn?

I remain so grateful we won our NC in baseball before all this BS had a chance to make an impact. It's not cheapened. It's real & honest. Those players were "us", not them or mostly employees. I honestly would not care much about winning one with guys who are here mostly for the $.

If I want to cheer for professional, semi-unrestricted players & teams, there are much better options, such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. Why invest our energy & passion in an inferior product when there is little else to distinguish it from the aforementioned?

I've already begun to care more about the sports that don't likely have hired guns filling the rosters. But even some of those are getting screwed up by universities and fanbases who don't mind buying as much success as they can in any & every sport. LSU is a prime example, IMO. Buying championship-caliber athletes for even the sports that will never approach making a profit because they can financially and they care more about winning at all costs than they do any noble spirit of true, fair competition.

Personally, even if we could do it financially, I just wouldn't care about the results. What's the real accomplishment then? Do our "heroes" become the financiers?...the contract negotiators?

I think the only way this gets saved is when enough fans lose interest that the media loses interest because the advertisers lose interest in putting marketing $ into a shrinking audience. But will it come too late? It's harder to create the passion we've had than it is to maintain it.

LSU has been starting early - rumor they had sealed up the basketball player that went there well before our season was finished.

I’ve found myself caring less this summer than I ever have before

Yeah, he already transferred to us from Houston, no way he sticks around. Hope I'm wrong.
Talked to some LSU players parents in Hoover. They also say it’s a done deal and weren’t very happy about it. Appearantly the heir apparent at third is well liked and they feel that he’s getting a raw deal.

I wish there was a way to prove this and punish them if so. There has to be punishment for tampering. However we know that it won't happen. Mullen tried and look at the toll it took on Lewis. Ncaa is worthless. Just collects a checks and they get a huge salary for doing nothing. I really hope the SEC and big10 gets greedy and knocks them out the way.
