why would'nt you wait till after iowa to do a review? and pay accordingly?
I'm not sure why the hurry. I don't think penn state fan is in a hurry
and if penn state and rhule have a burning desire to be at one. there's going to be plenty coaches available.
I would think any money going into Nebraska athletics would be directly to the oline first (seeing the investment in qb and recivers), then dline (seeing it's porous nature also)
(think upcoming portal, in fact we should be engaged with targets, now)
and a bump for emmit and special teams coach, they seem to be of a productive nature.

Why are we giving him an extension? What is the logic?
Rhule has us moving the right direction and we need stability and longevity with a coach. If we lose Rhule right now, we’re not getting a good coach over all these other elite schools that are also hunting or about to be hunting for a coach. Now’s not the time. We need to secure Rhule

“If we lose Rhule” is music to an agent’s ears. It means he’s conned another fan base into a big payday.

Guess what - if an offer is big enough, he’s leaving anyway. The extension just provides an even more enormous parachute if things don’t work out and he ends up getting canned.

I think I’ll throw in the towel as a fan if he’s given an extension. That would prove to me we aren’t serious about winning nor will we ever be.
Especially after we finish 6-6

Short-sided thinking. We can’t keep changing coaches every few years. Rhule has shown incremental improvement. People forget how bad we sucked for 10 years. He has also shown that he will upgrade coaches in needed areas to continue improving. Stick with him and we will get there. Yall would have fired Osborne early on

I would turn that logic right around and say an extension is short sighted. CFB is as volatile as ever and any coach can bottom out from year to year, regardless of how much NIL money is backing him.

Let’s say for argument’s sake Rhule is able to secure 30+ million in NIL next year, just to finish with 7-9 wins. You think that’s going to cut it with the boosters? The reason why guys like Franklin and Kelly are getting fired is because in addition to exorbitant salaries, donors are also paying millions in NIL. Hence why patience is at an all time low.

Or… you could just throw in the towel now. I would certainly appreciate you doing that.

Is his improvement significant or has it been artificially enhanced by our schedule? Remember we switched out Tennessee for Houston Christian. I guess in hindsight scheduling both Tennessee and Cincinnati was kind of silly given how Cincinnati has performed. I dunno. I like Rhule but I’m afraid an extension right now is premature. He’s signed for 5 more years. That should be long enough for recruiting.

We were never playing Tennessee this year it was 26 and 27 . I agree 5 years is long enough to keep from schools saying he won’t coach you all 4 years.

When it’s announced tomorrow, what will the vibe be?
His contract is so backend loaded I can’t see the need for an extension or raise; and that doesn’t mean he may or may not be on a positive trajectory.

If he can win a few more games this year and earn an extension….fantastic. If not, let’s follow his lead and support a better NIL instead of giving him more time/money.

Name the plenty of coaches who are going to be available. Seems to me to be lots of openings and not many takers.

It's good for recruiting and we have a ton of potential recruits coming in Saturday.
Recruits are not stupid. They’ve seen enough of this nonsense to know that extensions don’t tell you who’s going to be coaching where in 3 or 4 years. Coaching extensions are just the most lucrative severance program in the history of Western civilization.

They know that of course BUT they're also smart enough to view the lack of a contract extension as a bad sign. A contract extension means the school has more skin in the game because it almost always means the buyout requirement has been increased.
