I don't think the 9 games is that big of a deal. I think we'll win most of those 9 games regardless of whether or not he's playing. And by SEC play, he should have plenty of game experience.

and I doubt he makes much of an impact really this season due to the injury and the fact that he's far from game condition.

I dont think the 9 games are that big of a deal.

He probably wouldnt have been to much of a producer then anyway. He still has a long way to go and his conditioning has to come a long way too. So, this is probably a good thing so that we dont throw him in for 5-8 mins a game when he's not ready.

Still may not play a lot after those 9

Edit: nevermind, I see where VZ said its because of his draft exploration

I know, this is the NCAA, they don't require logic. But, I'm confused on the whole suspension thing because of his toying around with the 2008 NBA Draft. I've always thought that you are either A) an amateur or B) not an amateur. What gets the NCAA to the point where they say something to the effect "he was sorta an amateur, but not really - suspend him 9 games"? Shouldn't you either be declared eligible to play the entire season, or not eligible to play any of it?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bitching about 9 games. It's immaterial for all practical purposes. I just don't understand the suspension logic in connection to amateur-status considerations.

It makes no sense at all, but it's their way of saying he did something wrong, but they couldn't find out what.... at least i think so

I'd like to know what the NCAA's official statement is about suspending him 9 games. Apparently there's some sort of gray area in this type of ****. Hopefully Sidney will get the same sort of ruling.

When Austin and even Riek "tested the waters" by declaring for the draft, and then allowed the NBA teams to pay his way for private workouts is what was the problem at that time.
Before last year this was against the rules and resulted in the suspensions for Austin and Riek...and the repayment of money in form of a donation to a charity.

The funny thing is if you did the same thing now...you do not have to replay the money...NCAA changed the rules to allow teams to pay for the expenses now.

It just seems like we rarely ever start a season with an intact team for some reason or another. Over the years Austin, Roberts, Rhodes, Slater, etc have all missed the beginnings of the season for various reasons.</p>

five hard fouls each game. I think he will come in 5- 10 minutes each game for Varnado. I have heard that Sidney will also slide to the 5 when Augustus comes in the game and Varnado rests. Further Riek will make a heck of a practice player for Varnado.

I got to watch Riek, Ravern, Phil, Kodi, Bost, and Swat scrimmage today in the Sanderson Center. Riek has all the athletic ability to be all world he just gotta learn some offensive moves in the post and he gotta understand the fundamentals of the game in general but the other players were giving him hell the whole time about him complaining about hacks and such. Ravern look like he bulked up a little since the end of last season and was attacking the rim every other time he received the ball at the wing and converting on most drives also. Phil looked good running the point position in the scrimmage and I wouldn't be surprise if he backs up Bost during the season at point. Kodi wasn't looking to pass during the time I saw him instead it was either drive into a pack paint or jack up an NBA three. Bost looked great attacking the paint and facilitating his team in general during the scrimmage. While Jarvis was best player during the scrimmage he has really improved his ball handling and post offense. Swat did have a nice rejection of kodi going up for a dunk

Why do I have the feeling that this guy could easily derail what is a promising season by selfish play and/or pouting when Rick yanks him for it?

where he was pretty much all of this past season if he does that ****. We have a ton of guys that will be looking for minutes as it is so I just don't see that happening.

looked like he doesn't realize his size. He plays like he is 6' tall if that makes any since. Sidney can be as good as he wants to be, both Riek and Sidney make Varnardo look small.
