2nd on Camilla's for lunch. I like Coop's Place for dinner. Inexpensive and excellent. Cool little place that isn't in a rowdy part of the quarter. If you go chain, I like Copeland's Cheesecake Bistro on St. Charles. Al Copeland corporate owned restaurants in N.O. are good.

even Popeye's

The times I've been it's been good. Get in, get out pretty quick. But the times I went, it wasn't crowded in town, so maybe that had something to do with it. It's also been a couple of years since I've been.

Everybody needs to quit telling people about Cochon. It's a ***** to get reservations as it is.

Felix's

For Oysters. It's on Bourbon, same street as Acme.

Make sure you stand at the counter....you'll get nothing but select.

Speaking of which, just about everything is cash-only down there, to where it can be a culture shock for an out-of-towner. Take a lot of cash, or be prepared to make stops at ATMs and Walgreens.

Don't have a single "best of".

Shrimp - guys
oysters - casimentos
roast beef - Tracy's. (used to be at parasols)
alligator sausage ( cooter browns with shrimp on top)
bbq shrimp (liuzzas by the track, not even close)
duck (crabby jacks)

Casamento’s - 4330 Magazine St., New Orleans,504.895.9761

Good list, just keep in mind that Casamento's is closed during months without an R.

The roast beef "scraps" po-boy is over-rated. The fried chicken is absolutely kickass. Problem is, they cook it after you order it, so it takes 20 minutes longer, and the staff acts half torqued at you for slowing down the line. Worth the wait--good as any fried chicken in Mississippi.

Pascal's Manale on Napolean in the Garden District. BEST barbequed shrimp on the planet. (I think they actually invented it). BEST oysters on the half-shell in the bar while you wait. Children will be welcome there and adults will LOVE IT!!! Also, Acme Oyster House is fantastic. The broiled oysters are unbelievable. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it.

Love Deanies--especially during football season after Saints game. Really big and really clean. Good for entire family. I agree about the Bloody Mary's. They are a meal in a goblet.

I'll weigh in with my Mid-City bias...

Katie's would be a great place to take the kids. Neighborhood restaurant, great food, and a pretty diverse but still local menu. Hop on the Canal streetcar line headed towards the cemeteries/City Park and get off at Telemachus. After you're done with dinner, go grab the best gelato in the city at Brocato's. Right around the corner.

The Ruby Slipper for breakfast (also in Mid-City)

I second those that said Parkway Bakery for po-boys. Simply, the best. (again...Mid-City)

Luizza's is better than Katie's, and is right down the street, typical old school food.
Great Cold mugs for drinks, but cash only..

The Parkway Surf and Turf might be the best Po-Boy in NOLA...

Luizza's by the Track has a great BBQ Shrimp stuffed Po-Boy..

We'll just have to disagree on this one. Love the big cold mugs of beer and the classic New Orleans options at Luizza's, but Katie's is a step above in the quality of food. The char-grilled oysters and the cuban sandwich are fantastic. In the end, their menus are different enough that it's hard to compare the two.

Luizza's by the Track is my favorite of the Luizza's.
