its because bama fans think their team is still being coached by a dead person Our fanbase is more than aware that Coach Saban is our coach and we're extremely happy about that fact...

the decade is the 70s and no matter what they are still one of the best teams in the country Alabama is the #1 ranked team in the country so I guess you're saying that Alabama fans are correct in thinking they are "one of the best teams in the country"....

50% of the alabama fanbase have themselves, nor family member or close friend never stepped foot in a classroom at uat.... I'd ask for evidence that 50% of our fans have not been friends with or themselves students of the University of Alabama but I'm going to go ahead and assume that you pulled that out of your rear and don't have any such evidence. I'll be waiting here if indeed you do.

and they generally have no clue who they play this week. That's easy.... we play Miss. State. Which is why I'm on your forum.

MSU alumni do not behave like Alabama walk-on alumni. We take pride in our alma mater as an entity, not just as an outlet for semi-pro athletics. We do not measure our university's worth by wins and losses but rather by the memories created there by late nights in the library, involvement in student organizations, and banging hot chicks from Mississippi farm country.

We do not need $4 million coaches or recruiting national championships to affirm our slipping self image. We know who we are. And I can use that tricky little pronoun "we" when I refer to Mississippi State.

Redacted, myself, and plenty of other MSU alums enjoy Mississippi State athletics as a diversion to the rigors of daily life. Much like golf, cigars, scotch, or softleg. But at the end of the day, we simply don't think Mississippi State football is divine. To justify our passion we need not reference Bible verses, just our degrees.

So take your smack elsewhere. I am not trying to defend MSU football. That would be silly and certainly doesn't make me a bad fan. I am simply attempting to point out the delusion, idiocy, and Calvin-from-Green-Hill mentality that permeates Alabama so deeply that a Birmingham Southern grad feels like he can reference national championships that occurred prior to his birth to attempt to belittle another. As a former Alabama fan who has seen the light, pointing out such gayness will always be a little part of my life calling.

That said, gooooooooo Panthers!!!

who you are responding to.

you know as well as anyone on this board and as well as anyone at the game this weekend that since Saban was hired there have been talks of him being the "second coming of Bear Bryant." people weren't saying "we just got the best coach in the country." they were only concerned if he could be like the bear. i can understand a small amount of comparison but the level wasn't anywhere near what i would call small.

also, you know for a fact that the fans would go friggin nuts if he started wearing a houndstooth fedora on the sideline. hell he is even signing fedora hats.

hell he is even signing fedora hats.
What would that speak about his ego if he signed all autographs except those that were on anything houndstooth. I can honestly say that Saban doesn't give a darn what material he is signing when an autograph is requested of him. I'm supprised that you even thought it worthy to bring up.

think i was making a judgement call on saban. the point is he is having fedora hats, which represent the previous coaching legend, in his face for signatures. of course he is going to sign the damn things.

i also like how you disregard the rest of my statement that he is the "second coming of bear bryant."

see the thing is i am not saying anything at all bad about your dead coach or your live one. i am simply stating that your fans are strange at best and delusional at worst.

how does my fellow fans being strange effect you? Is it annoying or something? I guess I could say that I find a lot of rival fans annoying. LSU fans doing the tiger bait thing is annoying. Phil Fulmer being fat is annoying. Auburn's offensive line looking to the sideline like meerkat's is annoying. Fans pitching fits at how you choose to remember someone is annoying. I guess what I'm saying is if I believe you shouldn't be concerned with how I cheer for my University than I certainly believe that I shouldn't care if you're concerned.

As for the original post, if anyone is able to tailgate this weekend don't hesitate to join in if you don't have your own. I hope every is very friendly to you and hope that you have a good time in Tuscaloosa.

I'll be in T-Town around 4:30. Grab my cell number from Thew if you feel so inclined.

My first trip all year (trying as best I can to forget La Tech) and I'm looking forward to it.

you're one and if you go back to exhibit A (the video) that would be two. thats 50%. the quote "i've always been a alabama fan but not always watchin it" proves to me he is in the other 50% category.

another thing, a smart alabama fan would be talking trash about their "12" national titles, numerous sec titles and the #1 ranking and so on and so forth and then go off on how bad state is in everything. but instead you chose to defend the (dead) bear's honor, proving our point on how obsessed fans are with him. bravo.

I don't feel the need to defend anything. I think you're taking things a bit too serious. This is an online message board where you openly discuss a host of topics, in this case college football. I do this because it helps pass the time until Saturday. The fact that Saturday is not a particularly good day of the week for you is really not any of my business.... except for this Saturday.

so if we MSU fans put up a post at the top of a MSU sports message board as a way for us to cheer for our university, which is by making fun of your university, then you shouldn't be concerned about it. it is our way of doing things. instead you give us:

Let Paul Bryant do what most of you claim Alabama fans can't let him do... rest in peace.
follow your own advice and we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

you didn't really come here with the intent of being ragged at all since you are a member of the fanbase of the great Bear Bryant and the number one team in the country. yet you state:

It is game week and I think it's appropriate to take a couple friendly jabs at each other.
well here is another jab.... the delusion of the Bama faithful has been clearly exhibited by you today. good job. you have now joined all of the others in epic fashion.

As VH pointed out, you wouldn't have Saban as coach if you hadn't given him $4 mil a year. Allow me for a second to sound off on that. You guys are paying a football coach $4 mil a year. The economy is rough, people are starving worldwide, yet Bama is paying a college football coach $4 mil. That's ridiculous. Congratulations for doing several things: having your priorities way out of wack (big problem for you Bammers), raising the price of poker in the SEC to embarassing heights, and proving the only way you could get a good coach with non-Bama ties to put up with your fanbase (who treat college football like a religion) was to break the bank.

Not a bad return on that "ridiculous" investment. We netted $37 M last year with a 7-6 record. 4 million was a bargain, I think he needs a raise. Can you imagine what our return will be this year?

Speaking of Alabama and delusional- I remember the 1999 MSU/Bama game. On their jumbotron they had the top 10 moments of the decade:

#2- Man Lands on the Moon.

#1- Bama wins the 1992 National Championship.

NOT making this up.

Also, WTF is up with all of the lithographs of Bama stuff? I swear, it's like 2nd and 5 from the Georgia game from 1994 in the second quarter- "The draw play". They have a lithograph for every play in Alabama football history. Crazy.

Y'all need to remember not to get this guy riled up. Remember what Bama fans do when they get angry.
They shoot people who knock on their door with a loaded weapon while pointing it at them?
