Robbinsville Vs Smoky

I read or heard we dropped NG for Smoky. If so that strengthens our SOS. I like that but also think we need a easy game early to build up confidence. Just not NG easy. Lol. I wouldn't mind keeping Enka for that reason. hope we drop Hickory Hawks. They ain't bad but it's a long drive. I would like to replace CS with a strong public school. Maybe Asheville or Ewrin. Rabun Gap should remain I think. They help us see some speed and size and we been playing them almost 10 years.

I wish Smoky would man up and put Murphy back on the schedule. Murphy's non conference schedule should have Franklin and Smoky on it every year.

I do know that Swain is looking for a replacement for North Henderson for next season. Hope we don’t play the Carolina Gladiators again....

I would also like for Swain to have a Friday night lights game on my 40.

My idea non conference schedule for Murphy:

Asheville (need to play someone with speed)
Smoky Mtn
Franklin
Union County GA
Towns County GA (need an easier game but still a good gate)

Hayesville has Towns on the schedule but they had 18 seniors this year and are not sure if they will field a team next year.

Towns Co HS has around 335 kids. About 13 seniors and 12 juniors. 33 kids on team. Thats more than Robbinsville had before the jvs moved up.

Towns has 337 students--roughly the size of Rosman. Shouldn't be close to small enough to have to worry about not having a team.

And if Towns doesn't field a team, where are Hayesville kids going to transfer when they get in a bad mood?

I'm sure Towns will field a team. Next year's sophomore class was pretty good in youth league and was fairly deep. They will probably be improved two years from now.

Towns is in an unfortunate situation as it pertains to high school athletics. Towns is surrounded by schools that are all larger or much larger than them, so they get placed in regions where they're stuck with a bunch of private schools and/or schools much further away. Towns closest conference game is Commerce, most are privates around Atlanta and Athens.

Towns fits much better with their neighboring SMC schools, demographically and culturally. They should get some kind of an exemption from the GHSA to play in the NCHSAA. Not quite the same deal but Rabun Gap plays in the NCISAA, so it's not totally unprecedented.

They have Tallulah Falls nearby in basketball, but a boarding school that doesn't play football is hard to develop a rivalry with.

Towns is in the SMC for middle school hoops, but not sure how such an out of state NCHSAA waiver would work.

Towns would get a lot more out of being in the NCHSAA than they're getting in the GHSA. Their school and athletic department would save a lot more money with the decreased travel and better gates, their ability to actually compete would increase as well. It would make scheduling easier for the current SMC schools too, especially in football.

But yeah, not sure how a waiver/exemption would work or if it's even possible.

Towns didn’t have a youth league this year and they play 9-12 grades on varsity With only 18 perspective returners (which all may not come back) it is looking like slim pickings at towns! They have had there best run of athletes come through in a long time the past 3 years. But the future is uncertain!!!!

Post your ideal non conference picks.

Also post what you think your non con. Will be.
I already posted what I wanted it to be. Here's what it could be next year based on what I've heard. IF it were to end up like this it will be Murphy's toughest non conference schedule on paper in a good while.

Pisgah (confirmed)
Franklin (confirmed)
Georgia Force Christian (confirmed)
Bandys (possibility)
South Pittsburg TN (possibility)

Georgia Force Christian is not a bad team at all, look into them. Bandys is coming off of a really good year. South Pittsburg is a 1A power in the state of Tennessee, Murphy might not see a better team all year if they play South Pittsburg. Pisgah and Franklin speak for themselves.

To Murphy like the brothers that played baseball.

I know its not really feasible but I would like to see someone from the Smc play a team from out east in the regular season. Just for the newness of it. Would be pretty exciting.
