Revisiting The Jack Cristil Statue Idea

For quite some time I have seen discussion of building a statue in honor of Jack Cristil on MSU's campus. Depending on the statue's location, it might be worth an attempt to start a new tradition after we win games by wrapping him in maroon and white. I think locating Jack's statue in The Junction would be ideal in getting the statue more visibility during football season and while school is in session. This location might also serve the new tradition well, by getting fans involved in wrapping Jack in maroon and white while exiting Davis Wade.

Ideas and feedback are welcomed.

There was supposed to be a fountain where they have the sitting area and landscaping in front of the m-club in the junction. That seems like the perfect spot now for a Jack statue.

Jack wasn't just football though. I get that placing a statue in a parking lot between the hump and DWS isn't what needs to happen, but since Jack was more than just a football announcer, his statue could be put anywhere.

My only thing about putting him in front of the stadium is there's a sure fire chance someone is going to vandalize it. One of our dumbass fans put a #HailState shirt on Bear Bryant. If we had statues lord knows those goons up north would do something to it. I think next to the chapel would be nice. Not only is it a beautiful part of campus and removed from chaos, it still receives some of the highest foot traffic on campus.

Wonder if some sort of kiosk type deal that plays his calls in historically important games would work. Could do one for football and one for basketball. Less of a target for vandals.

Sure he was, but football broadcasts is what he's well known for.

Granted, my experience with Mr. Cristil is a very short one compared to most of you, but I'd say the majority of his stuff I listened to was basketball.

I have a feeling "he was remembered for football" is because football is a more popular sport. Basketball to me was always right there though.

Azzurridawg had an idea of him sitting broadcasting and you could sit next to him and take a pic. I like that idea.

I LOVE this idea! There is no reason this should not happen!!!! Those who worry about vandalism are cowards and live in fear, grow a sack I say! So what if someone puts a Bama shirt on him or a bear hat.... That is all good fun, and not blood no foul!

The comment of a statue sitting at a broadcasting booth so you could take a photo with Jack is awesome and unique! Go for it 100%!

Are we really doing a statue?

or is that just an idea we're tossing around here?

I've never really liked the idea of putting statues of people up, like bama does for their coaches.

please no statue..............

I think Jack would be horrified if we stuck him a replica broadcast booth. Having people sit down and take pictures with him calling games is against everything he was about. He hated being bothered while he worked. Hell he cussed out Slive for touching him on the shoulder during a game.

Jack is special to generations of fans but he won't be to the next bunch. I know that's sad but it's the way it is.

I would rather have a statue of Jack that occasionally gets something put on it by a dumbass from another school over not having a statue at all.

I would personally like to see us do away with the clock museum and make that a hall in honor of Jack Cristil. You could do everything each person is mentioning, include all kinds of photos and videos from his great years of service, and put the statue right dead center of that room.

Put the statue sitting in the actual broadcast both at DWS. That's where we all remember him. Maybe do tours on game day mornings or something.

The way I've heard it is that Mr. Cullis Cobb provided the money to build that wing of the bookstore for his clock collection. The funds were given to the athletic department for administering the museum. I think it would be interesting to see if what you suggest would ever happen. Other major donors would probably be watching closely. Probably same for the Seal building in the south endzone of DWS.

Like the museum or not, you can't take something built with someone's donated money and use it for something else. Assuming that Mr. Cobb knew a decent lawyer when he gave the money.

If people liked Jack so much, they should donate the money to build a special museum for him. I never saw MSU walk away from or turn down a big donation.

Give $300,000,000.00 as an endowment to create the Jack Cristil School of Sports Broadcasting. They would build a building to house it within a year and put Bronze Jack in the lobby.

I vote we rename a road ofter him

I know he already has the Bypass, but something on campus would be better. College View St that runs behind the westide of davis wade to the hump would be perfect.

The hell you can't. They don't personally own it. Not saying I see any reason to or anything, but the idea that anyone "owns" a building on State's campus is asinine.

Well, except for that really good hidden one-man ******* in the bottom of the library - I owned it for several semesters.
