Fremd QB looks really good, rice defensive backs look very confused. Fremd giving rice the ball at the 35 every kickoff. they have a great game plan. keeping everyone in front of them.

Defense wins championships. BR has been all about the offense.

I said earlier this season brother rice coaching may hurt them and it continues to be their downfall. they were beat soundly in every phase of the game. being outscored 31-3 since mid Q2. Rice defense was atrocious.

kind if an annual thing for them.

Fremd QB lit them up like a Christmas tree.

they have talent on defense they just have no clue what to do. I posted earlier defense was playing like Fremd would not throw more than 5 yards downfield. guys looked lost out there.

QB also had a rough day fir Rice not sure he completed a ball more than 5 yards downfield.

myriad of issues with the game

Big surprise with Fremd beating BR. BR decimated Montini, Montini beat Lake Zurich by two scores and Lake Zurich beat Fremd. Never thought BR would lose to Fremd. What happened beside possible coaching decisions. Hats off to BR for a very good season.

Fremd offense kept clicking QB with some huge throws. great game plan on defense let rice have yards but kept everyone in front of them.

2 interceptions for Fremd that led to scores. Fremd no TO's. Hats to the Vikings they came in with a game plan and executed it, Rice on the other hand thought they could rely simply on their talent and win this game going away. At least that's how it looked from the stands. Hats off to those kids they didn't quit but I also believed the staff underestimated Josten (sp?) to some degree. That kid made good and sure throws. The 3rd and 19 conversion to start the second half might've been the play of the game. Kept the ball and led to a score which put them up 11. They don't convert Rice is getting good field position down only 4.

Br defense has given up a lot of points to all year but was also able to create timely turnovers. that was not the case today while their offense has been lethal all year had a rough third quarter and couldnt recover. side not Ricky smalling has been a pleasure to watch and br might never get a player of his caliber again. so if your a rice fan I suggest you make it out and watch the kid playing the prep bowl. ps where are all those br fans that have been taking over every thread. crickets...

I know you won't believe this coming from me........ But I was taking to Badke last Sunday at a grammar school game, and he told me he wasn't worried about Fremd. As I walked away from him I thought " who says that about a playoff opponent?"

Feeto, that right there in lies the problem. When you get to State you take no opponent for granted and I thought they did. Fremd came at us with a great game plan.

And yes, they were manhandled by Fremd and their huge offensive line. Rice didn't make adjustments like stunting or blitzing to help defray that huge advantage. Bad game plan by Rice plus they underestimated the Fremd QB as he was by far the player of the game in my mind. I thought Smalling should've been in the game earlier playing both ways as him (Josten the QB) and #17 were playing pitch and catch all game to much success. Oh well, you play to win and Fremd came a long way to win, Rice did not.

It appears Brian Olsen will be okay as he gave thumbs up leaving the field but this is his second head injury in 4-5 weeks. I care more about his long term health more than anything.

We lost. Hats off to the Vikings. We didn't quit but came up short. Many plays could've made a difference but converting on 3-19 early in the second for Fremd was HUGE and Rice settling for a FG mid way through the 3rd Quarter when they had a 2nd and two near the Goal Line were two big ones that really made the difference in this game. If Badke thought they'd roll then he had his players thinking the same and they coached and played like it. Unfortunately Fremd had other things in mind.

Bottom line, Fremd did their homework our staff did not. Hopefully they learn as they're still young as far as coaching staffs go. I think they thought Montini best Lake Zurich and LZ beat Fremd by a couple of score which means Rice cakewalk. This is State and as I said earlier, you take no team for granted and as a staff, you do your homework and prepare for the opponent rather than be comlacent and let the opponent prepare for you. Hard lesson learned.

I will preface this post by saying that I am a retired coach who now spends a majority of his time at family functions, so I am joining the arm-chair quarterback club on this thread.

This post will be fun if you reflect:

I challenge you to tell me what Rice's game plan was offensively? How about defensively? How about special teams? Tell me what they were running and why. If you cannot, it's difficult to say that Rice had a bad game plan if in fact you don't know what their weekly goals were for all three phases. Right?

I also challenge you to tell me how much stunting and blitzing Rice did in first half? How about 2nd half? Did they make any adjustments at half? Did they stick with their adjustments? Be careful with your response. Lol.

I also challenge your assumption that Rice didn't prepare appropriately for Fremd. Were you at Rice's practices this week, and did you see the practice plans? Do you know if the coaches met for countless hours every night? These are questions you don't know the answers to. I am certain, however, that the coaches worked tirelessly to prepare (this is something I know, but you don't). It would be interesting to know how hard they prepared, wouldn't it? Let's just say this, the Rice coaches deserve a ton of credit for their preparation and commitment to Brother Rice and the young men that they mentor (as was evidenced by their season). Anyone who knows these guys would never question their commitment or work ethic.

Also, anyone who knows Badke would tell you that he would never in a million years say he wasn't worried about an opponent (as Feeto claimed). If you personally know Badke, you would know that he would worry about "little sisters of the poor" if they came to play Rice. Could he have possibly made a statement similar that was misinterpreted or made a statement out of jest, certainly.

Many of your comments are difficult to prove and make Rice's staff seem lazy and incompetent (which they are not). The Rice coaching staff is comprised of amazing coaches and mentors who prepared diligently for their program, for their players, and for their school (and they are really not that young). They do every week. Unless you personally know a coaching staff, it's wreckless to make assumptions based on nothing (definitely not based on fact).

Where were your posts vs. Mt. Carmel or St. Rita that last 3 years? Ask Frank and Todd if they think Badke prepares his staff and coaches.

Here's a little insight: I've become a Rice supporter over the years and rightfully so because I see how they go about running their program.

The Rice coaches that prepared these boys deserve a ton of credit. The countless hours coaches spend away from their families for the betterment of the school and program is admirable. As a former coach, it's also tough to lose a game, come on the Edgy board, and see you are being accused of laziness and incompetency, which unfairly reflects poorly on the Rice coaches who deserve a ton of credit, credit that truly can never be repaid by the players or their parents or the fans, and not that it needs to anyway. Coaches hope to make a positive, lasting impression on their players, and many times, their commitment to excellence goes unnoticed by unappreciative fans who do exactly as I am doing now: armchair quarterbacking at its finest!

Enjoy the playoff season, boys! It's going to be a wild ride in 8a. Just remember, however, you never truly know why a staff makes certain decisions, but in the end, it's not your privilege to know. Just be a fan and enjoy it.

Member for seven year, first post goes for a few hundred words.

I love it!!! Dude pissed you off enough to bring you out of the shadows.

(I agree with your sentiments.)

I was also shocked by Feeto's statement - I have no idea who Feeto is or if Babke or other coaches do, but to share that statement, WOW!

I have read posts on this board for as long as I can remember when I was coaching, and I love the perspective people have. Even though I don't always agree, it's great to see what people think and believe.

Now that I am no longer coaching, I am on the board reading even more (every day, actually). EdgyTim deserves a ton of credit for this site. It gives all of us a forum to have some fun. For me, reading your thoughts is fun. Keep up the good dialogue.

I will crawl back underneath my rock for another 7 years, unless someone forces me to come out!

Football is an amazing vehicle for young men to learn about life. That often goes forgotten. I also know the pain entire families experience with a loss like Rice had yesterday. That's why I posted. Rice really is an amazing place with amazing people. I want you all to know that.

Just be aware that I will be lurking every day!

Yes, Edgy deserves a ton of credit for all that he does. LOVED being able to view the GW/NV game from Edgy's Periscope.
As jlynn12 said, this site gives us a forum to have fun. Though, besides fun, I love all the insight I get from the different post.

Personally I don't think Coach Badke would have said something like that and I agree that Rice did prepare for the game. Unfortunately, a mix of turnovers, penalties, play-calling and yes, Fremd being more physical, led to the result. We flat out got beat. Earlier in the game when Rice was down 28-17 we had the ball 3rd and goal from the 2. We did a pass play that wasn't close in the corner. Short field. We had previously run one in on earlier drive so was sort of hoping they'd just pound it in (or try) - worse case scenario you give Fremd ball on their own 1. Instead we kicked the FG to go down 8. Granted it got it to within a TD (assuming 2 pt conversion) but at least it would have shown some sort of aggressiveness on the field and in playcalling which I found lacking by Rice during the game. That to me was sort of an indirect win for Fremd's defense that I think gave them some inspiration,

I'm just telling you what the man said to me. I don't know him well, but we do see each other at games every so often. I like Brian, I think he's a really good coach, and has done great things at Rice. He wasn't being conceded when he said that, just confident. He's still young, he'll learn from this.

A school of 750 young men should not be taking a school with 1350 young men lightly. I doubt they did...they were up 17-7 early after all.

Same story all season - lots of points but not a complete football team. Defense relied on forcing turnovers at big moments all season and came up empty yesterday.

What a call on the half back option pass by Fremd! Their QB was the MVP for them yesterday. Big completions on multiple 3rd and longs to keep momentum on their side.

Looking forward to what's ahead. Definitely will be a different type of team. More size and strength than speed. Which might be a good thing...

He's a solid 6-4 and 235 right now - could get up to 6'5 and 250 by next year. Sullivan is the bulldog Soph guard who won't crack 6' but will be 5'11 230 mauler next year. Similar to Hosty.
