You never hear it any more, but liked his duet with Sheena Easton "You got the look."

My only complaint about his music is that "Raspberry Beret" still makes me want to stab myself in the head with an ice pick.

He was certainly one of a kind, and Purple Rain album is timeless. I wish I had gone to see him in concert when I was younger.

Damnit. First Bowie, then Haggard, now Prince? Ugh! And the music coming out today is just poor overall *almost* all across the board. RIP Prince!

Great artist, I liked his music. I also think he was a very fine guitarist, underrated.

RIP Prince.

I saw him and he put on a great show. Probably in my top 3.

He was the greatest musical talent of ALL-TIME. Not just a generation, but the most talented and innovative artist we have ever seen.

Strongly disagree on this statement, but he was a very talented guitar player and a helluva entertainer.

Was he already in poor health, because at 57, you usually have to have some other health issues to die as a result of flu complications?

I got into a lot of trouble once while wearing my headphones and doing a perfect karaoke rendition of "Darling Nikki". I was 12 and my Mom walked into the basement without me knowing it and didn't find it appropriate!

She had bought the cassette for me, for my birthday........ needless to say, I had to find another copy.

There is a rumor that he had AIDS. But who knows. Internet rumors are often just internet rumors.

The flu kills 1000's each year in this country. If you don't have a solid immune system, it can easily take you down...

Prince had his plane do an emergency landing last week while in route to a concert and then cancelled the show. That was not a good sign.

Mad thrasher on the guitar. Such an talented musician...dude will be missed. RIP

Usually those that it kills are seniors or kids, which does make me wonder what was going on with him. At any rate, it's too bad. Gone too soon.

Read online that he was a pretty good ball player, if a diminutive one, so the Charlie Murphy story wasn't BS. Essentially a musical savant. The signs to get things checked out are always seen in hindsight, but by then it's too late.
RIP, Royal Purpleness

Was the greatest living guitar player..this news was a punch in the gut..bummed I never got to see him in concert
i thought the same thing, i never saw him play either. but it reminded of a story a friend of mine told me when he was stationed in the army at ft carson, co right after purple rain came out.

he went with a buddy from denver to a nightclub in denver. while they were sitting there having a great time - i guess the music was incredible to begin with - a crowd of people came in off the street and the all of sudden there was prince on stage - played a hot set and then left. he was blown away. i guess as they say today it was 'lit'.

I was born in '88 and growing up I swear my mom's car came with a Purple Rain cassette. That album and Fleetwood Mac Rumors was basically all I got to listen to until I got my own car haha! I called her today and she was physically upset about it. Sad Day indeed

Thanks for the clip (above). Sadly, we'll probably see a similar tribute now to Prince - with lots of his former girl friends. What a talent - and what a man good at discovering talent.

OT - I had no idea how much George Harrison's son looked like his father!

Don't know if true or not, but Clapton was supposedly asked "How does it feel to be the greatest living guitar player?"
And Clapton said "I don't know. Go ask Prince"

That is actually urban legend....exact question was supposedly asked of Hendrix, Clapton,, Eddie Van Halen and they all supposedly gave the exact answer of, "I don't know go ask Phil Keaggy or Prince or fill in the blank (different names)"

Prince was very talented, however, and extremely versatile.

Feels like somebody stole something from me.

This is truly a terrible day. We should have another 20 years of greatness out of this man. HitNRun 1 & 2 were nice additions to his catalog, but shouldn't be the end.

I'm gonna be real selfish here and hope someone who will release the music has the rights to his vault material. Roadhouse Garden and the rest of the tremendous amounts of unreleased songs/albums must be freed. We have been robbed of greatness and it sucks.
