First of all I have never heard of the concept of splitting the gate. I would just naturally assume that the home team gets to keep the gate receipts, including concession stands. But as someone says, it all balances out since games are scheduled in two-year cycles.
Which leads me to my next topic......XCross you KNOW the AD does not make the schedule!!! You are just trying to stir up things. Every time a new two-year cycle comes around, everybody, not just one school, has to have a new schedule. And in the case of this upcoming year, that will be even more involved because of Lee High coming into the Shenandoah.
So the new schedule was made up by the district, not by each individual AD. Goodness knows it would be chaos if each school tried to make up its own schedule. They would all be trying to get 7 home games and three close road games!
I have not seen Riverheads' schedule but I do know that we have to play at Stuarts Draft again and that it is early in the season, not toward the end as it was this year. That part is indeed a shame, but again that was not the choice of either AD but rather the overall input from the district so that the complete schedule could balance out.
If you are correct and we do have to travel to the other two as well, then at least they are short trips. But remember, the next year those schools will all have to come to us. Also if we have to travel like that, then maybe we get East Rock at home again for example.
Trust me, it DOES all balance out and nobody is intentionally getting you all fired up six months before the season even starts! You were just getting antsy.
The way the Central District works it, (and has, as far back as I am aware), is to spit the gate AFTER expenses. Which means the cost for paid staff for security, parking, ticket sellers, game officials, etc. The concessions and anything else similar, are not part of this deal. The home team sends a check for 1/2 of the net proceeds to the visiting team after expenses. It seems to work out ok here in the CD.
Of course, our AD answers to the Principle, but responsibility for the scheduling is part of the AD's duty. Certainly he works with his coaching staffs, but the District contest are really not a negotiable deal. The District leaders work out the district schedules and the AD, again with consultation with his coaches, schedules the non district games.
It would be maddening if you had to re-invent the wheel each year, but there is a history to work from. So it's not like you start from scratch. I'm sure it's tough when you have a new school added to your district.
With only 10 contest to deal with, and a consistent past schedule to start from, football is not the biggest challenge for setting a schedule. But, that is somewhat offset by the fact that it becomes very difficult to schedule makeup games. At least in basketball, baseball/softball, and a couple others you can shoehorn makeup games in during the week. Just "not playing" a football game is taboo. Plus, shared or kept, no school wants to lose a football gate.
