To make this sports related, I'm going to the US Indoor tennis tournament Thursday and Friday. Any recommendations for a good place to eat Thursday night?

go to Acre in east memphis

Wally Joe is excellent at the craft and you will not be disappointed. Awesome food and awesome environment. I highly recommend it.

Acre Restaurant

ETA: Wally Joe is a Mississippi guy, started and ran KC's in Cleveland with his brother for years before setting out on his own.

I dont know where you are staying but here are some places along Poplar Ave.

Houston's
Humdingers (good for lunch)
Las Tortugas (Mexicana Grill) very very good Mexican food made by a man with years of experience from Mexico City. It isn't your typical Mexican restaurant.

There is also the stand by Ruth's Chris and just down the street is Flemings.

Hog and Hominy

Houston's is one of my favorite places to eat, but you have to wait (there's always a wait). So if you go there, make a reservation.

Hog and Hominy is a great place. I've tried something different every time I've gone, and I haven't been disappointed yet. Really good drink menu too.

Couple more off the top of my head are PF Chang's and the Half Shell.

I second Hog and Hominy. As mentioned, great food and good drink menu, including Pappy Van Winkle. GQ recently named it one of their 12 (I think?) most notable restaurants of the year.

Restaurant Iris. Get the pairing. Maybe a little farther west than you want (Cooper Young area) but I drive out there from Collierville to eat.

I don't really have anything different to add, but this one is in my wheelhouse so I'll contribute:

Upscale Dinner: $25+ / plate
* Acre is the best restaurant in East Memphis. They execute some great dishes consistently.
* Andrew Michael's is a close second. They guys that run this place are more creative. They have some misses, but very few. They own Hog and Hominy across the street.
* Erling Jensen: This place is often forgotten about, but really divine. Probably the most expensive of all the options.
* River Oaks: I've only eaten here for lunch. I hear good things, but it would not be my first choice.
* You can walk to Interim and it is decent, but not great.
* Folk's Folly is the quintessential steak house, but not my speed.

Mid-range Dinner: $15+ / plate (not a lot in this range, more of a mid-town thing)
* Hog and Hominy: This place is nationally recognized, low-key, creative, and excellent, but not for vegetarians or anyone on a diet
* Buckley's: This place is what it is. It's an old Memphis mid-range steak house. I love it, but temper your enthusiasm.
* Swanky's Tacos: It's like a Chipotle, only more comfortable and with a bar. The food is not excellent but I like the atmosphere and the drinks.

If you only have one night and don't want to do fancy, go to Hog and Hominy.

Interim has a great burger if you're into the upscale burger thing.

Erling Jensen is excellent but a little overrated in my opinion.

Houston's, Folk's Folly, Fox &Hound, Napa Cafe, and several others are pretty much within walking distance of the Racquet Club.

I'd go w/ Houston's
