Why? He just came back, not 100%, and not as fast as other options that could have run it. Even still, why run that play at all? Thats the best play or better yet, the best option in that situation? I think not.....

I agree with you. If you are going to run the play, give it to DPE or Alonzo Moore. Westy is a gamer but that type of play isn't one of his strengths.

Yea, run the plays where the guys are untouched for 30 yards and the other guy is wide open if we want to pass, run those ones. I like those ones best.
What's funny about this is, my son texted me literally seconds before Gerrys second interception, "we need to run that interception play again". I just laughed when it happened.

Or even Reilly....

Or run the play so he can possible pass the ball to another receiver...

Really odd play call running left to the short side of the field.

Trolls gonna troll, but its the truth. Why get cute there in a huge moment? How many counters did we run? Would have been good against an overpursuing defense. Same with screens. Lets the defense barrel in, then screen them to death. The one time they used the screen it worked to perfection. Off tackle would hace been real good. Even outside zone, the way they were plugging the inside over and over and over. Tommy fakes handoff inside and keeps off tackle would have probably gotten 5 all day, at the least. I know, hindsight. But they are "professionals" who get paid to know these things before the hindsight kicks in. If these coaches cant grasp these adjustments on the fly, what good are they?

Screen games work when linebackers are blitzing and overpursuing. Not rush ends coming hard. Counter plays and power work against stuff like that.
Ok, let me rephrase. If we run a basic screen where the lineman lets the dline in and bumrush the qb (like they were all night) you dont think the screen would work? With our lineman out front blocking those linebackers with the dline totally duped chasing tommy with no ball? Thats what i meant.

No. Those types of screens are made for LB blitzes.

Once again we had defenders in our faces 1.2 seconds after almost every snap. Langs, considering the circumstances, called about the best freaking game he could. How the heck is he supposed to know when the 1 out of 5 running plays called our O-line was going to hold up? That play fell in the 4 out of 5 category that was doomed to fail, who knew? I didn't mind that call one bit.

Why didn't he just call one of those touchdown plays though? You know, the ones where we score???

Funny, when I watched that play, my reaction was - Oh man, what a great play call and tip of the hat to the Wiscy defender who stayed home and made a play. Against most defenses, that is probably a huge play. The Wisconsin kid simply played it perfectly. Our guys do that from time to time also. It wasn't a bad play call and it didn't matter that it was Westy or any other player. Simply a good play by the Wisconsin player.

The reverse to Westerkamp was a great call at the right moment. The backside had been collapsing down on run away hard the last few series and inexplicably he stayed closer to home and kept Westerkamp from getting edge, where it would have bee a TD

Our line struggles with getting downfield when they are NOT the walking wounded. Not a good idea, unless you want more tipped passes, easy picks, or get your running back broke in half.

Another great play call was the short crossing pattern to Reilly that unfortunately was a horribly thrown pass. That one had 20+ yards written all over it.
