Riley has taken a personal approach with several Texas natives, including four-star wide receiver Joshua Moore, the nation’s No. 119 overall player. Moore is now at IMG Academy in Florida, but is a Texas native and one of Nebraska’s top overall targets in the class regardless of position.

“I definitely feel like a priority,” Moore told Rivals.com “It's not everyday that you get to text the head coach literally every single morning. Coach Riley and (wide receivers) coach (Keith) Williams both made time to reach out to me and my parents every morning, so I definitely feel like a priority.”

Riley's effort is A+ Hope we land this kid. He would get clock day 1

He works his *** off and wants to be great. He didn't come to Nebraska just to get a nice paycheck before retirement. He and his staff will out work a lot of other coaching staffs.

It's a lot better than the previous coach who bitched and complained that you couldn't get good recruits here because Nebraska is too far away, and it's expensive to fly here and the local recruiting isn't good and blah blah. So happy that negativity and nonsense is gone.

Now if we can get our fans to stop trying to fire ever coach that we get. Any oops or any mishaps, a lot of fans jump straight to the "we need to fire him, he must go" none sense. Riley is safe for a few years. Wed be retarded to fire him with anything less.
Every coach deserves three years unless you are a colossal screw up like Turner Gill at Kansas.

Riley is going to continue to bring in good kids who will fill needs. He knows how to manage a roster. He represents Nebraska well, he works hard, he knows what expectations are and he isn't going to settle for anything less. Hence why we Diaco/Williams/Parella are here now instead of Banker/Stewart/Hughes. Better coaches, better recruiters, better teachers.

I get the feeling a good recruiting machine has been put in place due to some incredibly hard work and focus. I sure hope it blossoms into regular top 10-15 classes. Getting 2-3 commits this weekend would be a good indicator the scheme is bearing fruit.

Three years is a really short tenure in CFB. Two years like Gill is almost unheard of and honestly it is pretty crazy they didn't give him more.

I love our head coach and believe he has us going in the right direction. My only pet peeve is the offense but as long as he has the talent to execute I'll be ok.

I was just saying it's crazy that people think Riley shouldn't get a 4th year if we struggle this year. I'm a fan of a coach getting four recruiting cycles to try and build something of his own. I think Riley will get.

But Gill's teams were so out of shape and never hit the weights. He had weird rules and didn't let the kids be kids. I went to a lot of those games, and it was rough. KU just screwed up even worse by hiring Charlie Weis instead of Gus Malzahn when he pretty much said he would take the job.

We are on commit watch for up to 8 snd possibly 9 additional verbals from the spring game question is whether they will be accepted and when they will be announced.

I'm not a big fan of the offense either, but it is different than what 80% of the rest of college football is doing. It's good to "zig" when everyone else "zags". Case in point, there's not a lot of teams even recruiting pocket passing QBs.

Our rivals must look at the improved recruiting efforts and must be hoping that the Husker fan base & top boosters lose patience before Riley can bring this team back to Top 10 contention. With a tougher schedule on the horizon, there is a real possibility that this team could be much better and not have it show up with a great won-loss record.

What specifically is your pet peeve on the offense?

I hate losing the threat of a QB that is ultra athletic and can be the difference maker. I'll enjoy the hell out of QBs that can hit open WRs consistently too so as I said as long as we have the talent to execute I'll be ok.

I agree with you, if said ultra athletic QB can pass. If not, then teams can key on the run and maybe the QB has a good game, but you can't count on it.

I hated playing guys like Michael Bishop and Vince Young... because they could do both equally well. But Tommy and Taylor weren't those guys. Whatever our QBs are asked to do, I just hope they can do it well. Seems like that's a possibility this year and for the immediate future...

Or maybe some of our clueless fans will realize our basketball coach just finished year 5 with his worst record since coming here...and our baseball coach is in his 6th year, and hasn't won anything of substance in a historically weak baseball conference.

Let's see how the offense will work with QBs who can run it, we might like it.
Nonsense. You have to run an offense nobody else does, and ignore modern football rules amlowing you to take advantage of a controlled passing game.
So says the 50somethings in the stands listening to the radio broadcast during games on 17 pound headsets.

Du i ment that more towards Riley. Less for Miles or our Baseball coach.

Oh, my bad. I'm on board with Riley getting at least the 4 years of his contract, and if we are winning in that neighborhood of 9 games a year, and playing for the B1G Championship fairly regularly, I'm OK if he stays here for the remainder of his years.

I love the guy's personality, and he seems as sincere as a guy could be. He's gotta win the games he is supposed to, and play for league titles on occasion, and needs to run a clean program, but the blowouts last year need to change in year 3. Can't lose to Ohio State like we did last year, and the way we lost to Iowa can't happen again.

He now has the QBs he wants in his system, so I think we'll see some really good things on offense. You could see those elements on Saturday. Even with our young pup, Gebbia.

1. Its not fans who get a coach fired. Its big money boosters/donors/ sponsors, and University officials. Fans can obviously stop showing up, but by that moment, the writing is usually already on the door.

2. However, wins and losses still count. Nebraska has a 100 million dollar football program. They have incredible resources, fan support, and facilities. You can recruit well. You can be a terrific ambassador for the program, but you still have to win games. And more importantly, you have to beat teams who are inferior to your program in every way from talent to coaching to resources.

3. I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer, but its difficult to maintain unbelievable recruiting momentum if you lose games. If you go 6-7, 9-4, and then follow it up with 6-7 again, you're not going to keep your dynamic recruiting class in order. At that point, fan opinion is irrelevant, whether its positive or Negative.

Yeah, you guys are making good points, I just want to point out the following:

- We do need to translate the program being successfully rebuilt into wins, sure, but nobody is expecting us to go out there and dominate next year. We're still a year or two away from being able to successfully challenge Ohio State and Michigan (which is convenient, as we play them both in 2018), because they're just that loaded with talent and their coaching is top notch. We're not going to look amazing against Ohio State again this year, and everyone needs to accept that. A blowout loss? Hopefully not. But a loss is coming, and its going to be by more than one touchdown, I think.

- We absolutely need to start handing Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota regular ***-whompings. Those teams should beat us like, once every 4-5 years when we're down and they're up if we're truly going to step back into elite status. If we want to be the power of the division, and I would argue we are well on our way to becoming that, we have to regularly throttle the best teams on our side. Wisconsin in particular, and to a lesser degree Iowa, have gotten a little too used to beating us. Both, in my opinion, should lose to us next year and in 2018.

- The momentum of the program, the energy around it, the coaching staff we've hired, and the recruiting successes we're currently having, all point to Riley getting things going in the right direction. At this rate, I want him to have as much time as he needs as long as we go bowling in 2017 and finish with a great recruiting class. 2018 is the real step-up year.

Agree with this. My fear is it will be a struggle to go much above .500 this year. It's a bit of a reboot on both sides of the ball. Some of the chess pieces are better. I hope both lines continue to get better, because that will really influence how things go.

We wasted 2 years on the defensive side. Bray is the only original coach left on that side of the ball. In my mind Riley and company didn't have 2 years to waste. He should have gotten the right coaches in the first place. I think defense will be in good hands now.

On the offensive side he needs to fire Cav and Davis. Until he does I think the offense won't be as good as it should be. Riley doesn't have much time to waste. He needs to get this ship righted going into his 3rd season. With the money, resources, and facilities the program has, we should recruit better than we did the first 2 years. This year is off to a decent start.

His results on the field should determine his length here. That's what matters.

True. The main question with a variety of answers is this... how long does he have to put the pieces in place? Some say they should already be in place, some say this year is when they should be in place, and some say another year or two.

This is the source for so much venom between certain posters (I am including myself in this accusation as well).

If Riley doesn't win the division this year I believe he will be Nebraska's only coach since the divisonal format was put in place to have not played for a conference title in their 1st 3 years

Let me put it this way. Shawn Eichorst will be fired before Mike Riley is.

If Riley doesn't work out, regardless of time on the job, Eichorst will not be the AD that hires the next coach.

Everything else is based on timing. However I believe Riley gets a fourth year regardless of 2017 results. It's hard to fire an AD and HFC at the same time at the end of a season. Unless they already know who the next AD will be and can get them in place quickly. But those positions are usually not preordained. Timing will be similar to when Osborne left and Eichorst took over. New AD stuck with current regime for a lame duck season.

I think that makes sense, but I don't think either of those things is coming after this season at all.

Sticking with my opinion Riley is the right guy for the job. He's bringing in talent we havent seen in years, playmakers that we may have never gotten before and he has shown he can and will make the changes when it's necessary. We now have a top tier DC, DB coaches and recruiters and there loading our talent up. Only things id like to see different is getting more top tier LBs and RBs and we would be in tip top shape. I really think we will start seeing some good things coming soon under Lee, OBrein and/or Gebbia. In my opinion wed be stupid to let Riley go with the talent hes bring in unless he has a major meltdown. At the very worst case, hes loading the team up for the next head coach (again thats if the worst case happens).
