A LOOONG time ago, Rice had a National Power football team, sorta like the Ivy League or the Military Academies. They were a feared team in the Southwest Conference. However, as larger schools started putting more money into their programs, Rice became irrelevant. By the time the Big 8 and the tatters of the Southwest Conference united to form the Big 12 conference, Rice was let out. However, they lowered their expectations and eventually joined Conference USA. Because of their lowered expectations, they actually won a Conference Championship, their first since 1957.
Ole Miss should follow their example. Instead of butting their heads every year against National Powers like Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, etc., they should learn their place and join a smaller conference, or even drop to FCS where they might have the chance to win a National Championship (or at least be a regular in the SWAC championship game). For the university of ole miss, the key is Lowered Expectations.
