Q, you know he couldn’t take the ball out of Grayson’s hands to take the last shot. That would have required him to play defense.
He wasn’t spoiled enough, I know!

98-99.Can anyone name the last time Duke went to back-to-back Elite 8’s?
The play I remember from Gary was that ridiculous 30 footer he made at the end of the shot clock. Kansas had just made a run to swing the game in their favor, and believe that shot led to like an 8-0 Duke run.I didn’t have a problem with Grayson taking that last shot. Hindsight is always 20/20.
But I would agree with the Bagley-didn’t-get-enough-shots crowd, too. That said, Kansas made some choices in that game. One was not letting Wendell and Marvin beat them. It allowed for more open looks for Gary and Grayson. It paid off, because both struggled from deep.
It should be pointed out that besides the three, Gary was very good that game. He hit some huge mid-range shots in the second half.
Has it really been 20 years? Wow I feel better now.
I think 98 and 99
I sometimes forget about the 98 team. Hate admitting it, but the Holes that season were better than we were.Ahh, yes....I’ve eliminated both of those end-of-season losses from my memory card.
I agree with most of what you’re saying and that Carey and Hurt will find themselves at the 4-5 at times together. However i think that’s really asking for it on the defensive end. We can’t rely on that for the better part of most games, so to your point 20-25 out of Ques would be huge for this team. Javin is a different animal but can be similar to this year where they both split the time at the 5. I don’t see the lane being as congested as this year bc we should have solid shooters (including hurt) all around the perimeter. Carey can even step out and knock few down.I agree. However I'm not sure how that works on offense.
I think it's fairly obvious K is at his best when our offense has a stretch-4. The past 2 seasons, we didn't have that, and though our offense was still great based on sheer talent, it always looked jumbled and we didn't run great stuff.
Hurt is EXACTLY the 4-man that K works best with IMO. Carey is gonna start, meaning he would play the 5. I want Bolden back too, and hope he's back and can play 20-25 mpg.
If we don't get Hurt, than I'd go Carey-Bolden.

Thank you Rick Majerus. Talk about teams that SHOULD have won it all, that 1998 unc team was stacked.I sometimes forget about the 98 team. Hate admitting it, but the Holes that season were better than we were.
Definitely some interesting talking points here Mac. I’m surprised nobody has responded yet. Most, not all, of the criticism about players over the last few seasons, are down the line of one side defending the one and done players, but ripping the multi year kid. You won’t find anyone that has been against the one and done kid rip this past team. The answer why is easy. It’s because the effort resembled the teams of the past.
But those that seem more interested in what their pro careers will be, or are, conveniently look away when some of the one and dones get criticized. I’ll admit, some is unwarranted, but not all.
O’Connell is very bad on defense, and he gets mentioned all the time. But I’ve yet to hear anyone ask others to stop saying what everyone knows. Heck, Grayson even to this day, gets called out about his weak defense. But don’t criticize Mr Marvin, or Tatum, or Rivers....
They are representing, so let’s move along.

That’s a lie. After the Gonzaga loss, RJ was ripped to shreds on social media which prompted Coach K had to come out and scold “those” fans. Oh and Cam Reddish! Should I continue? But hey, AOC will be back, so we good!
You just don’t get it Q. You’re getting into specific moments. I was speaking in general terms. You’re basing your hot takes off social media and this site. Believe me, had social media been in the 90’s like it is now, Laettner and many others would have been ripped at times too. That’s a lie. Most confusing thread I’ve read in a while.. be happy all these top recruits want to play at Duke. You want AOC throwing the ball to the other team Bc he doesn’t know what to do with it? And Jack going 0-48382627 straight from 3? Orrrr top recruits who can actually play defense and get buckets at will?
And calling Bagley a problem? Ha! He was only a problem for the other team. I’ll be honest, I think he was more of a bucket getter than Zion. That dude was incredible.
Bring on Rj and Hurt. And bring on next season.
Remember in 18 against Kansas the Elite 8 game. I still blame coach K for letting Grayson Allen go 1-on-1 and take the last shot. That 2nd half kansas had no answer for pick and roll and Bagley going to the rim. K should have called a timeout. Allen at the top of the key with Bagley setting a hard screen and roll and Carter on the baseline ready for a lob from Bagley if he couldn't get to the rim. The last minute of that game still makes me mad.
You are exactly right. Duval played great that game dude was super quick and was a good passer but for some reason K let Allen and Trent continue to take 3's
Bagley was 5-9 had 16 points meanwhile Allen was 3-13 with 12 points and Trent was 7-18 and 2-10 from 3. Someone EXPLAIN why Bagley didn't get the ball more and why Trent had the green light to keep shooting.
I don't mind Grayson taking the last shot. What still makes me mad is holding the ball at the top until 5 seconds left then attacking. We ran nothing, and we got off a VERY low % shot (a much worse look than the UCF/VT misses against us this year.)
And yeah, down the stretch, the high screen n roll with Duval and Bagley/Carter was unstoppable. There was a 3 possession stretch where we got 3 straight dunks. Duval was our best player that game, I wanted him to have the ball with Bagley/Carter coming to set the screen. Then our 2 shooters spotting up.
Yea it’s weird. I thought he eliminated Duke, but he has an official this weekend and Duke is picking up some CB picks. Very weird. I know absolutely nothing about Stanley either.I think Duke's attention has shifted to C. Stanley.![]()

Your mind is prolly gonna be blown, but I have never watched an episode of the office. LolThe Office
The crap I just responded to above is why there’s people on this board and media articles stabbing at K. People have no idea what they’re talking about. They just rattle off a bunch of junk.

Duval was the one making the plays that game. He should’ve had the ball at the end. Not Grayson. He put up a good difficult shot that should’ve gone in but we should’ve spread the floor and let Duval penetrate and dish. That was his best attribute. Attacking. Majority of the time he attacked to pass the ball. Spread the floor and let him attack. He would get it on the rim at best and their big would go for the block which leaves a weak side offensive rebound for our two beasts in the middle. Grayson couldn’t even get past whoever was checking him. I try to blank that out.

You take that back NOW!! Jim Carrey is brilliant!!!Steve Carrell is hilarious lol you’re missing out.... and i don’t like funny actors. I don’t think anyone hates Jim Carrey as much as I do.

Was hoping Rj would stay in the 2020 class but it’s not looking that way, looks like he trending towards Memphis .
